생명체의 순환에 관한 조형표현

Abstract

인생이라는 요람에서 무덤에 이르기까지 우리는 마라톤선수처럼 일생의 경주를 한다. 무덤에 누가 먼저 도착할 것인가는 정해져 있지 않다. 철학자 하이데거는 인간을 죽음을 향한 존재로 규정하고 있다. 죽음이후의 세계는 경험하기 전까지는 그 누구도 알 수 없지만 확실 한 것은 우리는 죽음을 향해 한걸음씩 내딛으며 죽어 가고 있다는 것이다. 내 몸에 있는 모든 세포, 내 몸을 구성하는 모든 미생물, 내 몸을 지탱하는 모든 조직을 떠올려보면 그것들은 다 일정한 수명을 가지고 있고 수명이 다하는 순간 금세 죽은 세포로 바뀌고 만다. 우리는 살아 있으면서도 순간순간 죽고 있는 것이다. 멸하고 생하고 멸하고 다시 생하는 것이 우리의 몸이며 삶이다. 봄이 가면 여름이 오고, 여름이 가면 가을, 겨울이 온다. 겨울은 아무것도 없는 고요함에 죽음의 계절이라고 말하지만 사실 시리도록 차가운 눈발 아래에는 새 생명이 가능성을 잠재 한 채 응축되어 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 계절의 변화가 끝없이 순환을 반복하고 아침과 밤을 향한 지구의 자전이 반복되는 것처럼 생명체도 머무르지 않고 변화 한다. 동물과 식물, 그리고 인간과 우주까지 모든 생명체는 생성하고 성장하여 소멸하는 순환의 과정을 겪는다. 생명체인 나 역시도 이러한 순환의 과정 속에 있다. 본 연구자는 때때로 이러한 순환의 과정을 겪는 생명체에 대한 물음을 갖게 된다. 생(生)과 사(死)의 갈림길에 선 생명체를 가까이서 지켜본 경험, 죽음으로 이별한 경험을 겪은 이후로 나의 궁금증은 더욱더 증폭되었다. 생명체는 왜 소멸해야 하는 것일까? 이러한 궁금증은 나에게 이따금씩 공포와 두려움이 되기도 하며 나의 조형 활동의 표현 주제가 되었다. 본 연구에서는 본인의 이러한 궁금증으로 시작된 '생명체의 순환'이라는 표현 주제에 대한 의미를 문헌연구를 통해 이해하고 조형 작품으로 표현하였다. 작품의 제작을 위하여 '생명체의 순환'의 과정인 생성, 성장, 소멸 중 생성의 의미를 담기위해 실과 나뭇가지를 사용하여 새로운 생명체가 뻗어 나가는 모습을 표현 하였고, 소멸의 의미를 함축적으로 담기 위하여 동물의 두개골을 이용하였다. 표현의 기법은 실을 중첩하거나, 나뭇가지를 동물의 두개골에 결합하여 총 8점의 작품을 제작하였고, '생명체의 순환'이라는 주제의 시각화를 연구 하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 생명체의 소멸로 인한 두려움과 궁금증을 '생명체의 순환'의 과정으로 이해하여, 두려움에서 조금이나마 벗어날 수 있는 계기를 갖게 되었다. 조형 활동의 표현 주제는 표현하는 주체인 연구자의 삶과 깊이 관련되어 있음을 경험하였으며, 이러한 조형 활동은 미술치료의 측면으로도 연구자에게 긍정적인 경험을 가능케 하였다. 이 연구를 계기로 앞으로도 계속적인 예술 활동을 실천하기 위해 깊은 사고와 탐구 의지를 가지고 나만의 조형 활동과 창의적인 조형언어를 찾기 위한 연구를 지속적으로 수행해 나가려고 한다.;From the cradle to grave of life, we run a race of life like the marathon runners. It has not been determined who will first reach their grave. A philosopher Heidegger defines humans as the existence that is heading toward death. No one can know the after-death world before actually experiencing it but what is certain is that we are dying as we take our step toward death. As we think about every cell, microorganism and tissue constituting and sustaining the body, we realize that all of these have a certain lifespan and they immediately turn into dead cells at the moment of their expiration. We are dying moment by moment even as we are alive. Expiring and living and expiring once again is our body and life. Summer comes after spring followed by fall and winter. Although they say that winter is a season of death with dead silence, we can in fact know that new lives are condensed with latent potential underneath the piercing cold snow field. Just as the change of season endlessly repeats its circulation and the rotation of earth toward morning and night continuously repeats, living creatures also change than remaining constant. Every living creature from animals and plants to humans and the universe goes through the circulation process of creation, growth and extinction. As a living creature myself, I am also in the midst of such circulation process. At times, this researcher develops a curiosity on living creatures that experience such circulation process. My curiosity became further amplified through my experience of watching close by a living creature on the crossroad of life and death as well as the experience of separation by death. Why do living creatures have to become extinct? Such curiosity of mine becomes a fear and horror at times and it has also become a subject of expression on my formative activities. In this study, the meaning on the expression subject 'circulation of living creatures' that began from such curiosity of mine was examined through literature study and expressed through formative artworks. In the production of the artworks, threads and twigs were used to express a new living creature branching out in order to contain the meaning of creation among the creation, growth and extinction, the process of 'circulation of living creatures', and an animal skull was used in order to implicitly contain the meaning of extinction. As for the expression techniques, threads were overlapped or twigs were connected to the animal skull to produce in the total of 8 pieces of artworks, and the visualization of the subject 'circulation of living creatures' was studied. This study provided me with an opportunity to get away from fear even in small ways by understanding the fear and curiosity on the extinction of living creatures through the process of 'circulation of living creatures'. I have experienced that the expression subject of formative activities is deeply related to the life of the researcher, the subject of expression, and such formative activities allowed the researcher a positive experience in the aspect of art therapy. Through this study, I plan to continuously conduct studies on finding my own formative activities and creative formative language with deep insight and intention for exploration in order to continuously carry out my art activities.
