Microfinance is emerging as a momentous instrument for poverty alleviation in the developing countries. Women’s empowerment has been at the core of the campaign of poverty alleviation through microcredit. The purpose for this empowerment it to improve women’s ability to influence and make decision, increased self confidence, better status and role in household and in the community at large. Tanzanian government has taken deliberate efforts to ensure that women are empowered both socially and economically. Thus, it has made significant reforms in financial institutes and other laws that seem to undermine women. In paradox, despite the reforms introduced by the government and the MFIs, still women enterprises are predominantly on the sequence of low productivity, low market and unreliable business sources. This has caused difficulties for women to repay their micro loans and therefore ending up in worst economical situations due to the demand of their lenders. For some women microcredit has been definitely brought limited success. This study aims to analyze some factors which hinder women in microcredit to expand from micro enterprises to medium or formal enterprises. Based on the interview conducted from 36 women entrepreneurs; the author will discuss how formalization procedures, high taxation, and lack of business premises hinders the effectiveness of microcredit in Tanzania. Also, the study will also confer how gender related responsibilities such as taking care of children and other domestic chores have affected women entrepreneurs in Tanzania. Conclusively, the author will discuss vital propositions for improving the efficiency of microcredit in women’s empowerment.-
