판타지 표현을 위한 점묘 일러스트레이션 표현 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 판타지 이미지 표현을 극대화하기 위한 점묘 일러스트레이션 표현을 연구하는데 의의를 두고 있다. 점묘 기법은 판타지를 표현하는데 있어서 효과적인 수단이 될 수 있다. 붓에 의한 점의 표현은 형태의 불분명함이나 중첩으로 판타지의 환상적이고 몽환적인 분위기를 이끌어 내는 데 적절하다고 하겠다. 이러한 판타지 표현 연구를 위해 우선 본 논문의 핵심적 단어인 판타지의 의미와 점묘에 대한 이론적 배경을 고찰하고 일러스트레이션의 사례 분석을 한다. 점묘는 개인의 꿈이나 희망과 같은 판타지를 표현하는데 있어 시각적 효과를 극대화 할 수 있는 매개체가 될 수 있다. 이를 통해 사랑이 가득 담긴 행복한 이야기를 시각적으로 전개하고자 하였고 판타지와 점묘의 상호 연관성을 통하여 작품에서 점묘표현이 필연적 요소임을 증명하였다. 판타지의 세계에서는 불가능이란 존재하지 않는다. 판타지는 순수한 기쁨을 만들어 내며 인간으로 하여금 현실에서 해방시켜 자유세계로 안내해 준다. 또한 비논리적 공존이 존재하는 공상으로써 좌절된 욕구를 만족시킬 수도 있다. 이러한 관점에서 연구자는 현실에서 출발하는 상상이 동화와 같은 이야기를 담아 재구성 되어진 것을 판타지로 정의하고, 표현의 극대화를 위해 점묘기법과 빛의 효과를 결합한 작품으로 전개하였다. 판타지의 몽환적인 분위기 강조를 위하여 인상주의의 붓터치를 색점으로 응용하고, 빛의 효과를 더하여 즉흥적이고 아련한 이미지 표현이 본인이 추구하는 분위기와 연관성을 가진다는 관점을 토대로 작품을 제작하였다. 일러스트레이션에 대한 원활한 소통을 위하여 의인화가 더하여진다. 이는 타인과 동식물, 기타 자연에 나타나는 표정, 몸짓, 현상 들을 조망할 때 자신의 감정을 투사하여 그것들이 가지는 감정을 추측한다든지 혹은 그러한 감정을 지니는 심적 활동에 동요 할 수 있는 효과를 볼 수 있기 때문이다. 근본적으로 본 연구에서 의인화는 생명을 불어 넣어서 보고, 움직이고 말할 수 있는 요소로 작품 안에서 상호 소통을 가능하게 해주는 역할을 한다. 연구 기법으로는 작품의 중심이 되는 점묘기법을 이용하였다. 조형요소에 있어서 가장 기본이 되는 점(點)이 색(色)으로 나타남으로써, 색이 무수한 점에 의해 반복적으로 중첩된다. 이와 같은 방법은 투명한 아크릴 위에 매니큐어와 글라스 물감, 색종이, 큐빅들의 장식적 효과에 의하여 더욱 화려하고 신비로운 이미지를 강조하는 효과를 가진다. 특히 점에 의해 표현되어지는 아련한 효과는 판타지의 황홀함을 더하게 된다. 본 연구는 연구자의 일상에서 느껴지는 개인적이고 주관적인 이상 세계에 대한 이야기를 중심으로 표현되는 판타지 세상을 시각적으로 풀어 보는 시도를 하였다. 이러한 과정은 연구자에게 일상생활을 더욱 건강하고 즐겁게 유지할 수 있는 에너지로 작용되기 때문이다. 작품 제작 중 특징적 요소인 점묘 사용에 있어서 형태의 구분이나 넓은 배경을 표현하는 데에 대한 어려움이 있었다. 이런 점들을 보완하고 지속적인 연구를 통해 독창적인 판타지 일러스트레이션의 표현이 더욱 새롭고 다채로운 조형 세계의 창조적 장이 되는데 의의를 둔다.;In this thesis, stippling illustrations are studied to maximize the expression of fantasy images. Stippling techniques can be effective and appropriate tools to express fantasy because small dots drawn with a pen or a brush form an unclear and repetitive image. To study the expression of fantasy, examples of illustrations are analyzed after the meaning of fantasy, which is a key word in this thesis, and the theoretical background of stippling are examined. An attempt to visually illustrate happy and heart-warming stories is made using stippling that is a medium to maximize visual effects to express personal dream or hopes in a fantasy. In this study, it is proved that stippling techniques are fundamental to illustrations through the correlation between fantasy and stippling. In fantasies, there is nothing impossible. Fantastic stories give pure pleasure and make humans feel free from reality. Also, frustration can be recovered in the illogical and imaginary world. From this viewpoint, it is defined that fantasy is to reorganize imagination deriving from reality and include stories like fair tales in this study. Illustrations that combine stippling techniques with lighting effects are made to maximize expression. Impressionistic brush strokes are applied when dots are colored for an impressive fantastic atmosphere, and lighting effects to express improvised and dim images that I seek are added to my illustration. Personification is needed in illustrations in order to make smooth communication with readers. When animals, plants, and natural objects are personified in a book, readers may guess their emotions or their main characters may touch people deeply after seeing their facial expressions, gestures, and appearances. In this study, personification plays a role in making characters in a storybook move and talk to one others. In the thesis, as dots and colors, which are basic elements of modeling are shown using stippling techniques, colored dots are repetitive. In the same way, a transparent acrylic panel is decorated with manicures, glass paints, colored papers, and cubic zirconium in order to show splendid and mysterious images. Especially, dimming effects created from dots increase the pleasure of fantasy. This study is aimed to illustrate fantastic stories focusing on ideal worlds about which I have thought in my daily life. Such a process gives me an energy boost and happiness. I had difficulty showing a large background and the segments of a shape when stippling was used. Through my efforts to improve my works, this study is intended to make fantastic illustrations in more original and diverse ways.
