국민학교 도서관의 기능에 대한 교사, 아동, 학부모의 인식조사

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 학교도서관의 기능이 오늘날 우리 나라 초등학교 현장에서 어느정도 수행되고 있으며 앞으로 어떻게 수행되어야 하는가에 대한 교사, 아동, 학부모의 인식을 조사·분석하여 우리나라 초등학교 도서관의 바람직한 개선방향을 제시하는데 있다. 본 연구의 구체적인 연구문제는 다음과 같다. 1. 초등학교 교사들이 인식하는 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 현황과 기대수준은 어떠한가? 1.1 초등학교 교사들이 인식하는 학교도서관의 교육적 기능에 대한 현황과 기대수준은 무엇이며 그 차이는 어떠한가? 1.2 초등학교 교사들이 인식하는 학교도서관의 조직·운영 기능에 대한 현황과 기대수준은 무엇이며 그 차이는 어떠한가? 2. 초등학교 아동들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식은 어떠한가? 3. 초등학교 학부모들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식은 어떠한가? 4. 초등학교 교사들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식과 초등학교 아동들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식에 차이가 있는가? 5. 초등학교 교사들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식과 초등학교 학부모들의 학교도서관의 기능에 대한 인식에 차이가 있는가? 본 연구를 위하여 사용한 조사도구는 초등학교 도서관의 기능에 관한 설문지이며 교사를 위한 설문지, 아동을 위한 설문지, 학부모를 위한 설문지등의 세종류로 구성되어 있다. 조사대상은 서울시내 28개 초등학교의 교사 232명, 아동 221명, 학부모 260명이며, 수집된 자료를 분석하기 위하여 평균, 표준편차, t-검증, 빈도, 백분율을 사용하였다. 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 초등학교 교사들은 현재 초등학교 상황에서 학교도서관의 기능이 충분히 발휘되지 못하고 있다고 인식하고 있다. 아동을 위한 학습지원 기능, 교사를 위한 교수지원 기능, 지역사회를 위한 봉사기능 등의 학교도서관의 교육적 기능과 조직 운영기능에 대한 현황이 모두 낮게 평가되었고, 특히 교사를 위한 교수지원 기능과 지역사회를 위한 봉사기능에 대해서는 매우 낮은 평가를 내리고 있다. 반면, 학교도서관 기능에 대한 기대는 높게 측정되었으며 그 중에서도 아동을 위한 학습지원 기능에 대한 기대는 매우 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 초등학교 아동들은 학교도서관의 필요성을 대부분(88.2%) 인식하고 있어 학교도서관에 대한 요구가 높다고 나타났다. 그러나 아동들은 학교도서관에 소장된 장서와 자료에 대해서는 부족함을 느끼고 있으며 또한 도서관 이용법 지도나 독서지도등에 대해서도 강한 요구를 보이고 있다. 셋째, 학부모들은 학교도서관의 필요성을 절실히 느끼고 있으며 지역주민에 대한 도서대출의 필요성, 학교도서관의 지역사회 문화센타로서의 전망에 대하여 높은 기대를 가지고 있음이 나타났다. 또한 대부분의 학부모들이 학교도서관의 발전을 위하여 도서나 교구를 기증할 의사가 있고 학교도서관 운영회의 구성에 대해서도 높은 관심을 나타내었다. 넷째, 교사와 아동은 현재 초등학교 도서관이 아동을 위한 교육적 기능면에서 그 역할을 충분히 발휘하지 못하고 있다고 인식하고 있다. 특히 아동을 위한 도서활용에 대한 지도의 항목에 대해서는 아동이 교사보다 낮은 점수를 주고 있어 이에 대한 아동의 요구가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 다섯째, 초등학교 도서관의 교육적 기능에 대한 교사의 기대수준과 학부모의 기대수준간에 차이가 있음이 나타났다. 학부모는 교사보다 더 강하게 학교도서관이 지역사회와 학부모에게 개방되어야 한다고 인식하고 있다. 학부모들은 도서 또는 자료 목록의 배부나 자료의 개방대출에 대하여 높은 요구를 나타내었다. 종합하면, 초등학교 교사, 아동, 학부모의 학교도서관에 대한 기대는 매우 높게 나타났으나 학교도서관의 목적을 달성하기 위한 제반기능의 수행상황은 미흡한 편이어서 교사, 아동, 학부모들은 이의 개선을 강력하게 요구하는 반응을 보이고 있다.;The purpose of this study is to present how the school library is being used and to proposed the sound direction of the elementary school library by researching the perception of teachers, students and parents. The followings are the contents of this study. 1. What are the current situation and expected function of elementary school library functions perceived by teachers? 1.1 What are the current situation, expectation and difference of elementary school library at the educational function perceived by teachers? 1.2 What are the current situation, expectation and difference of elementary school library at the management & operation perceived by teachers? 2. What is the perceived fuction of elementary school library by students? 3. What is the perceived function of elementary school library by parents? 4. Are there any differences of perception on the school library functions between teachers and students of elementary school? 5. Are there any differences of perception on the school library functions between teachers and parents of elementary school? For this study, three different types of questionnaire are used for teachers, students and parents on the function of school library. This study had surveyed 232 teachers, 221 students and 260 parents from 28 elementary schools and result is analyzed by average and standard deviation, t-test, frequency and percentile. The summary of observation is as follows. First, elementary school library system is not very efficent enough. This study shows that the educational, arid the research & operational function of elementary school library, such as tutorial function far students, public function for community and teaching-aid function for teachers have been reached low in its evaluation. On the other hand, the expectation on the function of the elementary school library has evaluated high, especially for tutorial function of students. Second, most of students(88%) understand the necessity of school library, which leads the high demand of school library. But students understand the shortage of books and data in the library, while strongly demanding on the assistance of the proper use of library and reading skills. Third, parents highly perceived the need of library and lending service also fully expected to transfer library to culture center for community in near future. Most of parents have intention to donate books and teaching tools in order to develope school library. Also they are very much intersted in organizing the management for the proper library operation. Forth, teachers and students perceived that current elementary library system does not play an important role in the aspect of educational function. Especially, regarding the guiding matter of book utilization for the student, student give lower grade than teachers implying they strongly demand more on this matter. Fifth, this study shows that there are expectational discrepancy for the educational function of elementary school library between teachers and parents. Parents seemed to more strongly demand than teachers to open the school library to the public. They dernand school library to distribute the content of books and data, and to open the lending service of those materials. As a result, even if elementary school. teachers, students and parents possess high expectations on the school library, current general performing circumstances are not enough to achive the fundamental purpose of school library. All of them show strong desires to reform current school library systems.
