장혜윤의 “Suite for Piano(2009)" 분석연구

Abstract

한국의 창작음악은 한국인의 정체성을 갖는 음악으로 작곡되어야 한다. 한국인이 그 정체성을 갖고 작곡을 하는 것은 필수적인 일로서 그에 기반이 되는 작곡기법이 필요하다. 그 중 하나의 방법으로 한국의 내재되어 있는 사상을 나타낼 수 있는 작곡기법인 4도 모드 음향 공간기법(The Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique)을 들 수 있다. 이 사상에는 한국문화의 기본사상인 천지인 합일사상과 음양오행설을 담고 있다. 또한 한국 창작음악에 있어서 정체성을 갖는 또 다른 방법은 한국음악의 특징 중 하나인 장단을 사용하는 것이다. 따라서 4도 모드 음향 공간기법과 장단을 사용한 한국 현대음악의 창작은 필수적이라 할 수 있다. 이 곡의 분석으로 한국 현대음악의 새로운 작곡방법 뿐만 아니라 기존의 서양음악 작곡테크닉과 함께 발전할 수 있는 방법을 제시하고자 한다. 분석방법은 5개 악장에 대한 형식, 음향공간구조의 결합, 선율, 리듬을 제시하고 설명하는 것이다. 장혜윤의 “Suite for Piano(2009)"는 피아노를 위한 5개의 악장으로 구성하였고 각각의 악장은 서로 다른 형식, 음향공간구조의 결합, 선율, 리듬을 가졌다. 그러나 이 5개의 악장은 모두 4도모드 음향공간기법을 사용하여 작곡하였고 1악장에서는 4도모드 음향공간을 이용한 12음열의 이용을 사용했다. 2악장은 세마치장단의 사용의 3악장은 4도모드 음향공간 기법을 이용한 클러스터(Cluster)를 활용했으며, 4악장은 4도모드 음향공간 기법을 사용한 카논(Canon)을 5악장에서는 중중모리 장단의 활용을 통해구성했다. 한국의 전통성을 내재하고 있는 4도모드 음향공간 기법과 장단의 활용, 서양음악의 작곡 기법 중 일부인 클러스터(Cluster)와 카논(Canon)의 접목을 시도한 장혜윤의 “Suite for Piano(2009)" 분석 연구는 한국적인 리듬과 작곡기법의 기반위에 서양의 테크닉을 접목시킨 피아노 독주 모음곡으로 한국 현대 창작음악의 가능성을 넓히고 새로운 방향을 제시하는데 중요한 역할을 할 것이다.;The present thesis aims to explore the musical characteristics of “Suite for Piano (2009)" by Hye-youn Jang as a part of the modern Korean music research. Korean contemporary music should embody the Korean identity. As it is necessary for Korean contemporary music composers to write music with their national identity in mind, their works must be based upon relevant compositional techniques. One such example is the “Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique,” which can represent the concepts that are internalized in Korean society. These thoughts include the philosophy of "Yum-Yang" and "ChunJIin: the Heaven, the Earth and the men," the basic concepts of the Korean culture. Another way to incorporate Korean identity in Korean contemporary music is to use Changdan, one of the features of Korean traditional music. In this respect, it is essential to use both the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique and Changdan in the composition of Korean contemporary music. Unfortunately, current composition and analysis of Korean contemporary music have a long way to go. Against this backdrop, this paper intends to present new composition methods of Korean modern music, as well as propose ways to develop the Korean modern music in keeping with the development of existing Western music compositional techniques, through the analysis of “Suite for Piano." This analysis of “Suite for Piano" will be carried out by discussing the form of its five movements, combination of acoustic space, melody, and rhythm. This analysis shows that “Suite for Piano" by Hye-youn Jang is comprised of five movements for piano, and each movement is unique in its form, combination of acoustic space, melody, and rhythm. However, all five movements were composed according to the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique, with slight variations: twelve-tone method in combination of the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique of the first movement; Semachi Changdan (rhythmic pattern) of the second movement; Cluster method combined with the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique of the third movement; Canon method combined with the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique of the fourth movement; and Jungjungmori Changdan (rhythmic pattern) of the last movement. The analysis of “Suite for Piano,” a piano solo collection by Hye-youn Jang, which attempts to converge the Korean traditional methods of the Perfect Fourth Mode Acoustic Space Technique and Changdan with the Cluster and Canon of the West, will play an important role in expanding the horizon of Korean contemporary music and presenting its future directions.
