무용창작작품 「표상」에 관한 연구

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine a creative dance work 「representation」 that dealt with a theme of double-sidedness, one of modern people's psychological characteristics. This researcher had a doubt why there are two sides to man and why that is unavoidable for him, and it's meant in this study to stress the necessity of making an ideal choice in the unavoidable situation and to urge an audience to ask themselves a question. The creative dance work 「representation」 consists of three scenes. Scene 1 depicts a space of society, where the dancer is aware that there are social self and inner self in herself. This scene describes that she is externally dominated by her social self but actually is questioning about which was her real nature. Scene 2 portrays her inner, original nature, putting aside her external social nature. Scene 3 deals with how she is in conflict with her two different sorts of nature. The two kinds of nature were expressed through the dancer's display of emotion, particular motion and symbolic costume. To be specific, red traditional Korean socks are sometimes visible and sometimes invisible as the dancer moves her skirt in a particular way. Thus, the fact that there are two sides of herself is vividly described by the costume. In Scene 2 taking off the skirt denoted the turnover of the scenes. In scene 3, the front of stage left wing and the back of stage rigth wing were just used to represent a social space and an inner space respectively. In a word, people witness their own conflicts between ‘social self' and ‘practical inner self' when they are in extreme existential circumstances, and they definitely feel their self is splitted. That's why there are both positive attributes and negative attributes in them, which they respectively define as truth and untruth, and they are bound to live a life in this unavoidable situation. This study is of significance in that it's attempt to deal with a question how to cope with such two-sided human characteristics to lead a good life amid social relationships.;본 연구는 현대인의 심리적 특성 중 인간의 이중심리인 양면성을 주제로 하여 창작한 작품 「표상」에 대한 연구이다. 본 연구자는 왜 양면성이 존재하며, 양면성이 인간에게 필연적일 수밖에 없는지에 대한 의문을 가지고, 양면성이라는 피할 수 없는 현실 속에서 바람직한 선택의 필요성을 작품을 통해 제시하며 관객 스스로에게 질문을 던지게 하는 데 목적이 있다. 무용창작작품「표상」은 총 세 개의 장으로 구성되었다. 1장은 사회라는 공간으로, 자신에게 사회적 자아와 내면적 자아가 존재한다는 것을 인식한다. 그리고 사회적 모습으로 살아가지만 어떤 모습이 진정 자신의 모습인지에 대한 갈등을 표현하였다. 2장은 사회적으로 비추어지는 모습을 뒤로하고 내면에 존재하는 본연의 모습을 표현하였고, 3장에서는 앞서 제시된 두 가지의 모습에 대한 갈등을 통해 어떤 모습을 선택해야 하는 가에 대한 의문을 갖게 되는 과정을 다루었다. 이 작품은 대비되는 두 가지 모습의 표현을 무용수의 감정 표현과 움직임의 특질, 의상의 상징성을 통해 나타냈으며, 이것을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 1장은 무용수의 움직임에 따라 하얀 치마 안에 빨간 버선이 보이기도 하고, 감춰지기도 함으로써 현실 속 자신에게 양면성이 존재한다는 것을 의상을 통해 효과적으로 나타내었다. 2장은 내면적 자아의 모습으로 장면을 구성하였고, 하얀색 치마를 벗음으로서 장면의 전환을 의미하게 된다. 3장에서는 두 가지의 모습에 대한 상징으로서 무대의 하수 앞과 상수 뒤의 지점에 사회적 공간과 내면적 공간의 의미를 부여하였고, 갈등과 선택에 대한 표현과 해석을 무용수를 통하여 관객 스스로 생각하도록 의도하였다. 결과적으로 인간은 실존적 상황에서 ‘사회적인 자아’와 ‘실제적인 내면적 자아’간의 충돌을 봄으로써 분열된 자아를 인식하게 된다. 그렇기 때문에 인간은 스스로 진실이라고 정해 놓은 긍정적인 속성과 그릇된 것으로 정해진 부정적인 속성을 동시에 지니고 살아가는 존재인 것이다. 이에 본 연구는 이러한 양면적 특성에 어떻게 대처할 것인가 하는 문제의 제기와 해결을 작품 「표상」을 통하여 인지하고, 사회적 관계 속에서 인간의 심리적 양면성의 바람직한 방향을 모색하고자 하는데 의의가 있다.
