레온 페스팅거의 인지부조화 이론에 기초한 무용 창작 작품 Truthiness 에 관한 연구

Abstract

A sudden industrialization and economic growth in the modern society resulted in deficit of individual morality and the group-orientation focus on competition and various derivative problems occur. Look of the modern society that decorates false truth as real truth or that will achieve the purpose by hook or by crook is not only a paradoxical phenomena conflicting with the morale appropriateness but is acting as factor harmful to the whole of a society. Like this, unreasonable social phenomena that provide improper thought and viewpoint to the modern peoples become severe problems when they commit faults but do not feel any responsibility for them. Personal value and idea that are improperly formed are not only difficult to be remold in a proper state but they gradually grow and result in modification of a lot of recognitions. It is called as ‘bias on a strong confirmation’ and means to strengthen personal stereotype by gathering only observations and evidences on the individual prejudice and makes reasonable and rational judgment impossible. Thus, this study is intended to suggest problems in relation with abnormal structures of the modern society that not only justifies the use of untruth and expediency but does not fee sense of guilt, and raise the necessity of truth and morale value that are not distorted. This study is composed of analysis of the「Truthiness」(2010) as a dance work created on a theory of Cognitive Dissonance suggested by Leon Festinger(1919∼1989) as a psychologist. Cognitive Dissonance that means an inconsistent cognition existing in the individual has not only an effect on the establishment of consciousness of the society members who have not their cognition power but further becomes a factor of organizing social mechanism. Accordingly, establishment of individual subjective viewpoint and firm thought along with the establishment of the systematic device is more importantly required. The work consisted of 3 total three chapters with classification into 3 steps including inconvenience resulting from cognitive dissonance between behavior and attitude, modification of cognition for reducing inconvenience and reliance with wrong truth. Choreography was designed focus on theme and contents, organization by scene, use and movement of stage space, and image of object. In addition, this study was concentrated on effective delivery of theme as well as visual expression of psychological stats of a character by allocating the stage space with installation of a device or using symbolic object. The chapter I of the work treated the inside of attitude that experiences psychological dilemma depending on inconsistence and unbalance of both attitude and behavior. As a method to represent relationship between both attitude and behavior, independent space was granted to 2 dancers. The stage space was optionally separated by allowing either dancer A(attitude) to use only the down stage of the stage, the other dancer B(behavior) to use only the upstage of the stage. In addition, the method to limit the movement scope by using lighting effect revealed disjunction feeling between two dancers. Setting to wind the object as a dressing around only the dancer A’s body imaged different status between attitude and behavior. The chapter 2 focus the process that attitude and behavior, that failed to change behavior, changed their looks themselves to achieve harmony between two factors. It was expressed by a diagonal line type of movement path gradually moved toward the front side of the lower arm where