콜라주를 활용한 이미지 변형 그래픽 표현 연구

Abstract

Modern visual arts in which experiences undergone in the current era and emotion are expressed convey diverse messages as a tool to connect humans to society and help artists and audiences to share a bond of sympathy through artistic works. In the field of plastic arts, these methods are to stimulate sensibility and subsequently lead to the development of human mind as media to make artists' abstract ideas be shared with other people. Thus, artists need to understand and study such a crucial medium in plastic arts because they are directly involved in its creation. Expression is a basic tool to make plastic arts on the ground that a medium reflects artists' thought. The expression that does not appear to itself come with a medium. That is, through media, expressions help make works of art linking creators to audiences. Such creative activities indicate plastic arts. If there is no a medium, expression is impossible in the field of plastic arts. Ultimately, the plastic arts cannot exist. Paper colle that cubists first used to attach actual objects on a paper or collage brought plastic arts to a turning point. Collage was a new medium to make possible various forms of expressions and visual experiences. In the modern times, media as objets d'art continue to change through various choices made by artists. The attribute of the selected medium takes the shape of a work of art. Thus, as a wide range of media have their different methods and meanings in each era, material properties are fundamental to the expression of the concept of a medium. Media that have infinite potentials due to their distinctive characteristics are tools to deliver artists' messages to the masses. Artists have to select a proper medium to express what they try to convey. In the paper, media for visual expression are studied on the basis of their theories. The study is aimed to use a medium suitable for works of art and create visual images to change familar objects in various ways as particular shapes are reinterpreted and arranged using collage techniques and line drawings. I choose collage as a medium and create new shapes in improvised and delicate ways as puting pictures being cut form magazines related to everyday items on a paper. My piece of work is made according to my own ideas and the expression of lines using readily available objects. In the study, the development of a new form of plastic arts for artistic expressions and experimental works of art are put forward using collage through physical properties. When my study of graphic expression relevant to collage techniques plays a role as a way to communicate between artists and audiences, new attempts deriving from the methods of expression can stimulate curiosity and maximize imagination, and works of art is expected to be perceived with a principle of plastic arts in the process.;현대의 시각예술은 시대 속에서 체험하는 경험과 감정의 표현이다. 이러한 시각예술은 인간과 사회를 연결하는 수단으로써 다양한 메시지를 전달하고 작품을 통하여 대중과 공감대를 형성한다. 이러한 조형예술에서의 수단은 구체화되지 않은 작가의 정신세계를 다른 사람이 공감할 수 있도록 만들어내는 매개체를 말한다. 작가에 의해 만들어진 매개체는 인간의 감성에 자극을 주고, 인간은 그 자극에 의해 공감하며 감성이 발전해 가고 있다. 이처럼 조형예술에서 중요한 역할을 하는 수단으로써의 매개체는 예술가에 의해 창조된다. 따라서 예술가들은 매개체에 대한 이해와 탐구가 필요하다. 표현은 스스로 이루어지지 않는다. 표현이 이루어지기 위해서는 매체(medium)가 필요하다. 매체는 작가의 정신세계가 표현되는 것으로 표현이 가능하게 하고, 표현은 조형예술을 창조하는 근본적인 수단이 된다. 결국 매체는 표현을 가능하게 하고, 표현은 창조자와 관람자 사이의 매개체인 작품을 만들어내며, 이러한 창조 활동을 조형예술이라고 말한다. 즉, 조형예술에서 매체가 존재하지 않는다면, 표현 역시 이루어질 수 없고 궁극적으로 조형예술의 존재 자체가 불가능함을 의미한다. 2차 세계대전 이후 발생된 사회적 불안과 위기의식은 전통기법과 매체에 대한 불만으로 이어졌다. 예술가들은 서양미술의 바탕을 이루었던 충실한 대상묘사와는 다른 새로운 매체에 대한 필요성을 느끼게 되었다. 따라서 큐비스트들에 의해 시도된 실제 사물을 그대로 화면에 부착시키는 파피에 콜레와 콜라주 기법은 미술의 전환점이 되었다. 콜라주 기법의 도입은 조형예술에서 새로운 매체의 등장으로 표현의 확장 가능성을 넓히고 새로운 시각적 체험이 가능해졌다. 오늘날 매체로서의 오브제는 예술가들의 다양한 선택을 통해 끊임없이 변화하고 있다. 선택된 매체는 그 물질적 속성을 통하여 예술작품으로서의 형식을 갖게 된다. 현재까지 예술의 영역에 광범위하게 적용되어진 매체들은 많은 방법론과 의미를 지닌 상태에서 시대와 시조의 변천에 따라 모습을 달리했다. 이러한 변화 속에서도 결국 그 개념이 표현되어 질 수 있는 근본적인 통로는 매체의 물질적인 성질인 것이다. 작가가 대중에게 전하고자 하는 메시지는 매체를 통한 표현으로 이루어진다. 따라서 매체는 작가의 메시지 전하는 중요한 수단이 된다. 매체는 그 성질에 따라 표현에 무한한 가능성을 열어준다. 그렇기 때문에 작가가 자신의 메시지를 전달하는데 적합한 매체를 선택하여야 한다. 메시지 본 연구자 역시 이러한 점을 인지하고 시각 표현에 있어 매체에 대한 이론적 배경을 바탕으로 매체에 대한 탐구를 하고자 한다. 그리고 이를 통해 새로운 시각표현의 방향을 제시하는 그 의의가 있다.
