'인간 욕망'의 현대적 현상을 반영한 실험적 시각표현 연구

Abstract

Art has always coexisted with human-beings and its objects and themes have been changed by artists according to the era, as Carl Jung regarded the artists as the devices of expression in the spirit of his era as well as its voice which made psychological fact as the starting point. Most of artists used to express the experiences of their lives in their creative activities. They reflect their spiritual world, their lives, the phenomena of the era and their thoughts against it. It is natural that the artists express their particular era and lives which are the motives of their activities. Consciously or unconsciously the artist come to have his or her own particular purpose and direction according to individual environment, which can be expressed by means of his or her works and also can be completed through inner interchanges with others, that is communication. The desires of human-beings can be identified as the essences which create society and culture. Culture comes to be made according to human desires and expanded to its entire shape, which often appears as hardened social convention or habits. These phenomena represent human-beings who live and create culture in the society. In other words, the examination of social, political and economic movements and changes of the era enable us to recognize what are the desires of modern people. In this study, the meanings and situations of modern phenomena of human desire are recomposed and reinterpreted visually. However, the scope of human desires are so enormous that human desires are analyzed and limited in the that of this research of my works. It is stupid to divide art and design as to divide ‘Romeo and Juliet’ of Shakespeare into two books. I won't suggest the identification of pure art and design, but these two belong to the same area. Design and pure art as the lower concept of art share the influences mutually like members of the family in order to express visual works completely in 21th century, the era of cross-over. By destroying their own fence and expanding the scope, fresher and more interesting works come to appear. In this thesis, I would like to start from art as higher concept of visual design, and to understand the phenomena of cross-over which appear in vidual design and pure art recently. And I would intend to discuss about 'conceptual design belonging to experimental design to communicate as designer as a worker freeing himself or herself from the role of traditional designer. Particularly, I would like to make the contents of design in which meaning and concept are more valuable, by means of experimental design. These expanded the conceptual art as a contemporary art and concept-centered methodology into that of visual design. The purpose of this thesis, ‘The Study of Experimental Visual Expression Reflecting the Modern Phenomena of Human Desire’ is to look deeply into modern