무용창작작품 「모든, 가질 수 없는 것들」에 관한 연구

Abstract

예술은 소통을 통해서 완성되어지는 인간의 행위로 모든 예술은 소통을 전제로 한다. 20세기 후반 포스트모더니즘 시대 이후 모든 예술은 예술가가 고정시킨 의미만을 찾는 행위가 아닌 수용자의 능동적인 의미화 과정을 필요로 하게 된다. 이는 예술의 범주에 속하는 모든 분야에 적용되는 것으로 예술 작품은 고정된 의미만을 산출하는 것이 아니라 시공간을 뛰어넘어 언제나 새롭게 이해되어지고 다양한 해석을 가능하게 한다. 제 2차 세계대전 이후 현대인의 복잡하고 혼란한 문화 현상을 반영하여 그 모습을 드러낸 포스트모더니즘은 20세기 말을 대변하는 사조이면서, 작게는 모더니즘에 대한 반동으로 미국에서 시작된 문학, 예술운동을 의미하기도 한다. 포스트모더니즘 사조 아래 20세기 후반 미국의 문학은 임의성, 대중성을 중시하며 다양한 작품들을 탄생시키고, 독자들에게 다양한 해석의 여지를 남기며 능동적으로 수용할 수 있게 한다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 20세기 후반 미국의 문학작품 트레이시 슈발리에의 『진주 귀고리 소녀』를 바탕으로 당시 미국문학의 시대적 배경에 대해 살펴보고, 작가와 텍스트의 내용을 살펴보아 소설 속 여성 주인공의 심리를 중심으로 욕망과 억압이란 주제내용을 이끌어내었다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 무용창작작품 「모든, 가질 수 없는 것들」을 안무하고, 작품에 나타난 욕망과 억압의 심리가 지니는 측면을 살펴봄으로써 현대인들의 의식 전환의 당위성을 찾는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이에 무용창작작품 「모든, 가질 수 없는 것들」을 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 무용창작작품 「모든, 가질 수 없는 것들」은 트레이시 슈발리에의 『진주 귀고리 소녀』속 여주인공 그리트의 심리 변화에 초점을 맞추어, 장면에 따라 그녀의 심리를 함축한 문장을 발췌하여 주제를 정한다음, 이에 따라 총 3장의 작품을 구성하였다. 1장은 그리트가 화가의 세계에 들어가는 도입부분으로 욕망이 시작이고, 2장은 욕망이 표출되는 모습을 연출하였으며 마지막 3장은 욕망이 좌절되면서, 좌절된 감정을 억압하지만 해소되지 않은 욕망이 가슴속에 잠재되어있음을 표현하고자 하였다. 둘째, 작품의 공간구성과 움직임은 장면별 주제에 따라 다양하게 이루어진다. 먼저 1장 도입부분에서는 무대 전방에서 후방으로 상수에만 집중된 직선의 이동경로를 사용하고 느린 템포로 정적인 이동경로를 그렸다. 2장에서는 1장과는 대조적으로 무대 중앙에서 좌우를 넓게 활용하며 빠른 템포로 수직적인 움직임, 에너지가 강한 움직임을 보이며 욕망을 표출시킨다. 마지막 3장은 총 3단계의 이동경로를 보이는데 처음에는 하수 앞쪽에서 욕망이 좌절된 것을 이미지화하고, 무대 뒤쪽으로 들어가 감정을 억누르는 것을 상징적인 움직임을 통해 표현한다. 그리고 다시 상수 뒤쪽에서 하수앞쪽까지 대각선으로 전진하는 경로를 사용하며 직접적으로 잠재되어있는 욕망을 표현하며 마무리하였다. 셋째, 음악은 각 장면별로 무용수의 감정표현에 효과를 더해줄 음악적 특질을 고려하여 사티, 쇼스타코비치, 쇼팽의 피아노 연주곡 총 3곡을 편집하여 사용하였다. 1장에서는 담담하면서 절제된 심리를 그려냈고, 이와는 대조적으로 2장에서는 속도감 있고 강렬하게 비트의 음악을 사용하며 욕망을 표현했다. 마지막 3장에서는 무겁고 애수에 찬 슬픈 곡조를 통해 아련한 감정을 증폭시켰다. 또한 작품의 주제를 효과적으로 표현하기위해 의상의 색감을 활용하였다. 옆 라인에 회색의 선이 굵게 들어간 붉은 색의 원피스는 욕망, 미련, 아쉬움과 같은 감정의 추상적 이미지를 시각화 하고 작품의 주제를 상징적으로 암시하였다. 이상과 같이 무용창작작품 「모든, 가질 수 없는 것들」은 소설의 텍스트 즉, 욕망과 억압이란 본능적인 심리기제에 주목하여 이를 무용 예술로 소통 및 전달하고자 하였다. 이러한 일은 예술 창작활동을 통하여 현대인들이 좌절된 욕망을 다스리는 억압적인 방식에 대해 문제의식을 자각하고, 인간 심리에 대한 관심을 불러일으키는데 기여하는 의미 있는 일이 될 것이라 사료된다.;Art is the act of the human beings that is completed through communication. Likewise, all art forms are based on the notion of communication. After the post modernism era during the latter end of the 20th Century, all the art forms demands the active process for drawing out implications initiated by the users instead of stopping at finding the meaning that the artists fixated. This applies to all the areas that are part of the art, and the art works do not draw out only the fixated meaning. This goes beyond time and space, and it is interpreted in new ways at all times, enabling diverse interpretations. After the WWII, complex and chaotic cultural phenomenon of the people of the modern era is factored in. Likewise, post-modernism that appeared is the trend that speaks for the latter end of the 20th Century. When perceived on the micro level, it is the backlash against modernism, and it signifies cultural and artistic movements as well. Under the post-modernism trend, the American literature during the latter end of the 20th Century gave birth to the diverse works while prioritizing voluntariness and popular appeal. This leaves behind the room for the readers to come up with diverse interpretations, enabling them to embrace in an active manner. Likewise, post-modernism literature demonstrate that although reading literature is important, it is equally important to think creatively after reading and to help to understand the life in a comprehensive