dc.description.abstract도자예술은 제작과정에서 흙의 고유한 물성에 영향을 받는다. Artists in diverse areas find the subject matter of their artworks and express their sentiments in nature which is the base of life. Particularly, the sea is the base of life for fishermen while it is the object which city people, who are living far away from it, are longing for. Modern people become part of nature amid the scenery of the shallow and calm seaside at a low tide, incessantly changing and rolling waves and the grandeur of the sun rise at the horizon, and feel comfort and tranquility and pleasure from the rhythmical scenes. Accordingly, the purpose of this research is to make artworks that enable modern people to revive the sentiment suppressed by daily living and recollect the memories and feelings that they have experienced in the past. In setting the sea as the subject matter of works and arranging images, the sea scenes can be seen from diverse angles but the subject matter of the work this time was examined from three different angles of the seaside, waves, and the horizon. First, the formative beauty such as the organic forms, comparison coming from the texture, and the repetition of rhythmical beauty, the seaside, waves, and the horizon were examined and the works of art that apply the images of the sea were also consulted. The common point of the sea and earth was found in that the sea does not have figuration itself but its figuration is formed and changed by external force and expression was attempted focusing on this, rather than by sketching the image of the sea and make forms intentionally. So I attached importance to the act of creation and the production process and the theories of ceramics of abstract expression exploring the properties of clay and such ceramics formative works were examined. After that, the sentiments felt in the sea were expressed through repeating and learning the process to make forms coming from the application of ceramics quality by adding the external force rather than intending forms and intentionally embodiment. Based on such theoretical background, simple forms were designed and cast in <Works, 1, 2, 3,4,5,9,10> in the stage of forming works, they were given modification by adding forces such as cutting, hitting and pushing after taking out of the mould. In <the Work 4>, the process of slipping clods was applied, and in <Works 6, and 7> transformation after pressure added forming by applying forms of wrinkles generated by hitting the thin earth plate was given. And in <Work 8>, the image of waves was expressed by the trace generated in folding when pushing the earth plate with the roll pin. For the background, white ceramic earth was used, and in <Works 6 and 7>, the combination of pieces of newspaper 10% and alumina 3% was used. Due to the nature of expressing images by casting white ceramic earth and by adding force after taking it out of the mould, I worked while giving heed to unintended tearing phenomena and cracking in the course of drying. To show the color of unglazed clay when glazing, <Works, 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10>, were glazed through immersing in transparent glaze. And for the stagnating effects of waves and the partial effects of glazing, partially many more times of glazing or latex after general immersing glazing was used. In < Work 3>, partially white mat was used, and <Works 3 and 5>, cobalt was applied and wiped out in order to emphasize texture, and in <Works, 2 and 5>, glazing was done without enamel. The Plasticity was done by first plasticizing in 1.5㎥ ceramic flame gas kiln at maximum 900〫℃ for 8 hours and by second plasticizing in 1.5㎥ ceramic flame gas kiln and 0.5㎥ ceramic flame gas kiln at the finishing temperature of 1250〫℃for 10 hours. In < Work 2>, the single plasticity was done by using 0.5㎥ ceramic flame gas kiln at the finishing temperature of 1250〫℃ for 10 hours, and in <Works 1, 3, 4, 5, 10>, the plasticity was done by oxidizing flame in the 2nd plasticity, and in < Works, 6, 7, 8, 9> the plasticity was done by reducing flame. It has no arbitrary figuration and the common points between the sea and the ceramics were found in the figuration by external force and by working with focus on this, I could think as follows. First, earth is flexible material to express sentimentally ceaseless movement of the sea by natural force and the scenes that can be seen from changes in forms. Second, the sea is the object from which we can feel formative principles of rhythm and comparison and repetition through organic forms of natural phenomena. So it can stimulate the sentiments of modern people such as comforts and softness and can give them visual pleasure through the beauty of rhythm. Third, I could understand the properties of earth that came from the transformation by external force in the course of production and expand the scope of expressing sentiments by applying such methods and learning them repeatedly. Forth, it could be seen that diverse inspiration could be obtained from the phenomena occurred in the course of production in ceramic work. The time to seek and sketch the intention of the works is important and I think such inspirations and attempts will be greatly helpful to continuous work ahead. This researcher expects that the diverse images of the sea full of formative beauty will become good subject matter for artists and ceramists and be harmonized with the life of modern people.-