phenomena of human desires by visually recomposing korean cultures, domestic realities, the shapes of our lives and the dilemma of the era. Particularly, in this thesis, I apply the method of 'archive' which collect and record the existing things to express 'human desires' in the world objectively, and the method of ‘mapping’ to express them interestingly. Archive and mapping, methodologies of conceptual art, are experimented diversely recently in design of visual communication and open the possibility of new method of expression Through this study of experimental visual expression, I would like to induce the audience into reflecting the meaning of 'modern phenomena of human desires which are made and formed by human-beings.;스위스 심리학자인 칼융(Carl Gustav Jung, 1875-1961)이 그의 저서 「인간과 무의식의 상징」에서 “어느 시대에서든 예술가는 그가 속한 시대정신의 표현수단이며 대변자”라고 하는 심리학적 선언을 출발점으로 삼고 있는 것처럼, 예술은 항상 인간과 함께 공존해 오고 있으며, 시대에 따라 예술가가 표현하는 대상과 주제는 달라졌다. 대부분의 예술가들은 그들의 창작행위에서, 자신들이 세상을 살아가면서 경험하는 것들을 표출한다. 그들은 자신의 정신세계나 삶, 시대상 혹은 이에 맞선 자신의 생각 등을 작품에 반영하고 있다. 인간이 지각하는 행위의 발상 점인 특정한 시대나 삶이 예술가에 의해 표현 되는 것은 사실 당연한 것이다. 의식적으로든 무의식적으로든 예술가들은 자신의 사회적 여건이나 개인적 환경에 따라 특정한 목적과 지향점을 가지게 된다. 이는 그들의 작품을 통하여 표출 될 뿐만 아니라 다른 사람들과의 내면적 교류의 소통을 통하여 완성된다. 인간의 욕망은 사회와 문화를 창조하는 본질적인 것으로 정의를 내릴 수 있다. 인간이 욕망하는 것에 따라 문화가 만들어지고 확산되면서 전체적인 모습을 갖추게 되고 사회적으로 굳은 관습이나 습관과 같은 형태로 나타나기도 한다. 이렇게 만들어진 현상들은 그 사회에서 살면서 문화를 만들어 가는 인간들을 대변해준다. 다시 말하면, 시대의 사회적, 정치적, 경제적 움직임이나 변화 등을 눈여겨보면 현대인들의 욕망은 어떤 것들이 있는지 찾아 볼 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 인간 욕망의 현대적 현상들의 의미와 정황을 재구성 하고 시각적으로 재해석하였다. 다만 인간의 욕망 이라는 것이 너무 방대하기 때문에 먼저 인간이 가진 ‘욕망’을 분석하고, 작품연구의 범위에 제한을 두었다. 본 논문에서 선정한 욕망은 ‘존재욕망’, ‘권력욕망’, '성적욕망', 그리고 '승인욕망' 이다. 순수미술과 디자인을 분리하여 생각하는 것은 마치 셰익스피어의 ‘로미오 와 줄리엣’을 두 권의 책으로 분리하는 것이나 마찬가지다. 순수미술과 디자인의 동일성을 주장하는 것은 아니지만, 그 둘은 분명 같은 일족에 속한다. 탈 경계 시대인 21세기에는 디자인과 순수미술은 예술의 하위 개념으로서 시각적으로 완벽하게 표현하기 위해 서로 영향을 주고받는 가족 구성원의 형태를 지니고 있다. 장르와 이즘을 넘나들며 자신의 울타리를 의도적으로 깨뜨리고 확장시킴으로써 좀 더 새롭고 신선하며 흥미로운 작품들이 나타나고 있다. 본 논문에서는 시각디자인의 상위 개념인 ‘예술’이란 큰 울타리에서 시작하여 최근에 시각디자인과 순수미술에서 나타나고 있는 ‘탈 경계’ 현상들을 이해하고자 한다. 그리고 전통적 시각 디자이너의 형태를 벗어난 작가적 디자이너이자 시각 예술가로서 커뮤니케이션을 하기 위해 사용하는 다양한 디자인 방법론 중에서, 특히 지적인 의미작용과 흥미를 일으키는 실험적 디자인에 속하는 ‘개념 디자인’을 확산 시키고자 한다. 이에 따라, 아카이브와 맵핑의 방법론을 이용한 실험적 디자인을 통하여 의미와 개념이 더 중요시 되는 디자인 콘텐츠를 만들고자 한다. 이는 최근 비 주얼 커뮤니케이션 디자인 경향에서 자주 나타나는 현대미술의 하나인 개념미술의 의미와 사고 중심의 방법론을 시각디자인 방법론으로 확장시킨 것이다. 존 듀이는 인간과 사회가 상호간에 영향을 주고받으면서 지속적으로 변화하고 성장하는 일상적인 활동을 예술과 관련시키면서 예술이 일상과 별개의 활동이 아니라 일상을 통해 참여하고 성장하는 과정으로 인식하였다. 본 논문의 주제인 ‘인간 욕망의 현대적 현상을 반영한 실험적 시각표현 연구’란 한국인의 문화, 국내의 현실, 그리고 우리 삶의 형태, 시대의 딜레마 등에 내포하고 있는 ‘인간 욕망의 현대적 현상’을 깊게 바라볼 수 있도록 시각적으로 재구성 한 것이다. 특히 본 논문에서는 세상에 드러나는 ‘인간 욕망’을 객관적으로 표현하기 위해서 지금 현존하는 것들을 실제로 수집, 기록 하는 ‘아카이브’의 방법과 이를 흥미롭게 표현시켜줄 수 있는 ‘맵 핑’의 방법을 적용 시켰다. 아카이브와 맵핑은 개념미술의 방법론중의 하나로 최근 비 주얼 커뮤니케이션 디자인에서 다양하게 실험되고 있으며, 디자이너에게 새로운 표현 방법의 가능성을 열어주고 있다. 본 논문에서는 실험적인 시각 표현 연구를 통해 관람자가 우리 인간들이 만들어 놓은, 그리고 형성해가는 ‘인간욕망의 현대적 현상’의 의미를 반추해보는 기회를 제공하는 것에 의미를 두고자 한다.
