위씨오세삼난현행록 연구

Abstract

본고는 19세기를 중심으로 향유된 국문 장편소설 <위 씨 오세 삼 난 현행 록>을 대상으로 작품의 내용과 형식에서 나타나는 독특한 양상을 살펴 그 안에 담긴 의미를 밝히고 이를 통해 작품의 소설사적 위상을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본고의 Ⅱ장에서는 < 위 씨 오세 삼 난 현행 록 >의 구조를 분석하였다. 소설의 ‘구조’를 내용과 형식을 포함하는 개념으로 이해한다면, 이 작품은 내용과 형식이 상호관련성을 갖는 구조라 할 수 있다. 즉 이 작품은 당위와 현상의 불일치로 인해 고통 당하는 주변화된 개인의 모습을 제시하여 이러한 부정적인 현실을 비판하되, 이러한 현실을 적극적으로 비판하고 공격하기보다는 그러한 현실을 운명적으로 받아들이고 개인적인 가치를 추구하는 내용을 담고 있다. 그런데 이러한 작품의 내용은 부정적 현실 속에서 고통 받는 소외된 개인의 이야기를 에피소드 식으로 반복 설정하여 객관적으로 서술하는 형식을 통해 보다 효과적으로 전달되고 있다. 또한 본고의 Ⅲ장에서는 < 위 씨 오세 삼 난 현행 록 >의 서술방식을 서사적 서술과 비서사적 서술로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이 작품은 사건과 인물에 관계된 서사적 부분에서 ‘말’을 아끼고 절제하는데, 이렇게 절제된 서사적 서술에서는 모호한 말하기 서술과 우회적 보여주기 서술을 통해 중심 층의 우 행과 주변 층의 욕망을 간접적으로 드러낸다. 또한 이 작품은 비서사적 부분에서 ‘말’을 늘리고 있는데, 이렇게 확대된 비서사적 서술에서는 궁중 교양 서를 활용하거나 신하와 궁인 같은 하층 인에 중심을 두어 서술하고 있다. 따라서 비서사적 서술은 이 작품이 궁중과 관련성이 있음을 드러내고, 주변화된 하층 인을 의미화 시키고 있다고 할 수 있다. 이상에서 살펴본 바를 통해 Ⅳ장에서는 < 위 씨 오세 삼 난 현행 록 >의 작가의식과 소설사적 의의를 살펴보았다. 이 작품의 작가는 주변화된 개인에게 관심을 보이고 중심부를 지향하며, 모순된 현실을 소극적으로 비판하고 현실을 체념적으로 받아들이는 태도를 보인다. 이러한 작가의식은 절대권력의 주변에 자리한 궁녀들의 생활과 밀접한 관련을 갖는다. 또한 일반 국문 장편소설이 ‘가문’을 중심으로 ‘집단적 주체’의 이야기들을 담아냈다면 이 작품은 ‘개인’을 중심으로 ‘개인적 주체’의 이야기를 담아냈다는 점에서 의의가 있고, ‘여성적 글쓰기(ecriture feminine)’의 성격을 보이는 궁중소설이라는 점 역시 의의라 할 수 있다.;This study set out to investigate the unique content and form styles of Wuissiosesamnanhyeonhaengrok, a novel written in Korean and enjoyed in the 19th century, to shed light onto its meanings, and to examine its status in the novel history. Chapter II analyzed the novel's structure. Considering that "structure" contains content and form, the novel is in a structure of correlativity between content and form. While it criticizes the negative reality by presenting marginalized individuals who suffer from the disagreement between what should be and what is, it accepts the reality as it is and pursues personal values rather than actively criticizing and attacking the reality. The content is delivered more effectively by repeating the episodes of alienated individuals who suffer in the negative reality instead of describing them objectively. Chapter III divided the novel's description methods into narrative and non-narrative description. It saves and abstains from "words" in the narrative parts related to events and characters. The controlled narrative description indirectly reveals the folly of the centralized and the desire of the marginalized through ambiguous speaking and periphrastic showing description. It then extends "words" in the non-narrative parts. The extended non-narrative description either uses court educational books or focuses on the lower class such as servants and court ladies. Thus it is apparent that non-narrative description reveals the connections between the novel and the royal court and gives meanings to the marginalized lower class. Chapter IV examined the writer's consciousness in the novel and its status in the novel history. The writer shows interest in marginalized individuals, runs towards the central point, passively criticizes the contradicting reality, and succumbs to the reality. The writer's consciousness with those characteristics is closely related to the life of court ladies situated in the margin of the absolute power. While general novels written in Korean tell the stories of "collective subjects" around "families," the work tells the stories of "individual subjects" around "individuals," in which its significance lies. It also claims its significance in that it is a court novel of "ecriture feminine."
