Fe(Ⅲ)-hydroperoxo 복합체의 경우에는 Fe(Ⅳ)-oxo 복합체는 보다 조금 더 높은 반응성을 가지는 것을 확인 하였다.;Iron-oxygen species, iron(III)-peroxo, iron(III)-hydroperoxo, and iron(IV)-oxo, are key intermediates often detected in the catalytic cycles of dioxygen activation by heme and nonheme iron enzymes. Here, we report the first high-resolution crystal structure of a mononuclear nonheme side-on iron(III)-peroxo complex, [Fe(III)(TMC)(OO)]+ (TMC = 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane). Upon protonation, the high-spin iron(III)-peroxo complex is converted to a high-spin iron(III)-hydroperoxo complex, [Fe(III)(TMC)(OOH)]2+, via a short-lived intermediate, which then generates a low-spin iron(IV)-oxo complex, [Fe(IV)(TMC)(O)]2+, via homolytic O-O bond cleavage of the iron(III)-hydroperoxo species. Each of these three species has been spectroscopically characterized. Relative reactivity studies performed with the iron(III)-peroxo, iron(III)-hydroperoxo, and iron(IV)-oxo species reveal that the iron(III)-hydroperoxo complex is the most reactive of the three in the deformylation of aldehydes and that it has a similar reactivity to the iron(IV)-oxo complex in C-H bond activation of alkylaromatics. These reactivity results demonstrate that iron(III)-hydroperoxo species are viable oxidants in both nucleophilic and electrophilic reactions by iron-containing enzymes. In conclusion, using a simple but versatile macrocyclic ligand, we have succeeded in generating the three most important, biologically relevant iron-oxygen intermediates, and we report here their structural and spectroscopic properties and their relative reactivities toward organic substrates.-
