Samuel Barber의 Excursion Op.20 분석 연구

Abstract

20세기는 사회, 경제적으로 발전하는 시기로 음악에서도 다양한 모습으로 급진적인 발전을 보이는 시기였다. 제1차 세계대전을 겪으며 유럽의 문화들은 미국으로 유입되면서 미국 특유의 정서와 실험성을 띄면서 미국 고유의 음악을 점차 확립하게 되었다. 제2차 세계대전 이후부터는 급진적인 실험성을 나타내며 전통적 음악의 경계를 벗어나는 모습이 나타나기도 하였다. 사무엘 바버(Samuel Barber, 1910-1981)는 이러한 급진적인 변화의 양상 속에서도 전통적인 기법을 고수하면서 현대적이며 대중적인 음악 요소를 결합하였는데 이는 그의 작품에서 재즈의 화성이나 전개방식, 민속 음악 선율의 사용 등으로 나타났다. 사무엘 바버 의 대표적인 피아노 작품 <Excursion op.20>(1944)는 4곡으로 이루어진 모음곡 형식으로 각 곡의 구성은 간결하지만 다양한 리듬의 변형으로 전개해 나가는 특징이 있다. 제1곡인 Ⅰ. Un poco allegro는 반복적인 오스티나토 베이스를 가진 부기우기 스타일의 곡으로 당김음과 함께 불규칙적인 악센트, 불협화음이 특징적으로 나타나고 제2곡인 Ⅱ. In slow blues tempo는 블루노트의 사용, 느린 템포 안에서 자유로운 선율을 나타내며 블루스의 모습을 보여준다. 제3곡 III. Allegretto 에서는 라틴아메리카의 민속선율을 차용한 주제선율이 쓰였는데 고정적인 하나의 주제와 변주 형식을 지닌 또 다른 주제가 주고 받으며 서정적인 분위기를 나타낸다. 제4곡 Ⅳ. Allegro molto는 시골에서 컨트리 음악과 함께 하는 헛간춤곡(barn dance)을 연상케 하는 곡으로 하나의 동기(motive)를 가지고 확대, 변형, 반복을 하며 다이내믹 의 대조와 함께 빠른 템포와 리듬으로 분위기를 묘사한다.;In the early twentieth century, a chaotic time due to several wars, the center of music gradually moved from Europe which was central until nineteenth century to US. The music of the early twentieth century was expressed into various styles such as nationalism, neo-romanticism, neo-classicism, serialism, and experimentalism. Influenced by these various styles of music coexisting, American music became to be expressed in more plentiful and various forms. Of the neo-romantic composers who pursued harmonic and lyrical melody, Samuel Barber(1910-1981) is the representative composer of the late twentieth century. He composed the music influenced by twelve-tone technique or experimental technique, foundation of which lies in the classical form, and composed the music of his own which is lyrical and abundant in timbre, also displaying American distinctive music features such as Jazz, tunes of folk music, and psalm. <Excursion op.20>, Samuel Barber’s one of the most representative piano pieces shows his composing style best. In I. Un poco allegro, there is ostinato bass repetitive and composed with boogie-woogie style. In II. slow blues tempo is the only slow tempo of all the four movements, and it has harmonic, melody, and rhythm which are distinctive characteristics of blues music. III. Allegretto derived from timbre of folk music, develops with two melodies in the form of variations. IV. Allegro molto vividly expresses dynamic contrasts, quick tempo and rhythm, reminding us of barn dance with the country music. <Excursion op.20> shows romantic lyricism with both American features and modern features and it is composed with conservative and traditional composing techniques.
