Hugo Wolf의 Eichendorff가곡집 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 19세기 후기 낭만주의 시대의 대표적인 독일 작곡가 휴고 볼프(Hugo Wolf, 1860~1903)의「아이헨도르프 가곡집」(Eichendorff Liederbuch)가운데 인물을 제목으로 한 5개의 작품을 분석하였다. 볼프는 슈베르트(Franz Schubert, 1729-1828), 슈만(Robert Schumann, 1810-1856), 브람스(Johannes Brahms, 1833-1897)로 이어 지는 독일 가곡의 전통을 계승하였으며, 시와 음악의 융합을 통한 자신만의 독창성으로 독일 예술 가곡을 최고 수준까지 올려놓은 작곡가이다. 볼프는 시문학에 조예가 깊었으며 가사를 세밀하게 음악으로 표현 하는데 탁월한 능력을 지닌 작곡가이다. 볼프는 바그너(Richard Wagner, 1813-1883)의 영향을 많이 받은 작곡가로, 그의 가곡에는 풍부한 화성 진행과 빈번한 조바꿈 그리고 반음계의 섬세한 선율 등이 나타난다. 또한 볼프는 시의 아름다움과 자연스러움을 그대로 살리고자 노력하였고 이에 따른 방법으로 가사의 억양과 뜻에 따라 선율의 움직임을 보이는 낭창 법을 사용하였다. 아이헨도르프(Joseph von Eichendorff, 1788-1857)는 독일 낭만주의를 대표하는 시인이다. 그의 작품은 자연과 인물의 모습을 직설적인 시어를 사용하여 사실주의적으로 묘사한다. 그의 시는 순수한 자연 속에 나타난 인간의 모습을 기독교적 신앙관을 바탕으로 그려내고 있다. 볼프는 이 낭만주의 시들을 음악적으로 내면화시켜 「아이헨도르프 가곡집」으로 승화시켰다. 「아이헨도르프 가곡집」에는 인물을 제목으로 한 11개의 작품이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이들 중 시의 주인공들이 모두 평범하고 소박하며 주인공들의 고뇌와 성격, 그리고 처한 상황 등의 생활감정을 그대로 반영한 5곡을 선정하였다. 본 논문에서 다루게 될 5개의 가곡은 「친구」(Der Freund),「악사」(Der Musikant),「병사Ⅱ」(Der SoldatⅡ), 「집시 여인」(Die zigeunerin),「중세의 학생」(Der Scholar)이다. 위의 5곡에 등장하는 인물들의 심리와 상황을 볼프가 어떻게 음악적으로 표현했는지 대하여 알아보는 것은 볼프의 가곡을 연구하는데 흥미로운 주제가 될 것이다. 5곡의 작품을 분석하여 얻은 공통점은 다음과 같다. 먼저 5곡 모두 50마디 내외의 비교적 짧은 길이로 구성되며 형식적으로는 시에 의해서 2부분 또는 3부분 형식을 나타낸다. 시의 내용면에서 살펴볼 때「집시 여인」을 제외한 나머지 4곡은 시의 주인공이 모두 남성으로서 남성을 위한 가곡으로 불려진다. 5곡의 시에 등장하는 인물들은 모두 평범하고 소박한 사람들로서 각 시에서는 그들이 처한 상황과 심리를 사실주의적으로 묘사하고 있다. 음악적인 요소에서 살펴보면 볼프는 5곡에서 다양한 작곡기법-반음계적 선율 진행, 전조의 사용, 변화화음과 불협화음, 지시어의 사용, 섬세한 셈 여림의 변화-을 사용하여 시에 등장하는 인물들의 상황과 심리를 절묘하게 나타내고 있다. 본 논문이 볼프의 「아이헨도르프 가곡집」중 인물을 제목으로 한 가곡에 대해 이해를 높이고, 이를 연주하는 분들의 해석과 연주에 도움이 되었으면 하는 바램이다.;This paper studies 5 songs subject to ordinary person among the Eichendorff Lieder Buch by Hugo Wolf who is a brilliant composer of representatives in the 19th century German music. Through the influence of Wagner (Richard Wagner, 1813 ~ 1883), Franz Schubert (Franz Schubert 1729 ~ 1828), Schumann (Robert Schumann 1810 ~ 1856), and Brahms (Johannes Brahms 1833 ~ 1897), Wolf succeed to the tradition of Lied and put on his own creativity to the highest level through the fusion of poetry and music. Wolf was known for a great composer as well as an outstanding poet to handle lyrics very well. Wolf's lied much affected by Wagner's appeared amounts of rich harmonies and dynamic rhythms, vocal techniques, and chromatic scales. Furthermore, Wolf made effort on reviving on the nature of beautiful poems, So He used with declamation, the aspect of the musical setting of a text that corresponds to the purely sonorous quality of the text itself. Eichendorff was one of the renowned poets in the German romantic period. His poems have characterized using hard-hitting poetic descriptions concerning the personal, humorous, and romantic realism. His poems appeared in the pure nature of human being on the basis of Christian faith. Wolf internalized these romantic musical poems and then sublimated into the Eichendorff Lieder Buch. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the 5 songs, 「Der Freund」,「Der Musikant」,「Der Soldat Ⅱ」,「Die Zigeunerin」,「Der Scholar 」in the Eichendorff Lieder Buch. I choose five songs among the 11 songs which are delegated on alive emotion and personality and the literally harmonious characters. These poems contain the happiness and sadness of a human subject to the ordinary people. This is a very interesting topic to examine how to express musically. My results obtained through analysis of five lied are as follows. First, five songs are composed of relatively short length of approximately 50 measures. Formally, five songs are divided by the two parts or three parts. Except for the 「Die Zigeunerin」, In term of contents, 4 songs are not only song for man but also character in men. Main character in the each song is very ordinary and humble, Looking at the musical elements, Wolf used a variety of musical techniques, modulation, altered chords, dissonant chords, continuous modification, chromatic scales, to express lots of the contents and format of various lyrics, emotions, and images effectively. I think that this study will give a lot of help concerning studying the poetry and musical relevance, and a great resource for musicians.