a dressing bundle existed from the rear side of the upper arm, and by the dancer A’s movement to release the dressing wounded around the body. In addition, two objects as dressing and dressing bundle were removed at the same time to suggest change of the attitude that was a theme of the Chapter 2. The chapter 3 was concentrated on the look that the attitude succeeding consistence with behavior went over the consistence and entered into a state of illusion that believed untruth as truth. This visually showed the status that the dancer A(attitude) went over his or her space and invaded into the behavior, namely the dancer B’s area and expressed the contents by implication. Looks of two dancers that were forcedly fixed not only formed a horizontal scheme but seemed stably because they existed in the same space but meant a dodgy reality that failed to actually achieve perfect consistence. Movement of the dancer A who appeared with the object to symbolize psychological dilemma expressed looks of the modern people who committed fault in a dodgy reality and contained the intent of the choreography to provide opportunity of awareness to viewers of the work. The researcher intended a freedom from a wrong judgment by delivering message to guide realization of a righteous society by honest individuals by the work,「Truthiness」, establishing a right viewpoint in collision between truth and distortion.;오늘날 사회의 급격한 산업화 및 경제성장은 개인의 도덕성 결핍과 경쟁 위주의 집단화를 초래하였으며 이에 따라 여러 가지 문제점들이 발생하고 있다. 사실이 아닌 것을 사실처럼 꾸미거나 목적 달성을 위해 온갖 수단과 방법을 가리지 않는 현대사회의 모습은 도덕적 당위성에 상충하는 역설적인 현상일 뿐 아니라 사회 전반에 걸쳐 해가 되는 요소로 작용하고 있다. 이와 같이 현대인들에게 올바르지 못한 사상과 관점을 부여하는 부조리한 사회현상들은 이를 저지르고 있으면서도 잘못에 대한 책임을 느끼지 못할 경우에 더욱 심각한 문제가 된다. 대체로 올바르지 못하게 형성된 개인의 가치 및 관념은 바른 상태로 새롭게 구축되기 어려울 뿐 아니라 점차 확장되어 수많은 인식의 변이를 유발한다. 이를 확증편향이라고 하는데 이것은 개인의 선입관에 근거한 관찰과 증거만을 모아 자신의 고정관념을 강화시키는 것으로서 합리적이고 이성적인 판단을 불가능하게 한다. 따라서 연구자는 거짓과 편법의 사용을 당연시 여길 뿐 아니라 그에 대한 죄책감을 갖지 않는 현대사회의 비정상적 구조에 대하여 문제점을 제시하고 왜곡되지 않은 진실과 도덕적 가치의 필요성을 제기하고자 하였다. 본 연구는 심리학자 레온 페스팅거(Leon Festinger, 1919∼1989)의 인지부조화 이론에 근거하여 창작된 무용작품「Truthiness」(2010)에 대한 분석으로 이루어진다. 개인 안에 존재하는 서로 모순된 인지를 의미하는 인지부조화는 스스로의 인지 능력에 자신이 없는 사회구성원들의 의식 확립에 영향을 줄 뿐 아니라 나아가 사회의 메커니즘을 구성하는 요소가 된다. 이에 따라 제도적 장치의 구축과 더불어 개인의 주관적인 가치관과 확고한 사상의 수립은 더욱 주요하게 요구되어지는 바이다. 작품은 태도와 행동이라는 두 가지 인지의 부조화에 따른 불편에서부터 불편의 감소를 위한 인지의 변이, 그릇된 사실에 대한 신뢰라는 세 가지 단계로 나누어 총 세 개의 장으로 구성하였으며 주제 및 내용, 장면 별 구성, 무대 공간의 사용과 움직임, 오브제의 이미지를 중점적으로 다루어 안무하였다. 아울러 장치의 설치를 통해 무대 공간을 분할하거나 상징적 의미의 오브제를 사용함으로써 인물의 심리상태를 시각적으로 표현하는 동시에 주제를 효과적으로 전달하고자 하였다. 작품의 1장에서는 태도와 행동의 모순과 불균형에 따라 심리적 갈등을 겪는 태도의 내면을 다루었다. 태도와 행동의 관계를 나타내기 위한 방법으로 두 명의 무용수들에게 각각 독립적인 공간을 부여하여 무용수 A(태도)에게는 무대의 다운 스테이지만을, 무용수 B(행동)에게는 무대의 업 스테이지만을 사용하게 함으로써 무대 공간을 임의로 구분하게 하였다. 또한 조명의 효과를 이용하여 움직임의 이동 범위를 제한하는 방식을 통해 서로 융화되지 못하는 두 무용수 사이의 괴리감을 드러내고자 하였으며 붕대라는 오브제를 무용수 A의 신체에만 감도록 설정하여 태도와 행동의 상이한 상황을 이미지화하였다. 2장에서는 행동의 변형에 실패한 태도가 두 가지 인지 요소 간의 일치를 이루고자 자신의 모습을 스스로 변화시키는 과정을 내용으로 삼았다. 이는 상수 뒤쪽에서부터 붕대 뭉치가 있는 하수 앞쪽을 향하여 점차 나아가는 사선 형태의 이동 경로와 신체에 감겨 있던 붕대를 풀어내는 무용수 A의 움직임을 통해 표현하였다. 또한 붕대와 붕대 뭉치라는 두 가지 오브제를 동시에 제거하여 2장의 주제내용인 태도의 변화를 암시하고자 하였다. 3장에서는 행동과의 일치에 성공한 태도가 일치를 넘어 허구를 진실로 믿는 착각의 상태에 진입하게 되는 모습을 내용으로 다루었다. 이는 태도를 의미하는 무용수 A가 자신의 공간을 초월하여 행동, 즉 무용수 B의 영역으로 침범하는 상황을 시각적으로 보여주면서 그 내용을 함축적으로 표현한다. 억지로 끼워 맞춰진 두 무용수의 모습은 평행 구도를 이룰 뿐 아니라 같은 공간에 존재하기 때문에 안정적으로 보일 수 있지만 사실상 완벽한 합치를 이루지 못하는 위태로운 현실을 의미한다. 심리적 갈등을 상징하는 오브제를 들고 등장하는 무용수 A의 움직임은 위태로운 현실 속에서 오류를 범하고 있는 현대인에 대한 묘사로써 작품을 보는 이들에게 현실에 대한 자각의 기회를 제공하고자 하는 안무의 의도를 담고 있다. 연구자는 작품「Truthiness」를 통해 정직한 개인들에 의한 정의로운 사회의 구현을 유도하는 메시지를 전달하고 진실과 왜곡 사이의 충돌 속에서 올바른 가치관을 수립하여 그릇된 판단으로부터 자유로워질 것을 당부하고자 하였다.
