소리, 문자, 움직임의 의미에 관한 실험적 작품연구

Abstract

시청각 매체의 발달 및 인터넷의 등장으로 인터랙티브가 가능해지면서 키네틱 타이포그래피의 범위는 더욱 확대되었고 보다 다양한 표현이 가능하게 되었다. 이제 타이포그래피는 더 이상 언어화된 관념적 정보에 국한된 정적 요소로서가 아니라 영상 및 음향까지를 아우르는 동적이고 복합적인 키네틱 타이포그래피로 발전하고 있다. 멀티미디어의 환경에서 가장 두드러진 특징은 정지 화상 안에 시간과 공간, 그리고 소리를 접목하여 특정한 시간 안에 사용자의 시각과 청각을 통해 빠르고 쉽게 정보를 습득할 수 있게 하는 것이다. 이것은 정보 전달에 있어 효율적으로 커뮤니케이션 할 수 있는 방법이다. 이에 따라 가독성 위주의 질서 정연하고 합리적인 방식을 벗어나, 새로운 뉴미디어 환경에서 개인의 감성이 살아있는 표현위주의 실험적인 타이포그래피가 중요한 영역을 차지하고 있다. 키네틱 타이포그래피는 소리와 영상이 가미된 디지털 환경에 부합되는 부분으로 음악이나 시와 같은 감성언어를 표현하거나 청각 장애인의 문화영역을 더욱 넓힐 수 있는 효과적 매체로 자리잡을 것이다. 본 연구는 시각적 요소에 청각적 요소인 소리를 사용하게 되면 정보를 전달받는 사람의 동기나 흥미를 유발시켜 기존의 정보를 더욱 효과적으로 전달 할 수 있다는 사실과, 청각에 호소하는 음악에 시각이란 보조기능을 동원해 귀로만 듣는 음악을 눈으로도 즐기게끔 하여 청각적으로 표현하기에는 모자랐던 음악의 메시지를 시각적으로 담아낼 수 있다는 가능성에 하에, 키네틱 타이포그래피가 가진 의미에 관심을 가지고 출발하게 되었다. 먼저 이론적 고찰을 통해 키네틱의 의미와 키네틱 타이포그래피의 개념, 방식, 요소, 특징을 알아보고, 기존의 음악에 근거해 표현된 키네틱 타이포그래피 작품 사례를 분석한다. 앞서 고찰한 이론적 배경과 분석을 통해 작품 창작을 함에 있어 먼저 주제 음악은 메시지 중심적 음악과 리듬 중심적 음악 두 곡을 선택하게 된다. 선택한 곡은 뮤직비디오와 가사, 음악적 분석을 통해 선택 곡에 대한 해석과정을 거쳐, 한 곡당 두 갈래로 나누어 총 4개의 뮤직비디오 형식 작품으로 구현한다. 각 곡당 문자(가사)의 의미가 주 요소인 작품, 소리(음악)의 연상이 주 요소인 작품으로 제작하여 음악 형태에 따른 해석 방법의 차이를 비교해본다. 키네틱 타이포그래피의 요소와 특성을 이용하여 두 가지 해석방식으로 나누어 시각화 해 봄으로서, 키네틱 타이포그래피의 활용이 효율적인 정보전달과 사운드 전달의 효과를 얻을 수 있는 시각전달 방법이 되는데 문제 해결에 보탬이 되어줄 것으로 기대해본다;The application extent of kinetic typography has been extended by development of audiovisual medium and the Internet. Now typography is in evolution becoming dynamic, complex kinetic typography put together image and sound. Accordingly, in new media environment, experimental typography which can express individual’s emotion is getting more important. The most notable characteristic of kinetic typography in multimedia environment is to get people obtain information through the sense of sight and hearing in particular time grafting together time, space and sound inside still pictures. This can be method to communicate efficiently in information transmission. Kinetic typography is expected to be an effective medium which can express sensitive writing such as lyrics of music or poem and can more widen culture area of deaf people. This study was begun with the meaning of kinetic typography and following facts; firstly, visual information is effectively transmitted when it is using aural elements, because it is more appealing by provoking person's motive or interest. Secondly, it is possible that people can enjoy music by their sense of hearing when music carries visual images. In this respect, this study investigates theological background of kinetic typography such as meaning of kinetic and concept, tradition, element, and characteristic of kinetic typography. And it analyzes cases which are expressed based on existent music. Secondly, to create work based on above theological analysis, it takes two songs: message central music and rhythm central music. To apply these chosen songs to music video, firstly, it analyzes the songs by music video, lyrics, and genre study. And it creates two music videos per a song. One is focused on the meaning of lyrics, the other one is focused on sound(rhythm) to compare the differences the way of applying kinetic typography.
