고등학교 교내 동아리활동이 시민성에 미치는 효과 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 자율성, 공동체의식, 참여의식, 관용정신으로 구성된다고 볼 수 있는 시민성에 고등학교의 동아리활동이 어느 정도 영향을 주는가를 경험적 측정 자료를 이용하여 실증적으로 검증하는 것이다. 동아리활동이 학교에서 더욱 활성화된다면, 사회과 교육에서 요구되는 시민성의 함양은 물론이거니와 공동체를 비롯한 사회문제 문제를 통합적인 시각에서 파악할 수 있다. 이러한 목적을 달성하기 위하여 선행연구를 기초로 제작한 설문지를 서울특별시와 인천광역시, 경기도 소재 인문계 고등학교에 재학 중인 청소년 1036명을 대상으로 수집하였고, 그 자료를 Ttest와 일원분산분석, 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 이와 같은 연구방법에 의해서 고등학교 동아리활동과 시민성의 관계에 대하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 동아리활동 참여여부에 따른 시민성의 차이검증에서는 동아리활동에 참여하는 학생이 참여하지 않는 학생보다 시민성을 비롯한 시민성 하위요소(자율성, 공동체의식, 참여의식, 관용정신) 모든 부분에서 더 높은 유의미한 결과를 보였다. 둘째, 동아리 활동 참여시간에 따른 시민성의 차이검증에서는 시민성 전체를 비롯한 시민성 하위요소(자율성, 공동체의식, 참여의식, 관용정신) 모두 유의하지 않아 가설이 기각되었다. 셋째, 동아리 활동 참여기간에 따른 시민성의 차이검증에서는 시민성과 시민성의 하위요소인 자율성과 참여의식에서만 유의한 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 동아리 가입의 내적참여도에 따른 시민성의 차이검증에서는 시민성을 비롯한 시민성의 하위요소(자율성, 공동체의식, 참여의식, 관용정신) 모든 부분에서 유의한 결과가 나타났다. 이러한 결과들은 고등학생들이 동아리활동의 참여와 참여기간 시민성에 대한 실질적인 영향을 미친다는 것에 의미를 가질 수 있다.;This study aims to use empirical measurements to determine how much club activities at high school affect citizenship which can be composed of autonomy, a sense of community, a sense of participation, and the spirit of tolerance. If club activities are more activated at school, it can not only improve citizenship as demanded by social studies education but also understand social problems, including community issues, from an integrative perspective. For this purpose, questionnaires based on prior researches were distributed to 1036 adolescents at academic high schools in Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi Province, and the data from the survey went through t-test, one-way ANOVA, and regression analysis. With these methods, the following conclusions about relations between club activities at high school and citizenship were drawn. First, as for differences in citizenship by participation in club activities, students participating in club activities showed more significant results in citizenship and all of its sub-factors―autonomy, a sense of community, a sense of participation, and the spirit of tolerance―than non-participants. Second, as for differences in citizenship by the amount of time for participation in club activities, the hypothesis was rejected since there was no significant difference both in citizenship and all of its sub-factors―autonomy, a sense of community, a sense of participation, and the spirit of tolerance. Third, as for differences in citizenship by the period of participation in club activities, there were significant differences in citizenship and some of its sub-factors: autonomy and a sense of participation. Fourth, as for differences in citizenship by internal participation in joining a club, there were significant differences in citizenship and all of its sub-factors―autonomy, a sense of community, a sense of participation, and the spirit of tolerance. These results can be significant in that participation in club activities and the period of the participation by high school students substantially affect their citizenship.
