최적성이론에 따른 중국어에서의 영어 차용어 음운 분석

Abstract

본 논문은 중국어 내에서 사용되고 있는 영어 차용어의 음운 분석을 목적으로 한다. 분석 대상은 19세기 이후에 유입되어 현 시점에서 활발하게 사용되고 있는 일반 명사를 비롯하여 상호와 상품명을 포함하는 음역어이다. 근원 언어는 영어에 한정한다. 분석은 Prince and Smolensky(1993)와 McCarthy and Prince(1993)가 처음으로 주창한 최적성이론의 틀 안에서 이루어진다. 근원 언어를 차용하여 중국어로 만들기 위해서는 다음의 두 과정을 거쳐야 한다. 첫째, 근원 언어의 음절 구조를 중국어의 음절 구조에 맞도록 바꾸어야 한다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 중국어에서 사용되는 영어 차용어의 음절 구조를 분석하였다. 최적성이론을 사용한 분석의 결과물로 차용어 음절 구조 제약 위계를 *COMPLEX/CODA-CON ≫ MAX-IO(C1) ≫ MAX-IO(ST)/MAX-IO(O) ≫ MinWd ≫ MAX-IO ≫ DEP-IO 와 같이 도출해내었다. 둘째, 근원 언어의 음소를 중국어의 음소로 바꾸어야 한다. 이를 위해 본 논문에서는 중국어에서 사용되는 영어 차용어의 음소 수용 양상을 분석했다. 이 분석 또한 최적성이론의 틀 안에서 이루어졌으며, 영어의 개별 음소가 중국어의 특정 음소로 수용되었다는 표면적 제시를 넘어서 음운론적 동기를 설명했다. 음소 수용은 대체적으로 규칙성이 발견되지만, 한자의 특성과 원어민 화자의 인지적 특성을 고려한 종합적인 이해가 필요하다. 본 논문의 의의는 최적성이론을 통해 이전까지 연구되지 않았던 차용어 음운 현상에 대한 음운론적 동기를 직접적으로 보여주었다는 데에 있다.;This thesis examines adaptations of syllable structure and consonantal substitution patterns of English loanwords that are borrowed into Mandarin Chinese. The subject for analysis is phonemic loans which includes common nouns that are introduced after the 19th century and being used actively until now as well as firm names and product names. The source language is limited only to the English language. The analysis is accomplished within the framework of Optimality Theory which is firstly suggested by Prince & Smolensky(1993) and McCarthy & Prince(1993). The following two steps are needed in order to adapt source language enter into Mandarin Chinese. First, the syllable structure of English needs to be adjusted to Chinese syllable structure. Therefore, this study analyzes the syllable structure of English loanwords in Mandarin Chinese. I draw the syllable structure constraint ranking of *COMPLEX/CODA-CON ≫ MAX-IO(C1) ≫ MAX-IO(ST)/MAX-IO(O) ≫ MinWd ≫ MAX-IO ≫ DEP-IO as the outcome. Second, the phoneme of English must be transferred to the phoneme of Mandarin Chinese. For this, I analyze the pattern of phoneme substitution that English words undergo when borrowed into Chinese. This work is also completed within the Optimality Theoretic framework. This explains that individual phoneme in English is adapted to specific phoneme in Mandarin Chinese with phonological motive beyond superficial presentation. Even though regularities are found in phoneme substitution pattern in general, comprehensive understanding considering the special quality of Chinese character and characteristics of the native speaker's perception are still needed. The contribution of this thesis is in directly bringing up phonological motives on loanword phonology which has not been studied within the Optimality Theoretic framework before.