manner. Accordingly, this research examined the epochal background of the American literature during the latter end of the 20th Century by leveraging Tracy Chevalier’s 『Girl with a Pearl Earring』. The author and the contents of the text were examined to explain the psychology of the female protagonist using the concepts of desire and repression. Based on this, the dance piece, 「Everything We Cannot Have」was choreographed, and the psychology of desire and repression found in the book were examined. Likewise, the purpose of this research is to find the appropriateness of transforming awareness of the people living in the modern era. The results of conducting analysis on the dance piece, 「Everything We Cannot Have」are as follows. First, the dance piece, 「Everything We Cannot Have」focused on changes in the psychological feeling of the protagonist, Griet in Tracy Chevalier’s 『Girl with a Pearl Earring』, and the text that summarizes her feeling was extracted for each scene after which theme was decided. Total of three acts were configured as such. Act 1 is the beginning when Griet goes into the artist’s world, and thus this is the start of desire. Act 2 shows how the desire was expressed. The last act, the Act 3 expresses that the desire remains in the heart without getting resolved although the despaired emotion is suppressed as the desire is gone array. Second, space configuration and movements are diversified according to each scene’s themes. First, in case of the intro during the Act 1, straight line pattern that focuses only on the constant from the front to the rear part of the stage is used, and static movement pattern is detected with slow tempo. Act 2 is different from Act 1 in the sense that the left and right from the center of the stage are used widely to manifest vertical movement with fast tempo and to express the emotion by manifesting the movement with powerful energy. In the last act, the Act 3, total of three tier floor is showcased. In the beginning, the image of the despaired desire is showcased towards the front part of the sewage while the repression of the emotion is expressed through the symbolic movement towards the rear part of the stage. Then, the pattern that moves forwards diagonally from the rear part of the constant to the front part of the sewage is used to express the latent desire, to conclude the act. Third, three songs composed by Satie, Shostakovich and Chopin are used by editing them by factoring in the characteristics of the music that will add on the effect when expressing dancers’ emotion for each scene. In Act 1, serene and disciplined psychology is depicted. Unlike Act 1, Act 2 expresses desire by using music with speedy and powerful beat. In Act 3, heavy and sorrowful song is used to amplify otherwise subtle emotion. Moreover, different colors are used for garments to express the themes effectively. Red dress with the thick gray lines marked along the sides visualizes desire, regret, and frustration, trying to communicate with the audience by implying the themes in a symbolic manner. The above mentioned dance piece, 「Everything We Cannot Have」seeks to communicate and to deliver message via dance by focusing on the novel’s text, which is based on the in-born qualities such as desire and repression. This research is meaningful since it raises awareness on the repressive manners that the people today deal with despaired desire by leveraging creative dance, and since it induces interest on human psychology, contributing to the effort to search ways to release all these emotions in a positive manner.
