Abstract
This study aims that works of Kang Kyoung-Ae representing women writers of 1930s mean ethics more than morality, go beyond traditional normative ethics and have the characteristics of the feminine ethics having different perspective from men. Kang's novels derive from 'poverty'. Colonial Chosun in 1930s began to be included in capitalism system and common people were forced to be placed in violence of new order. In particular, Kang portrayed to focus on the reality of the underclass in 1930s, the era of absolute poverty. Expressing the reality on poverty and collapse of Family is the root of Kang's works. The absence of these appears clearly the characteristic of Kang's works and places a female subject in middle of it. Therefore, this study will analyze Kang's novel through ethicality revealed from the female subject, the space and the language that Kang is giving expression to. 'The feminine ethics focuses on a point of contact between women's study that focused on the femininity and cultural meaning on gender and feminist philosophy started from concern of the other against exclusion about the other. This demands deconstruction of conceptual dichotomy divided by logos, such as culture/nature, transcendence/immanence, universality/speciality, spirit/body, reason/emotion and so on. That is, the feminine ethics is a theoretical project on concerning about if the women can live better life in patriarchal society as well as criticizing the traditional male-dominated functions. It doesn't mean simply the economic equality of women, but the liberation of women from traditional ethics has subjugated women. It provides ethical principles and norms for not abstract happiness, but well-being in concrete lives for women. In addition, This problem about subordination between different groups is related to class privilege and racial discrimination as well as matter of gender. Therefore the feminine ethics has a possibility of concrete universality for not only women, but also everyone isolated and related to dominant relationship. In chapter Ⅱ, this study will focus on the occasion that the female subject mimics masculinity of the male subject because of the strong order. Without exception, these female subjects are placed in isolated and dangerous situation after leaving their home. They learn the ways of own lives and grow up through these ordeals. the growth process of the female subject, however, is different from men's because her growth is not subjective as compared with men's. The reality with overlapped deficiency works more harshly on the female subject than the male subject and forces her out a double torture and triple distress, such as sexual violence, economic oppression, and discrimination about the class and the race. The female subjects move from safe area to dangerous area and from the space of family community to the space of isolation. Endless migration is a process realizing sexual, hierarchical identity and a hard course of subjectivity. Women who do not settle experience many hardship to be transformed another subject with social consciousness different from previous themselves. As an alternative, the female subject want to be born to the subject of desire again with mimicking the masculinity of the male subject. They show ethicality because they are not in confrontation with the problem of male/female, but want to communicate with the authority, that is, men in patriarchal order. They are portrayed as a active fighter taking part in social activities or a assistant helping the male subject with socialism ideology. They go forward society and delete the feminity for coexistence with men. In chapter Ⅲ, this study will focus on the mother's body connected poverty with family and find out the concern of the other and the doubt on identity through Kang's figures. The female subjects meet the other directly through the real experience of lives and make a relationship to understand and include each other with the other. Women's perception on the other is distinguished from men's and makes the doubtful point about the perfect subject. That is, the subject is not perfect and fixed, but consists of relationship with the other. Therefore it has a power which can prosecute the reality and has an ethicality to realize the differentiation and relationship through the body and to come and go between the subject and the other. The effort to understand women's concrete experiences with recognizing the differentiation is connected to relationship ethics. It is represented to the feminine ethics that makes a relationship with the other as a body and experience. In chapter Ⅳ, we can see the female characters who overcome strong reality for themselves. They wear the mask because they cannot reveal their bare face in strong patriarchal order. Kang's works show the female characters who wear the mask of 'the good wife' and want to live in patriarchal society. They have to wear the mask of 'the good wife' in order not to be women consumed as an only image of modern girl. And then they ensured the survival begin to do with understanding everything. At same time they have a concern about the isolated other and think about real themselves behind the mask. They are significant because they are not just victims, but beings who create an air of anxiety in patriarchal order. They are 'the other' who returns to the femininity of the symbolic order as throwing the patriarchal order into confusion. They intentionally obey the patriarchal order in the symbolic world. They don't plot against the patriarchal order because they know that the symbolic world is essential in order to become subject. Even though knowing the contradiction of the patriarchy, they exaggeratingly obey the patriarchal order to expose the contradiction of the order well. They want to live with men, so make the space between in the symbolic world. As above, Kang's novels reveal the contradiction of the patriarchy showing 'the others' isolated by the patriarchy. In addition, they show the new feminine subject who reveals the contradiction of the symbolic world as parodying the order and living a real life. Kang's novels can have a chance that discloses the strong reality and get a political power that proceeds to the practice for the change. The reading Kang's novels with the feminine ethics suggests a new perspective and also can give a possibility of positive analysis on the discussion pointed to the limitation on Kang's works.;본 연구는 1930년대를 대표하는 여성작가 강경애가 등단작 「파금」에서부터「마약」에 이르기까지 도덕보다 윤리를 우위에 두고 남성-이성 중심의 전통적인 규범윤리를 넘어서고 있으며, 남성과 다른 여성윤리의 특성을 가지고 있다는 데에서 출발한다.
