Abstract

Even though we say about the energy frequently in daily life, we cannot precisely define its meaning or formation of it. In Korean word, we use the word ‘Ki’ for energy; as we use it in, "Ki is blocked"(meaning being dumbfounded), "Receiving a lot of Ki from people"(meaning popular) or "without Ki"(meaning without energy). The friendly word that not only explains our life but at the same time allows the existence of life is ‘Ki’; the energy. Since the concept of ‘Ki’ has been used from ancient so vary along the time and location, it is hard to define in a simple sentence. In western word, the similar words to ‘Ki’ would be ‘vital force’, ‘ether’, ‘energy’, ‘breath’ or ‘air’. I understood it in the same thread of connection with energy in this thesis. I regarded the ‘Ki’, which, in broad range, motivate from small segment of our daily life to, in extreme, the whole universe, as the root of the thesis and visualized through nature. For it is interpreted in various ways, I do not put importance on what concept is has, rather I recognized with significance how it was used and changed in the reason of tradition. People have tried to understand the reason of life via the principle of nature, and they did it with active mutual relationship of the physic and the mental, the body and the soul. When I draw a picture, resemble pieces or do some creative works I control the flow of ‘Ki’ through breathing. As I meaning control, it is what should be understood as an order in broad term, which is different from planning. On the purpose of experiencing the energy that sympathizes with the world, I participated in yoga and festivals which allowed me to experience through body and explore through vision the nature aspects lying between the sky and the land such as flowers, trees, grasses and animals. Yoga is a comprehensive sensual experience that lets us physical discipline and internal search, as well. A profound realization in unconscious moment, presentiment and transcendental recognition including realistic sense connects the body and the soul with a little change in the body and breath. I believe and active behavior of pursuit for the self, like yoga, via obtaining energy through movement makes person acquire order in chaotic perspective and develops competent to get to harmonious with the world. Communication becomes the main body that ignites self-reform in creative dimension that transcends itself. I experienced the energy of communication which is open to everyone to enjoy. That energy is not the forced one but the voluntary one which can be described as ‘play’ that entices enjoyment and satisfaction from during the process no matter what the result of it is. My work and the way of enjoying through the body and the soul have a connection in that both pursue the harmony of each different dimension of the body and the soul. Varieties of colorful lines are not a mere combination of color but another name of ‘Ki’. The color has various meaning in it which thereby responses through mysterious color and light. As it is witnessed in artistic experience through work, I was able to perceive the profound and active aura embedded in objects, senses and instant scenery. I tried to advance my appreciation about ‘Ki’ through studying designs