자연적 요소(nature’s elements)와 빛을 이용한 도자 조형 연구

Abstract

Art in the nature’s elements started from the ancient times. In the west, the nature was considered as something in contrast to the modern society, whereas the nature was seen as equal to human kind in the east. Eastern view of nature and it’s artistic implication developed with originality. Expressing the beauty of nature is not possible by imitating the nature, but through the artist's intuition. Base on the beauty of the nature, the artist is able to express nature's eternity, contingency, purity, harmony, liveliness, and reclamation, all of which are the symbols of nature. Nature’s element is a unique form mixed with the nature and things surrounding it is. It is a irregular and asymmetric form of aesthetics, yet has overall balance. The light is an ancient theme of art portrayed by humans from the very beginning. This research reanalyzes these two themes to express the nature's pure and innate beauty through ceramic art. This research came up with the following results. First, the creation of the nature form comes from the light, rocks, ancient remains, and roads, things we consider "natural." A good example would be that country roads and brick walls are man-made but viewed as natural. These forms have natural texture, smooth curves, windfall order, irregular patterns, simplicity, beauty of a blank space(‘Yeobaek’) and other things in common. Second, the light emphasizes the texture and creates atmosphere. The light on the subject form and the texture much in evidence. The additional shadow of the subject also shows the beauty beyond the artwork itself through light contrast. Adjusting the brightness of the light can give mood to the space. Reinterpreting the beauty of nature and researching the elements allow humans to preserve the emotions such as mystique, worship, respect, and comfort.;자연을 소재로 한 예술은 고대부터 현재에 이르기 까지 계속 이어져왔다. 서양에서는 근대사회의 반성으로 자연미를 탐구하였으며, 동양에서는 자연을 인간과 동등한 관계로 설정한 자연관을 바탕으로 자연을 표현하는 독특한 예술관이 발전하였다. 자연미의 표현은 자연을 모사(模寫)하는 것이 아니라 작가의 직관에 의한 재구성으로 가능하다. 예술가는 자연미의 탐구를 바탕으로 자연이 지닌 영원성, 우연성, 순수함, 조화, 생명력, 재생 등 자연이 가지고 있는 여러 상징적 의미를 형태적으로 구성할 수 있다. 자연적 요소란 자연 및 자연과 어우러진 인공물이 만들어낸 독특한 형태를 의미한다. 자연적 형태는 불규칙하고 비대칭적면서도 전체적 조화를 이루고 있는 미적 형태이다. 빛은 인간이 다루고 있는 고전적 예술 소재 중 하나이다. 본 연구는 도자작품을 통해 이와 같은 두 가지 테마를 재해석하여 자연이 가지고 있는 순수한 미, 원형적인 미를 도자 조형을 통해 재현하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연적 형태의 창조는 돌과 빛, 고대 유적, 길 등 우리가 ‘자연스럽다’고 인식하는 미적 형태에서 착안한다. 시골길과 돌담 등은 인공적 구조이지만 자연의 형태로 인식되는 것은 이러한 좋은 예이다. 이러한 형태는 공통적으로 원형질의 질감, 부드러운 곡선, 우발적 질서, 단순함과 담백함, 여백의 미 등 자연적 형태가 지닌 조형상의 특징을 지니고 있다. 둘째, 빛은 형태의 질감을 강조하고 공간의 분위기를 창조하는 기능을 한다. 대상을 비추는 빛은 대상의 형태를 강조하고, 물체가 가지고 있는 본연의 질감을 선명하게 부각한다. 대상을 부각한 빛이 조형의 이면에 만들어내는 그림자는 밝음과 어두움, 음양의 대비를 통해 조형의 미감을 연출하고 조형 이외의 의미를 만든다. 공간을 채우는 빛은 밝기와 강도의 조절을 통해 공간의 분위기를 연출한다. 자연미의 재해석과 형태에 대한 탐구는 인간이 자연 안에서 느끼는 신비로움, 숭배, 경외, 편안함 등 인간의 이성이 도달할 수 없는 원초적 감정에 대한 보존이며, 이를 예술적으로 표현하는 유용한 방법이다.
