心身理論에서의 方法과 論理 問題

Abstract

본 논문을 현대 심리철학의 중심적인 문제인 심신관계 문제를 다루고 있다. 최근 심리철학의 논의들은 물리주의적 입장에서 심신관계를 설명하기 위해 다양한 방법과 논리의 적용 문제를 제기해 왔다. 어떤 문제를 과학적으로 해결하는 가장 바람직한 방법은 그 문제에 대해 역사적으로 접근하는 것이다. 본 논문은 심신문제에 대한 역사적인 접근방법이 심리철학의 본질적인 문제를 해명해 줄 것으로 보고, 심신이론들에 일관되게 나타나는 근본적인 문제인 방법과 논리의 문제를 중심으로 그 발전 과정을 고찰하고 있다. 심신문제는 단순히 마음이나 몸에 관한 문제가 아니다. 그것은 물리적인 것과 심리적인 것 전반에 관한 문제이며, 보다 근본적으로는 존재하는 모든 것과 관련하여 의식을 가진 주관이 대상세계에 어떻게 관계되며 또 어떻게 그것을 인식하는가를 묻는 문제인 것이다. 이러한 문제는 전통 형이상학이나 인식론에서도 꾸준히 제기되어 온 물음이었다. 이 물음들에 대한 대답으로서 다양한 이론들이 주장된 것은 무엇보다도 심리현상이 갖는 특성들을 어떻게 설명해야 하는가의 문제 때문이었다. '어떻게'라는 말은 곧 방법을 의미하며, '설명'이라는 것은 그 원인을 규명하고자 하는 논리를 의미한다. 심신이론에 있어서 서로 상반되는 듯이 보이는 다양한 이론들이 주장됨은 바로 이러한 방법과 논리의 차이에서 비롯되는 것이다. 그러므로 방법과 논리를 중심으로 심신문제에 관한 설명 이론들을 개관해 보는 일은 철학의 근원적인 문제를 통찰하여 새로운 인식의 가능성을 모색하고자 하는 시도라고 할 수 있는 것이다. 이러한 의도하에 구성된 본 논문은 철학 내에서 심신문제의 위치를 규명하는 동시에 그것이 다른 과학 분야들에 대해 갖는 중요성을 확인해 주리라 본다.;This thesis deals with the problem of mind-body relation which is a central theme of the modern philosophy of mind. Current discussions in the philosophy of mind have brought toward the various methods and logical applications in order to explain the mind-body relation within the physicalistic view. The most efficient way to make a certain problem clear is to approach to it historically. This paper also makes it clear the fundamental problems in the philosophy of mind through a historical review on the mind-body problems and examines a progress of the mind-body theories in the consideration of the method and the logic, the basic problems in these theories. The mind-body problem is not merely a problem about the mind or the body. It is a problem concerning the whole physical and psychological things. And in more basical point, in the relation to the all things that exist, it is a problem about how the conscious individuals relate with the objects in the world and how they recognize these objects. These problems have also been brought continuously in the traditional metaphysics and the epistemology. Many kinds of theories were insisted as the answers to these questions, and that is because the theories did not agree on how they explain the characters mental phenomena have.‘How’ means the method and the ‘explanation’ means the logic searching after the causes. The various kinds of theories which seem to be contrary result from the differences of the method and logic. Thus the work of generating some explanatory theories in the consideration of the method and the logic is an attempt to have possibilities of new knowledge by means of penetrating the fundamental problems of philosophy. This thesis was composed under such aims, then it will not only find the position of the mind-body problems in the philosophy but will confirm its importance against the other parts of all sciences.
