Abstract

On the brink of a new century, it is not too much to say that modern art has lost its way. Post-modernism based on th criticism of racism, chauvinism and westemization appeared in the end of the 1970's. It meant an end to the era of verticality and a start of a new era of holizontallity with infinite diversity. Newly rising issues are in such an inestimatable status where scattered subjects in the shade such as concern for others, multiplicity, body, environment and globalization have jutted out. Art confronts with a chaos which shakes last 20th century in whole. The shape of art to appear is unpredictable. Nevertheless, "birth of the new" has always been there with the chaos and the art has created its own territory. There will be no end to the world of chaos and the expansion of art like a decimal point and the maximum point of an infinity. The world expanding like a galaxy induce us to be nomads in the way of thinking. At the same time, asks us to find self-center. Although an essential task for artists regardless of an age, it is thought that such is especially required now. Such a search for self-center will only be possible through dichotomy thoughts and abandonment of external prejudice. Art denies to be classified as one real anymore. The appearance of conceptual art has connected life and are to an inseparable relation. Each is not separated but intimately connected. Therefore, it become essential to think in the dimension of matrix. A part becomes a whole and a whole becomes a part. Art up-to-date was divided into Western and non-Western art circles. Modern people who ran into a blind alley like for alternatives in the stagnation of Asia. However, modern Asia is becoming completely westernized. The philosophy of Asia before westernization precedes intuitionally as much as modern science. It can be seen that ancient philosophy of East Asia provides a clue to today's artists about new art world. At present days, the most important thing is the spiritual world irrelevant of regions ar races. The artist must be able to see what is the thoughts of oneself and how to depict it through the artist's innerself. Art has two aspects, reconciliation with reality and worlds of spirit beyond the reality simultaneously. The will to unify inner spiritual world and the outer real world perhaps is the hope in the heart of every artists. The work of unifying the body and soul, and the material and spirit is what we call art. In this thesis, I focused the contents on the process to the unity of material and spirit from artist's viewpoint, which is set as the background of my painting. By employing the theories of the physics, I intended to prove that my thought is quite close to the today's physics. I regard the ultimate goal of art as the growth of mind. The inner space of human and the outer space are the unknown world.Creation has been accomplishing that world. There is the space in my inside ....It is koans of my painting.;새로운 세기로 접어드는 지금 현대미술은 길을 잃었다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 1970년대 말기부터 등장한 포스트모더니즘은 서구 중심적이고 백인 우월적이며 남성위주의 사고를 비판하는 의식을 기반으로 한다. 수직적 시대가 무너지고 다양성이 무한한 수평의 시대로 들어서게 된 것이다. 새로이 대두되는 이슈들은 타자에 대한 관심, 복수성, 신체, 환경, 전 지구화 경향등 산재해 있던 음지 속의 주제들이 돌출하여 미술은 지난 20세기를 송두리째 흔드는 혼돈 앞에 놓여 있다고 할 수 있다. 앞으로 등장할 미술의 형상은 아직 예측불허이다. 그러나 새로움의 탄생은 늘 혼돈 속에서 있어왔고, 예술은 거기에서 영토를 만들어 왔다. 혼돈의 세계와 재현하고자하는 예술의 영토확장은 무한대의 소수점과 무한대의 극대점과 같이 끝이 없을 것이다. 팽창해 나가는 은하계와 같이 확대되어진 세계는 사고에 있어 유목민이 되기를 권유하고 있으며 동시에 자신의 중심을 찾는 것이 요구되고 있다. 이것은 시대와 상관없이 예술가에게는 필수의 과제이겠지만 지금이 그 어느 때 보다도 절실하다고 판단된다. 이러한 중심찾기는 이분법의 사고와 외향적 선입견을 버릴 때 가능할 것이다. 미술은 더 이상 한 영역으로 구분되기를 거부하고 있다. 특히 개념마술의 등장은 삶과 예술의 관계를 불가분으로 연결시켜 주었다. 서로가 나뉘어 진 것이 아니라 긴밀하게 연관지워져 있다고 할 수 있다. 전체는 부분을 포함하고 부분은 전체로 향하는 불가분의 관계를 지칭하는 matrix 공간으로의 사고가 필수로 된 것이다. 이때까지의 미술은 서구 미술권과 비서구 미술권으로 나뉘어져 왔다. 서구중심의 변화를 위한 변화의 추구는 미술의 본질을 막다른 골목에 이르게 하였고 그 의미를 상실하게 하였다. 현대인들은 그 대안을 아시아적 가치에서 찾고 있다. 완전히 서구화된 현대의 아시아적 가치보다는 서구화되기 이전의 동아시아의 고대사상은 현대의 과학만큼이나 직관적으로 앞서 있으며 오늘날의 미술계에 새로운 실마리를 제공한다고 본다. 이제는 인종이나 지역에 상관없이 각자가 소유한 정신세계가 중요하다. 작가는 개개인이 가진 내면을 보아 무엇을 사고하는지 그리고 어떻게 표현해야 하는지를 꿰뚫어 보아야 한다. 예술은 현실을 넘어서는 정신으로 향하는 한편 현실과 합일되는 지점을 동시에 가지고 있다. 자신의 내면의 세계와 외부의 현실을 통합하고자 하는 의지는 아마도 대부분의 예술가들의 마음속에 간직되어 있는 희망일 것이다. 육체와 영혼, 물질과 정신의 합일을 향하는 작업이 예술이라고 생각한다. 본 논문은 예술가의 시각에서 물질과 정신의 합일점을 찾아가는 과정을 주된 내용으로 하였고 이를 본인의 작품을 제작하는 배경으로 설정하였다. 물리학의 이론을 빌어서 본인의 작품과 연관지어 작가가 소유한 내적 세계가 현대 과학의 내용과 거리가 멀지 않음을 증명하고자 하였다. 예술을 통한 궁극적 목적은 정신성의 성장에 있다고 본다. 광활한 우주와 인간 내면의 세계는 끝을 알 수 없는 미지의 세계이다. 창조는 그 세계를 정복해 가면서 이루어진다. 내 안에 우주가 있다..........이것이 나의 작품을 풀어 나가는 화두이다.
