기능취약 노인에 대한 가족부양자의 부양행동과 부양스트레스 및 만족감

Abstract

This study attempts to explain the relationship between the functional impairment of the elderly, the caregiving service, the caregiving stress, and the caregiving satisfaction among the family caregiver who care for the functionally impaired elderly. This study classifies the types of caregiving services in terms of positive aspect and negative aspect. While the previous research has focused on the caregiving stress, this study also examined the caregiving satisfaction in addition to caregiving stress. The study mainly focuses on the assumption that the family caregiving service not only affects the caregiving stress and the satisfaction but also be affected by the caregiving stress and satisfaction. This study is based on a sample of the data which were collected for the project titled with 'Caregiving Index' of Choi et al(1999). The subject of the study included 251 caregivers. The major findings are: First, the functional impairment of the elderly significantly increases the caregiving stress. But it is not related to the caregiving satisfaction. Second, the functional impairment of the elderly is positively related to the functional caregiving service and the emotional service. But it is not related th the negative caregiving service. Third, the caregiving stress and the caregiving satisfaction significantly affect the caregiving services. Functional service is positively related to both caregiving stress and caregiving satisfaction. But emotional service is negatively related to the caregiving stress and positively related to the caregiving satisfaction. Negative service is positively related to the caregiving stress and negatively related to the caregiving satisfaction. These results demonstrate that the family caregiving services which were offered to the impaired elderly are not only the coping action to the impairment of the elderly but also more deeply complx outcome of the caregiver's situation. And also suggest the necessities of social policy and practical support for the family caregivers for the elderly.;본 연구는 기능취약노인의 주 부양자를 대상으로 노인의 기능취약정도와 부양자가 노인에게 제공하는 부양행동, 그리고 노인을 부양하면서 겪는 스트레스 및 만족감간의 관계를 규명하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 부양자가 노인에게 행하는 부양행동을 긍정적 행동과 부정적 행동으로 구분하였으며, 기존의 연구가 부양스트레스에만 초점을 맞춘데 반해 부양을 통해 얻을 수 있는 부양만족감까지를 살펴보았다. 특히, 선행연구들을 통해서 부양행동이 부양스트레스나 만족에 영향을 미치기도 하지만 부양스트레스나 만족이 다시 부양자의 부양행동을 좌우할 수 있다는 점에 관심을 두고 연구를 진행하였다. 본 연구의 자료는 최혜경 등(1998)의 '노인부양지표 개발'을 위한 연구의 2차년도 자료 중 기능취약 노인의 부양자를 대상으로 한 자료를 이용하였다. 자료 검증을 위해 SPSS 9.0 프로그램을 이용하여 빈도, 백분율, 평균을 비롯하여 상관관계, 요인분석, t검증, 회귀분석 등의 분석방법을 사용하였다. 본 연구의 주요 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 노인의 기능취약정도는 부양자의 스트레스를 증가시키는 반면, 부양만족감에는 영향을 미치지 않는다. 둘째, 노인의 기능취약 정도가 심할수록 부양자는 도구적 부양과 정서적 부양을 더 많이 제공하며, 부정적 부양행동에는 영향을 미치지 않는다. 셋째, 기능취약 노인을 부양하면서 부양자가 겪게 되는 부양스트레스와 부양만족감은 부양자의 도구적 부양행동, 정서적 부양행동, 부정적 부양행동 모두에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 부양자들은 부양스트레스가 많든 부양만족감이 높든 도구적 부양행동을 많이 보였다. 반면, 정서적 부양행동에 대해서는 부양스트레스가 많으면 적게 제공하고 부양만족도가 높으면 많이 제공하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 부양스트레스가 높을수록 그리고 부양만족감은 낮을수록 부정적 부양행동을 많이 제공하는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과들을 종합하여 볼 때 기능취약 노인에게 제공되는 가족부양행동은 단지 노인의 기능취약에 대한 대응행동일 뿐 아니라 부양자가 노인 부양상황에서 받고 있는 부양스트레스와 부양만족감의 복합적인 영향을 받는 다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한 부양행동의 긍정적 상호작용을 위해 노인 정책의 중심에 노인뿐 아니라 가족 부양자에 대한 고려가 있어야 함을 알 수 있다.
