클리포드 스틸의 회화를 응용한 니트웨어 디자인 연구

Abstract

급변하는 현대 사회에서 인간의 의지를 표현할 수 있는 조형 활동이 여러 분야에서 끊 임없이 이어지고 있는 가운데 패션에서도 두각을 보이고 있다. 이러한 현상에서 볼 때 개성을 표현할 수 있는 다양한 소재개발과 표현기법을 활용하여 보다 차별화되고 독창적인 아이디어 창출을 위한 노력이 필요하다. 패션 산업으로서 무한한 잠재력을 가진 니트웨어가 단순히 기능성, 실용성만이 아 니라 독창적인 형태로 발전되어가고 있으며 현대적이고 예술적인 디자인 개념이 도입되면서 점점 더 고급화, 다양화 되어가고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 추상 표현주의 작가 클리포드 스틸의 회화를 분석하고 강렬한 색과 거친 붓터치, 물감이 흐르는 듯한 조형미를 작품의 모티브로 도입하였다. 블리스터 자카드 조직을 이용하여 평편한 질감과 부풀어 오르는 질감의 대비를 극대화하고 누노펠트를 사용하여, 풍부한 색채의 회화적 표현을 강조함으로써 이를 통하여 효과적인 문양과 풍부한 질감을 지닌 독특한 자카드 니트웨어 디자인을 제작하고자 하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 회화의 예술성과 기능성을 겸비한 독특한 니트 웨어 디자인을 창출하여 자카드 니트 웨어의 표현영역을 확대하는데 있다. 연구의 내용및 방법은 국내외 문헌과, 간행물, 선행 연구등을 바탕으로 하여 클리포드 스틸의 작품 형성배경과 작품세계에 대해 고찰하였다. 다음으로 작품의 기법인 자카드 니트의 개념 및 역사, 종류별 특징에 대해 살펴보았으며, 컬러 자카드 니트기법을 이용한 사례를 해외 컬렉션을 중심으로 살펴보았다. 이와 같은 이론적 배경을 토대로, 클리포드 스틸 회화의 조형적 특징을 분석하여 응용한 의상디자인 작품 8점을 제작하였다. 본 연구에서 얻은 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 작품의 모티브에 있어서 클리포드 스틸 회화의 물감이 흐르는 듯한 거친 붓터치와 추상적 이미지는 블리스터 자카드 기법에 있어서 주름에 의해 구성되는 흐르는 듯한 이미지 표현에 적합하였다. 둘째, 작품의 이미지 표현에 있어 블리스터 자카드 기법은 평면적 표면과 부조적 질감의 극적인 대비 효과를 가져 올수 있어 클리포드 스틸 회화의 강렬한 이미지를 더욱 부각시킬 수 있는 기법임을 알 수 있었다. 셋째, 색이 제한된 자카드 니트 위에 다양한 내추럴한 톤과 작가의 작품에서 오는 색채적인 깊이와 색감을 표현하기 위하여 누노펠트를 사용한 결과 자연스러운 회화적 터치를 표현할 수 있었다. 넷째, 블리스터 자카드 기법을 응용한 결과 니트 웨어 표면에 다양한 질감을 연출할 수 있었으며 독특한 조형미를 나타낼 수 있었다. 본 연구에서는 자카드 니트에서 다양한 문양을 표현할 수 있는 회화가 모티브로서 활용될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다. 앞으로 많은 다양한 회화 이미지의 모티브 활용으로 자카드 니트의 조직이 많이 개발되어 풍부한 질감과 예술적인 문양 개발의 연구가 이루어 지기를 바란다. 그러기 위해서는 원사의 적절한 사용, 컬러 배합, 많은 고도의 기술적 요소가 필요한 분야이므로 앞으로도 연구 개발이 지속적으로 이루어 져야 할 것이다.;In the modern society rapidly changing, formative arts which expresses human will has been continuously expanding to various fields, especially in fashion industry. It his context, there should be an effort to create unique and diversified ideas through development of various materials and expression method for individuality. Knitwear which has unlimited potential in fashion industry does not only emphasize functionality and practicality but is developing in a unique form. Also, as the concept of modern and art design is introduced, it is becoming more high quality and diversified. Thus this study analyzes the paintings of Clifford Still, an abstract expressionist, and introduces strong color, rough touch and aesthetic value of sculpture like a flow of paints as the motive of art works. Using blister jacquard texture, it maximizes the contrast between the feelings of flatness and billowing, and by using nuno felt, it emphasizes the expression with rich color. Through this, this study creates a unique knitwear design with effective patterns and rich color. The goal of this study is in creating a unique knitwear design conveying artistic value and functionality of paintings thus expanding the expressive area of jacquard knitwear. As for the contents and methodology of the study, it reviews the background and art world of Clifford Still based on documents, magazines and previous studies and discusses the cases of applying paintings in knitwear design from foreign collections. Then, it reviews the concept and history of jacquard knit and characteristics of each kind, and the cases where jacquard texture was applied in design as well. Based on those theoretical background, the study newly introduces 8 pieces of fashion design using the characteristics of Clifford's paintings. The findings from this work are as follows. First, as for the motive of work, the rough touch as like flow of painting and abstract images in Clifford's works are very suitable in expressing the flowing image by creases in blister jacquard technique. Second, In expression of image, it was found that the blister jacquard technique can emphasize the strong image of Clifford's works because it can bring a dramatic contrast between the feelings coming from flat surface and engraved surface. Third, various natural tones were used on jacquard knit with limited color variation and nuno felt was used to express the color depth and color sense from the art works, and consequently it was able to express natural brush touch of paintings. Fourth, applying the blister jacquard technique, it could express various texture on the surface of knitwear and as well express unique aesthetic value of sculpture. This study found that the paintings of various patterns can be used as a motive from jacquard knit. I hope more kinds of jacquard knit texture applying various painting images as motive are developed in the future so that depth studies on rich texture and artistic pattern can be continued. For future development, there should be a continuous effort in research field because it requires appropriate use of thread, color mixture and other technical elements as well.
