Women’s Reproductive health is a key component of maternal health which is the fifth Millennium Development Goal. Poverty has severely affected women’s reproductive health worldwide especially in developing countries. This has limited accessibility to effective maternal care in terms of antenatal services and family planning which have led to lowering availability of contraceptives, increasing unexpected pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS and complicated abortions among others. This study sought to assess the effects of poverty on women’s reproductive health in Tanzania and to propose recommendations that will help to meet the first Millennium Development Goal of ending poverty by 2015, as well as meeting the target of universal access to reproductive health. The study used the perspective of Momsen (2004) and Gwatkin et al. (2004), in order to guide the analysis on the effects of women’s reproductive health in Tanzania. This thesis has found out that poverty has worsened women’s reproductive health in Tanzania by limiting their access to health care, which has led to increased maternal mortality, fertility rates and rapid HIV/AIDS spread. Women’s reproductive health therefore appears to depend on the extent to which women can afford basic health services, contraception, antenatal and maternity care, which have been found to be a big challenge to Tanzanian women. The study used secondary data sources. Based on the critical literature review and analysis of findings from the Tanzania case. This study proposes recommendations to the Tanzanian government to put in place effective policies for the improvement of women’s reproductive health rights, free family planning services and capacity building of traditional birth attendants in order to improve women’s reproductive health and to break out of the poverty trap hence helping to achieve the first and fifth Millennium Development Goals.;여성의 생식건강 (Reproductive health)은 새천년개발목표(MDGs)의 5번째 조항인 모자건강의 핵심내용이다.