and colors which ‘Ki’ has transformed into a formative language full of vitality. In a perspective that the origin of managing the chaotic world mixed up with each discrete body of beauty is ‘Ki’, I expressed the mutual relationship of application of ‘Ki’. It does not merely stay in scenery, but is expressed in impromptu from the connection that circulates the body and the soul. Recycled papers are randomly selected with new meaning. The pieces create another creation as they connect each other unmethodically. It is so much alike the elements forming scenery that each has independent esthetic values but makes a bigger energy when gets together and be a new creation. Making a mask is the same as scenery. When the improvised enjoyment, harmony and the daily factors unite to become one, all sorts and conditions of pieces makes a fantastic harmony, which I thought would be the same as the universe. The herculean power spurted out in the process of enjoy and share with people is the source that lets a work process more enjoyable. Through this study, I tried to establish an opportunity to look into the circulation and harmony of ‘Ki’, through which the whole elements between the sky and the land have complex and, at the same time, simple relationship.;우리는 일상에서 기에 대에 자주 언급하면서도 그의 정확한 의미나 형태를 알지 못한다. 기(氣)가 막힌다. 인기(人氣)가 많다. 기운(氣運)이 없다. 이렇게 우리의 삶을 설명하는 친근한 개념이며, 동시에 우리의 삶을 가능하게 하는 힘이 바로 기, 에너지이다. 기(氣)의 개념은 고대부터 시대와 지역에 따라 다양한 의미로 사용되었기 때문에 단순하게 정의를 내리기 어렵다. 서양에서는 이와 유사한 의미로 생명력(vital force), 에테르(ether), 에너지(energy) 또는 숨(breath), 공기(air)라 한다. 본인은 기(氣)를 그의 함축하는 의미를 고려하여 본 논문에 있어 에너지(energy)와 같은 맥락으로 이해했다. 본인은 광범위한 영역에 걸쳐, 작게는 우리 일상 속에, 크게는 세계를 운용하는 동력인 기를 작품의 근본이 되는 주제로 삼고 자연을 통해 시각화하였다. 다양하게 해석되는 기에 대해서는 그것이 어떤 개념을 갖는가라는 관점에서보다 그것이 전통적 사유에서 어떤 식으로 운용되고 변화하였는가에 연구의 중점을 두었다. 사람들은 자연의 원리에서 삶의 이치를 깨닫고자 하였고 이를 몸과 마음의 역동적인 상호작용으로 풀어나갔다. 본인은 그림을 그릴 때나 조각 모으기와 같은 창작활동 등을 할 때, 호흡으로 기의 흐름을 조절했다. 조절은 계획성과 다르고 큰 의미의 질서에 해당한다. 세상이 함께 감응하는 에너지 체험을 포착하기 위해 본인은 자연의 원리를 탐구하는 과정으로 풀, 나무, 꽃, 동물 등 하늘과 땅 사이의 자연 요소들을 바라봄과 동시에 몸으로부터 체득하는 요가, 놀이(축제)에 참여하였다. 신체적 수련과 함께 내면의 탐구가 가능한 요가는 통합적 감각 체험이다. 현실 감각까지 포괄하는 무의식적 움직임, 예감, 초월의식과 같은 깊은 깨달음은 신체의 작은 변화, 호흡과 함께 몸과 마음을 연결했다. 본인은 행위를 통해 에너지를 얻는 과정에 있어 요가와 같은 자아에 대한 능동적 탐구는 카오스적 우주관에 질서를 갖고 변화하며 세상과 조화를 이룰 줄 아는 자질을 키우는 것이라고 생각했다. 소통은 주체가 되어 스스로 창조적 차원의 변화를 일으키며 스스로를 초월한다. 본인은 모두가 즐기는 열림의 장에 참여하면서 소통의 에너지를 경험하였다. 그 에너지는 강제가 아닌 자발성에 기초하며 행위 결과와 상관없이 과정에서 즐거움과 만족을 얻는 놀이 개념으로 설명되었다. 놀이 개념은 몸으로 즐기는 것과 함께 정신으로 즐기는 방식으로 기의 몸과 마음의 각각 다른 차원에서 어울림을 추구하는 점이 본인의 작업과 닿아 있었다. 오색찬란한 선들은 단순한 색의 조합이 아닌 기의 또 다른 이름이다. 색은 다양한 의미를 갖는데 신비의 색, 빛으로 응답한다. 작품을 통한 예술 체험에서 보이듯 물질, 감각, 찰나의 풍경 등의 심오하고 역동적인 아우라가 감지되고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 본인은 기가 생명력 가득한 조형언어로 변형된 문양이나 색 등을 연구해 봄으로써 본인의 기에 대한 이해도를 넓히고자 했다. 혼돈의 세상은 모든 존재가 각자의 아름다움을 지닌 채 섞여있었다. 이를 운용하는 원천을 기라는 개념으로 보고 기 운용의 상호작용을 표현했다. 그것은 단순히 화면 안에서 머무는 것이 아닌, 신체와 마음의 순환되는 연결로부터 즉흥적으로 표현되었다. 가면의 재활용된 종이를 비롯한 다양한 대상들에게 새로운 의미를 부여하며 재료를 모았다. 그 조각들은 무계획으로 연결되어 또 다른 생성물을 만들어냈다. 이것은 마치 풍경을 이루는 요소들처럼 단독적으로 미적 가치를 지니며 합쳐졌을 때 더 큰 에너지를 갖는 새 창조물이 된다. 가면 만들기와 풍경은 같은 맥락이다. 즉흥적 즐거움, 어울림, 일상의 산물들이 모여 하나를 이루었을 때 각양각색의 조각들은 환상의 조화를 이루고 세상의 모습도 이와 같다고 생각했다. 사람들과 함께 나누고 즐기는 과정에서 분출되는 초인적인 힘은 작업을 즐기게 하는 원천이었다. 본인은 본 연구를 통해 하늘과 땅 사이의 모든 존재가 복잡하면서도 단순한 관계를 갖는 기의 순환과 어울림을 알아보는 계기를 마련하고자 했다.
