영화의 내러티브 구성기법을 적용한 메모리얼(Memorial) 공간디자인 연구

Abstract

오래된 역사를 가지고 있거나 역사적 기록이 잘 보관 된 사회에는 특정한 역사적 사건을 기억하기 위한 '기념의 산실' 로 서 의 메모리 얼(Memorial)이 존재한다. 메모리 얼은 과거를 거쳐 현재에도 생성되고 있으며, 그 곳에서는 역사적 사실이 지속적으로 연결되어져 다양한 형태의 보존에 대한 의지와 연구적 가치, 상징으로 사회와 대면하고 있다. 그러나 시간이 지날수록 메모리 얼의 역할은 점점 상징을 잃어가고 또한, 역사에 대한 우리의 기억은 차차 희미해져 우리가 경험할 수 있는 역사의 깊이는 얕아지고 있다. 지금 이 순간에도 과거의 역사는 다양한 형태에 담겨 순환되고 있지만, 실제로 우리는 그 끊임없는 생산과 재생산의 반복 속에서 어떠한 역사적 사실을 기억해 내고 있는 것일까? 현재의 메모리 얼은 단순히 이미지를 통해 과거를 재현하고, 기억하고 있는 것에 큰 영향을 미치지 못한 채 시간이 흐를수록 지역의 흉물이 되거나, 낡고 구시대적인 모습으로 남아 아쉬움을 주고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 영화의 내러티브 구성기법을 대입한 메모리 얼 공간을 통해 관람자로 하여금 일상에서 잊고 있던 역사적 기억과 대면하게 하여 그에 대한 역사적 문제의식을 가지도록 동기를 부여하고 그것이 보여주고자 하는 상징성을 획득하게 하는 것에 의의가 있다. 또, 현재 메모리 얼 공간이 가지고 있는 구성적 문제점에 대해 정확히 인식을 하고 ‘기억해야 할 가치가 있는 것들’을 가장 합리적인 방법으로 관람객에게 전달 할 수 있는 공간 요소를 추출해 내는 것이 주된 논문의 내용이다. 본 연구는 다음과 같은 과정으로 진행되었다. 제 1장에서는 현재 메모리 얼의 현황에 대한 문제인식을 바탕으로 한 전반적인 연구의 배경과 환경 디자인적 관점의 연구 목적을 제시하고, 연구의 범위와 연구과정의 체계를 서술하였다. 제 2장에서는 상위개념인 내러티브를 정의하고, 메모리 얼에 대한 개념 및 필요성을 정리하였다. 또한 영화 내러티브 구성 공간에 대해 분석하고, 그에 따른 공간 이미지를 분석하였다. 제 3장에서는 실제 사례 분석을 통해 메모리 얼 공간의 내러티브 성 확립 방안의 종합적 틀을 도출하였다. 제 4장에서는 기존 메모리 얼의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 실제 적용 가능한 디자인 적용 안을 도출하고 개선점에 대해 평가하였다. 제 5장에서는 앞선 논의들을 정리하고, 메모리 얼 공간 디자인 적용 안의 기대효과와 연구의 의의를 밝혔다. 본 연구를 통해 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 연구를 통해 우리는 과거에서부터 시작되어 인류의 역사가 지속되는 순간까지 연결되어 질 수도 있는 역사적 기억을 그저 '기억할 만한 가치가 있는 것'으로 판단하기보다, 구체적으로 인지할 필요가 있다는 것을 알게 되었고, 그 구체적 방법으로 영화의 내러티브 구조가 가지고 있는 표현기법을 공간에 대입한 결과, 그 방법이 공간과 관람자의 매개 역할을 하여 관람자들에게 상징성을 인지시키는 표현 수단이 될 수 있음을 알게 되었다. 이를 통해 상징성을 자연스럽게 습득할 수 있는 공간을 활용한 다양한 가치를 인식하고, 문화적 가치를 바라보는 새로운 관점을 제시함으로써 연구의 필요성을 인지하게 되었고, 또한 기존 메모리 얼 공간의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 총체적인 관점의 디자인적 접근이 필요하며, 앞으로 메모리 얼 공간이 현재보다 더 적극적인 역사적 기억의 장소가 될 수 있는 디자인 적용 안을 제시하였다는데 연구의 의의를 가질 수 있다. 본 연구를 통해 주체의 시각을 지배하는 범람하는 상업화된 상징적 이미지들로부터 메모리 얼 공간이 새로운 역사 인식의 가능성을 찾을 수 있는 방법에 대한 연구에 일익을 담당하기를 기대하는 바이다.;There is usually a memorial in society that has a long history or well-kept historical archives, which is constructed in commemoration of a specific historical fact. A lot of memorials have already been built or are under construction to keep providing historical facts that are symbols of the past and worth researching. However, the symbolic significance of memorials is gradually on the wane with the lapse of time, and our recollection of the past history are increasingly being vague, which results in making us learn less profound lessons from history. Basically, history repeats itself, and the question is what historical facts we remember amid the repetitive production and reproduction of history. It's a shame that memorials are reduced to outdated, old-fashioned and ugly buildings over time without having a great impact on the reproduction and memory of the past. The purpose of this study was to apply a cinematic narrative construction technique to the spatial design of a memorial in an effort to motivate visitors to confront forgotten historical facts to take history seriously. And it's additionally meant to find out the structural problems with memorial spaces and to select the kinds of spatial elements that could successfully stimulate them to keep memorable things in mind. Chapter 1 discussed the problems with the state of memorials, the overall background of this study and the purpose of the study related to environmental design. And the scope and process of the study were described. Chapter 2 made a definition of narrative, which was a superordinate concept, and discussed the concept and necessity of a memorial. A cinematic space of narrative construction was analyzed, and what image it could produce was analyzed as well. Chapter 3 made a case analysis to generate a framework of the narrative construction of a memorial space. Chapter 4 mapped out a feasible draft of design to iron out problems with existing memorials, and suggested what improvements should be made. Chapter 5 pieced together what's discussed in the previous chapters, and described the expected effects of the spatial design draft of a memorial and the significance of the study. The findings of the study were as follows: A historical memory from the past that may last as far as the history of mankind continues shouldn't merely be viewed as something memorable, and it's needed to take a deeper look at it in more detail, instead. As a result of applying a cinematic narrative construction technique to the spatial design of a memorial, it's found that this method could serve to mediate the relationship between the space and visitors to let them perceive the symbolicity of the space. A space whose symbolicity is naturally represented is of great value, and then visitors will be able to see cultural values in a new light. To resolve the problems with existing memorial spaces, a holistic approach should be taken to the spatial design of a memorial. This study is meaningful in that it proposed a design plan to boost the utility of memorial spaces as places of historical memory. This study is expected to pave the way for future research efforts on how memorial spaces could contribute to opening a new chapter for historical awareness instead of simply being inundated with lots of commercialized symbolic images.
