재일한인타운의 사회-공간적 재구성과 정체성의 정치

Abstract

본 논문에서는 현재 일본 내 최대 규모의 재일한인 집주지역인 오사카 이쿠노쿠에 위치한 세 곳의 상점지역을 중심으로 재일한인의 초국가적 이동과 성격, 재영토화 과정, 그리고 재일한인과 일본인 사이의 정체성의 경합에 대한 논의를 시도한다. 본 연구의 목적은 첫째, 재일한인을 이주시기에 따라 올드커머와 뉴커머로 구분하고, 그들의 이주 역사와 배경을 살펴본다. 둘째, 재일한인과 본국 사이의 초국가적 연결성에 대해서 알아본다. 마지막으로 일본 주류사회에 의한 이쿠노쿠의 지역성과 사회적 구성을 살펴보고, 이에 따른 올드커머, 뉴커머, 일본인 사이의 정체성의 경합에 대해 알아본다. 재일한인의 이주 역사와 배경을 파악하기 위해 국내외의 학위 논문과 학술지 논문, 재일한인과 관련된 서적들, 일본 법무성 통계 자료 등의 객관적인 학술 연구 자료, 그리고 소설과 같은 내러티브 자료를 살펴보았다. 또한 2008년 7월부터 약 일년간 세 차례 오사카 이쿠노쿠의 연구지역을 방문하였으며, 이 지역의 사회적 구성과 재일한인과 일본인의 정체성의 경합을 파악하기 위해 총 31명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 올드커머의 이주는 제국주의와 자본주의의 영향으로 인하여 자발적, 강제적, 혹은 반강제적 형태로 일어났다. 반면에 뉴커머의 경우에는 세계화와 초국가주의의 영향 아래에서 자발적인 형태의 이주라고 할 수 있다. 둘째, 올드커머들에게 있어서 이쿠노쿠는 ‘주류사회로 가는 징검다리’의 역할을 해왔다. 그러나 뉴커머가 들어오면서 세 곳의 상업지구의 특성이 강화되면서 ‘에스닉 엔클레이브’(Ethnic Enclave)로 변화하였다. 셋째, 이쿠노쿠에서 재일한인의 초국가적 성격은 올드커머와 뉴커머 모두에게 다양한 형태로 나타난다. 예전에는 이러한 초국가적 활동이 재일한인 단체와 본국 사이에 주를 이루었으나 최근에는 대상이 광범위해지면서 개인의 사회적·경제적 이익을 얻으려는 활동이 늘어나고 있다. 넷째, 짝퉁 브랜드와 불법 체류자로 인하여 일본 주류 사회에서는 이쿠노쿠 지역에 대한 부정적인 이미지를 가지고 있다. 이러한 행위가 대부분 뉴커머들에 의해 이루어지기 때문에 뉴커머와 기존의 올드커머, 일본인 사이의 갈등이 커지고 있다. 또한 이들 서로는 상업적인 교류 외에 정보 교환과 접촉이 없는 ‘박탈형’의 성격을 보인다. 오사카 이쿠노쿠는 일본 내 최대 재일한인 거주지역임에도 불구하고, 그 지역에 거주하고 있는 재일한인에 대한 연구가 비교적 적은 편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 해당 지역을 방문하여 심층 인터뷰를 통해 그 지역에 거주하고 있는 올드커머, 뉴커머, 일본인 사이의 정체성의 경합에 대해 다루었다는 점에서 큰 의의가 있다.;In this paper, we discuss transnational migration, transnational characteristic and competition of identity between Zainichi Korean and Japanese, which focus on three commercial areas located in Ikunoku, Osaka. This place is known that the largest number of Zainichi Korean inhabit in japan. First, we classify Zainichi Korean into Old Comer and New Comer by the time of migration and study the history and background of their migration. Second, we research the transnational connectivity between Zainichi Korean and Korea. Lastly, we study the locality and social composition in Ikunoku by mainstream society in Japan and the competition of identity between Old Comer, New Comer and Japanese. We research objective materials such as a number of academic paper, publication that deal with Zainichi Korean and statistic of Ministry of Justice in Japan and also study narrative documents such as novel. Moreover, we did field work in Ikunoku for three times from July, 2008 to July, 2009. We had deep interview with 31 people so that we understand social composition in the area and competition of identity between Zainichi Korean and Japanese. The result of study is as below: First, voluntary, compulsive and semi-compulsive migration of Old Comer is result from imperialism and capitalism. On the other hand, in case of New Comer, they migrate to Japan of their own accord under globalization and transnationalism. Second, Ikunoku played a primary role of 'the stepping stone to enter mainstream society' for Old Comer. However, migration of New Comer caused that attribute of three commercial areas in Ikunoku strengthen. Consequently, the region had changed to 'Ethnic Enclave'. Third, the transnational characteristic of Old Comer and New Comer appears as various form. In the past, most of transnational activity occurred between North and South Korean and organizations of Zainichi Korean - Mindan and Chosoren. Recently, more people try to get own social and economical benefit. Finally, Mainstream society in Japan has a negative effect on Ikunoku due to fake brand and illegal immigration. Conflict between New Comer and natives such as Old Comer, Japanese is increased because most of illegal acts are achieved by New Comer. Also, There is no network between them except commercial function. Although the largest number of Zainichi Korean live in Ikunoku, there are few studies about them relatively. Therefore, we think this paper is meaningful research because we had interviews with Old Comer, New Comer and Japanese in person and figured out competition of identity between them.
