자연과의 교감을 통한 환상공간표현

Abstract

현재 우리가 살고 있는 시대는 환상 이미지들이 흘러넘치는 시대이다. 오늘날 현대인이 겪는 현실의 각박함과 반복되는 일상 속에서 환상은 매우 매혹적인 존재이며, 현실의 경계를 넘어 허구의 공간으로 우리를 향해 손짓하곤 한다. 여기서 환상은 일반적으로 비현실적이고 비생산적인 사고활동으로 인식되기 쉽다. 하지만 우리의 무의식을 고양시킴으로써 억압받는 삶에 대해 질문을 하기도 하고, 억압을 넘어선 따뜻한 감정과 소망을 고조시키는 것 또한 환상이다. 급변하는 사회 속에서 환상의 중요성과 그 의미를 연구함으로써 긍정적 에너지로 작용되는 환상에 대해 알아보았다. 마르크 샤갈은 신비로운 색을 이용하여 환상적인 분위기를 연출하고, 롭 곤살베스는 꿈과 현실의 공존을 통해 환상의 공간을 그려낸다. 또한 마이클 파크스는 신화적 소재를 중심으로 신화가 빚어내는 아우라를 이미지화 한다. 이들은 모두 환상이라는 독창적인 상상력을 바탕으로 작품 활동을 한 작가로, 본 논문에서는 이들의 작품을 분석해 봄으로써, 환상이라는 추상적인 개념을 어떤 방식으로 형상화하고 작품화시켰는지에 대해 알아보았다. 또한 본인의 작품에서 큰 비중을 차지하고 있는 조형적 언어인 '색'에 대한 고찰을 통해 색의 중요성과 작용적인 면을 살펴보았는데, 그 중에서도 색의 상징과 심리적 영향에 대한 연구는 본인의 작품을 이해하는 데 한층 더 도움을 주었다. 본인의 작업은 크게는 자연을 세부적으로는 특정한 동물 혹은 인물을 통해 이루어지는 교감을 그것과 조화된 환상으로서의 공간으로 시각화함으로써, 현실과 환상이 공존하는 상상 속 환상 공간을 이야기한다. 이 공간은 단순한 공상이 아닌 오히려 일상적이고 낯익은 것들의 관계 속에서 조화를 이루고 있으며, 개개인의 사유적 공간으로 존재하게 된다. 우리는 이러한 시간과 공간을 가짐으로써 본인마저 숨기고 살아가고 있는 자신의 깊은 속마음을 알 수 있으며 그것을 표현하는 과정에서 스스로 마음을 다독이고 어루만지는 치유의 시간을 가지게 된다. 본인이 생각하는 환상은 거창한 어떤 것이 아닌 이렇게 사물과의 교감을 통한 치유적인 성격을 가지고 있는 소박한 꿈과 같은 존재이다. 이러한 소중한 존재들과의 교감을 통해 경험할 수 있는 심상은 자유로운 색과 선, 문양을 통해 표현되며 그것은 자연과의 교감을 통한 자연적 형태로 나타나기도 하고 반복되는 선과 단순하게 패턴화 된 꽃문양의 반복으로 표현되어 지기도 한다. 또한 그들과 소통하며 느낄 수 있는 그 당시의 감정에 충실한 색의 사용과 자연만이 가질 수 있는 고유한 아름다운 색의 중첩적인 표현을 통해 무수한 흔적들을 남김으로써, 교감을 통한 감성이 일시적인 것이 아닌 지속성을 가지고 오랜 시간 이루어졌음을 표현하였다. 본 논문을 통해 일상 속에서 이루어 질 수 있는 교감을 통한 상상과 사유의 중요성을 이야기하였고, 그로 인해 사람들이 ‘환상’이라는 단어를 떠올림에 있어, 그것은 곧 사라지고 마는 덧없음의 환각적 존재가 아닌, 힘든 현실을 극복하는 원동력으로 작용하길 바라는 마음으로 논문을 연구하였다.;The present age in which we live is witnessing a flood of fantasy images. In the harsh reality of contemporaries and their repetitive daily lives, fantasy is so attractive a being that often signs us to enter the fictional space beyond the boundary of reality. Here, it is likely that fantasy is generally assumed as an unrealistic and unproductive activity of thinking. However, what interrogates the repressed lives by inspiring our unconsciousness, as well as elating warm emotions and wishes beyond repression, is also the role of fantasy. I looked into such fantasy that exerts positive energy in effect by investigating its importance and meaning in the rapidly changing society. Marc Chagall produces fantastic atmosphere with mystic colors, and Rob Gonsalves draws the space of fantasy with coexistence between dream and reality. Also, Michael Parks is based on mythical subject matters to make images with the aura shaped by mythology. All of these are the artists who based their works on original imagination of fantasy, and this study analyzed their works so as to identify how they embodied the abstract concept of fantasy and realized it into works. Besides, the study investigated the importance and working of ‘color’ which was a formative language accounting for the large part of my work; particularly, exploration about the symbolic and psychological effects of colors helped more to understand my work. My work visualizes a space of fantasy harmonized with both nature in a broad sense and the communication through a specific animal or person in particular, thus narrating a fantasy space of imagination in which reality and fantasy coexist. This space is not a mere idle fancy, but rather harmonized in relation to everyday and familiar things as a space for individual thinking. We can see in this time-and-space our innermost feelings hidden by ourselves, and have the healing time to caress and appease our minds in the process of expressing them. The fantasy in my idea is not something in a big way, but a being like a simple dream which functions as a therapy through communication with things. The mental images experienced by this communication with valuable beings are rendered with free colors, lines, and patterns, sometimes taking natural forms through communication with nature and other times reiterating lines and simple flower patterns. Also, leaving a number of traces with the colors true to my feelings at the time of communicating with them and the superposed expression of beautiful colors which can be found only in nature, I indicated the communicative sensation was not temporary but had continued for long time. This study discussed the significance of imagination and thinking through communication that can occur in daily lives. Working this study, I hoped that the word ‘fantasy’ should come across the mind of people not as an ephemeral illusion that would disappear soon, but as a dynamic power to overcome the stifling reality.
