오브제를 활용한 삶의 은유적 표현 연구

Abstract

산업혁명을 기점으로 발전하기 시작한 인간의 물질문명은 오늘날의 현대사회에 이르러 획기적인 발전을 이루었으며, 이를 기반으로 하는 과학기술의 눈부신 성과는 인간에게 물질적 풍요와 편리함을 안겨다 주었다. 하지만 반대급부로 인간의 창조물인 물질문명에 거꾸로 종속되는 경향이 강해짐으로써 인간소외현상을 낳게 되었고, 극단적으로는 인간성마저 상실되어 가는 심각한 사회문제를 초래하게 되었다. 현대인은 이제 정신세계가 물질세계를 지배하는 주체적인 존재라기보다는 사회구조 속에서 하나의 도구에 불과한 객체로 전락하게 되었으며, 이로 인한 생활의 무력감과 스스로의 존엄성 파괴로 인해 인간 내면의 정신적 가치를 상실하게 되는 상황에까지 이르게 되었다. 이러한 현대인들의 시대적 위기감은 인간 자신의 정체성에 대한 반성과 위기극복에 대한 대안 창출에 직면하게 된다. 이러한 현대인들의 불안한 심리현상은 정신적으로 섬세한 감수성을 지닌 현대 예술가들의 작품에서 날카롭게 반영되고 있으며, 현대사회의 모순과 인간소외에 따른 현대인의 실상과 사회상 또한 예술작품의 주요 주제로 표현되고 있다. 또한 시대적 상황의 위기문제는 예술을 포함한 철학, 사회학 등 여러 분야에서의 반성적 자각을 통해 위기극복의 방안이 모색되고 있으며, 자아정체성의 발견과 인간의 가치에 대한 물음들이 제시되고 있다. 즉, 예술은 하나의 인간 활동이며 개인의 감정, 무의식, 상상력 등의 다양한 측면을 포괄한 실재를 파악하려는 인간의 욕구에 의한 것이다. 이 때 예술은 그 세계의 상황을 상징적으로 표현하는 것이다. 현대미술의 한 표현방법으로써 오브제(Object)의 사용은 입체파(Cubism)이후 마르셀 뒤샹의 레디 메이드(Ready-made)가 등장하면서 표현의 새로운 길을 트기 위한 수단으로서 발전하였고 또한 예술 그 자체로서 자리를 잡았다. 예술작품에 있어서 오브제는 작가의 창의적인 선택과 변용에 의해 관습이나 체제에 가려진 눈과 사고를 뜨게 하며, 일상생활의 사물들도 예술로 환원되어 새로운 가치로 재인식되는 상징적 의미를 지니게 되었다. 이러한 상황의 전개 속에서 본인은 적극적인 표현방식으로 오브제를 작품에 도입하여 현대사회의 인간소외와 인간성 상실에 따른 비극적인 현실 문제를 상징적으로 표출하고자 하였다. 본인의 작품에서 오브제들은 간결하고 단순한 형식으로 조합되어지며 그들이 전하는 메시지는 은유적으로 나타난다. 오브제는 단순한 물체로서의 실재적인 형태로만 파악되는 것이 아니라, 인간 의식과의 관계를 맺는 객체로서 현실의 문제와 관련지어서 사물의 주관적 의미를 부여하는 것이다. 본인의 작품마다 사용된 사각형의 틀은 본인의 작업을 통해서 사회를 보는 어떠한 개념적인 형식, 즉 고정관념으로 발전이 된다. 그리고 더 나아가 또 다른 세계로 나아가는 경계로써 그 의미를 확장하게 된다. 그러한 틀을 중심으로 틀 안에는 척박한 도시문화 속에서 스스로 자멸하여 비인간화되어 가는 인간들의 사회적 위기상황을 기계부품, 쇳덩어리, 깨진 거울조각, 볼트와 같은 오브제를 사용하여 표현하고자 하였다. 그리고 틀 밖으로는 차갑고 어두운 느낌의 틀 안과 달리 자연의 이미지를 회화적으로 표현함으로서 자연인으로서 인간이 추구하는 자유와 인간성 회복을 통한 인간적 삶을 영위하기를 바라는 것이다. 즉, 현대인의 메말라가는 삶, 존재에 대한 불안감을 생명의 이미지를 통한 표현으로 극복해보고 궁극적으로는 이를 통해 자신의 존재에 대해 재인식하는 계기를 삼고자하는 의미를 함께 내포하고 있는 것이다. 본인은 이와 같은 현대사회에 대한 상징적 이미지 표현을 통해 인간의 존재가치를 재확인하고 인간성 회복의 필요성과 가능성을 재인식하게 되었다. 한편 본인의 작품이 과연 얼마나 사회현실을 보여 줄 수 있으며 또 그 안에서 어떠한 의미작용을 할 수 있는가라는 질문을 스스로에게 던지게 되었으며 작품에 대한 반성과 함께 앞으로의 방향을 모색하는데 본 연구에 대한 의미를 두고자 한다.;The development of civilization has been on the rapid rise since the Industrial Revolution. On a basis of the fast- growing modern society, the great growth of scientific technology has offered us material prosperity and convenience in our lives, but the reverse side of the change, serious human alienation and lose of humanity has been caused by the intend of getting subordinate of human being to material civilization. Modern people have been degenerated from the subject that mental power is superior to material value to the object as a tool in modern society, and loss of inner mental value has been emerged as a big problem by a feeling of helplessness and ruin of dignity in degrading modern social structure. In this crisis, modern people have become faced each reflection on identity and creating of alternatives for overcoming the crisis. Modern artists with detailed and sentimental emotion have indicated insecure mental state of modern people through their works, and the actual circumstance of existing contradiction and human alienation these days have been expressed sharply as a main theme. In addition, many questions on human value and identity have been arisen with searching alternatives of the crisis by awakening in various learning field. This phenomenon means that art is a human activity that illustrates emotion, unconsciousness, imagination of human and expresses the actual state of the age in a symbolic way. The usage of objet as a way of expression has settled and cultivating a new way in art with appearance of Ready Made by Marcel Duchamp since Cubism. Objet in art has got to carry the symbolic meaning that makes routine objects to the objects with artistic value, and awoke artists' creative thought that had been blind by tradition or social structure. In this study, tragic problems of the modern society like human alienation and loss of dignity illustrated by adopting objet as an active expressing way. Objet in this study is mixed in brief and simple way and the message of the objet is a metaphor. Objet, the object related to human consciousness, carries subject meaning reflecting the reality of modern society. The square frame on the works in this study, is changed to my own point of view on society, and gets enlarged the meaning as a boundary toward the world. On a basis of the frame, social crisis of dehumanizing in barren society is expressed by using artificial objet in achromatic color through machinery parts, broken piece of mirror, wire net and a lump of metal. Hope of human being for freedom and recover humanity is indicated by natural color contrast to the inner frame image. That is, it carries the meaning of the first step toward a new understanding of each existence by overcoming the insecure mental status and perched modern life through images of life. Through the symbolic expression of modern society, I found possibility and necessity of recovering humanity and importance of the value of human existence, also cast many questions to myself how this study effective for showing the reality and how it works. On this study, search for a way for the futuresociety is illustrated with the reflection on the works.
