La Dame aux Camelias(춘희)에 표현된 복식과 미의식

Abstract

본 논문은 프랑스 낭만주의와 사실주의의 과도기에 발표된 소설「La Dame aux Came´lias」를 통해, 1840년대의 복식형태, hairstyle과 모자 및 장신구, 그리고 그에 따른 소재와 색채에 대해 고찰하고 아울러 소설속에 언급된 미적표현을 통해, 미적범주의 성격을 고찰 해 보았다. 1840년대는 복식사상 로맨틱 스타일시대로서 화려하게 장식된 robe의 volume이 확대된 시기라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 복식은 경제적 발전에 따른 부르조아적복장과 당시 사회에 나타나기 시작한 과학적 합리주의적 사고방식과는 부합되지 않는 구제도에 대한 향수를 배경으로 하고 있었다. 로맨틱 스타일시대의 부풀린 스커트와 소매, 그리고 가늘게 조인 허리는 1840년대에는 스커트가 더욱 확대되는 한편 소매는 축소되는 경향을 나타내었다. 이러한 변천속에서,「La Dame aux Came´lias」의 배경이 되는 시대는 1840년에서 1847까지로, 따라서 스커트가 땅이 끌리고 소매의 volume이 축소되기 시작한 것을 알 수 있다. 그러나 소설에서는 실루엣의 모양이나 소매가 완전히 축소된 데 대한 구체적인 언급은 없었다. 소설에 나타난 복식을 보면, 먼저 robe의 묘사는 volant장식이 나타났고 bertha collar와 소매에 대한 표현도 있었다. indoorgarments로는 peignoir와 chemise 및 남자의 robe de chambre가 나타났으며 overgarments로는 pelisse, shawl 및 manteau와 남자의 voyage costume(여행복)에 대한 언급이 있었다. 그리고 기타, a l'anglaise의 머리에 밀짚모자나 bonnet를 쓰고 여기에 veil을 두른 묘사가 많았으며 slipper와 그 밖에 시계줄, lorgnette, 손수건 등 남자의 것과 유사한 장신구와 팔찌, diamond 등의 보석, bouquet가 묘사되었다. 소재는 실크, 캐시미어, 벨벳, 머슬린, 새틴, 레이스등의 고급소재가 주로 나타났고, 색채는 흰색이 주를 이루어서 주인공의 순결함을 나타내었으며, 그 외에 검은색, 빨간색, 푸른색의 묘사가 있다. 이와 같이 복식에 대한 묘사는 항시 모드화에서 보여지는 특성과 많은 유사점을 나타내었다. 따라서 「La Dame aux Came´lias」의 주인공 Marguerite는 grand coquette로서 파리의 사교계 부인들을 압도하는 모우드의 리더였으며, Armond도 시골 부르조아 출신이었지만 귀족과 같은 생활을 하는 a la mode였다고 볼 수 있다. 소설에 나타난 미적표현은 복식, 외모, 내면적인 측면으로 나누어 고찰하였다. 다양한 미적표현이 언급되었는데 이는 대체로 joli와 e´le´gant으로 함축되는 것으로 나타났다. joli는 주로 복식과 함께 특히 외모의 측면에서 젊고 아름다운 용모를 대상으로 하였으며, 반면에 e´le´gant은 복식과 외모의 아름다움으로 joli를 포함하는 한편 내면적인 distinction 즉, 품위와 지혜를 대상으로 하였다. 그리고 미적 표현을 통해 나타난 미적 이상상은 젊은 여성으로서 흰 chemise를 입은 순결한 처녀다운 모습의 소녀와 같은 순수한 모습으로 나타났다. 그리고 e´le´gant에 비해 joli는 소녀같은 젊은 여성을 대상으로 하였다.; In this study, observations were made on Costumes of the 1840s in terms of their types and style along with materials, colors and ornaments through the expressions of "La Dame aux Came′lias", a work in a transition of the French romanticism and realism. In addition, an approach to the concept involved in aesthetic expressions was tried through close examinations of wordings in the novel. It was found that the 1840s could be Romantic period in the development of the fullness of the robe and gorgeous ornaments. The women's costumes through expressions of the novel were characterized by the increasing of skirt, the upper of the body tightened with corset, the sleeve fitted and small hairstyle and headdress to harmonized the silhouette of the robe as a whole cashmere shawl and manteau that match with the robe were also universally worn. The men's costumes through the novel were robe do chambre, voyage costume, and manteau. Therefore, it may be assumed the costumes in "La Dame aux Camelias" reflected nosily all the features of French clothing which appealed in mode plates of the day. In the novel, Marguerite was described as a woman of vanity, having a keen eye for costumes and also having a sense high enough to wear a｀la mode costume. And Armond was described as a prodigal, so he wear also a｀la mode costume. The author of this study is, therefore, inclined to conclude that she thus appear in the novel as a smarty dressed lady-like woman and her costumes showed common features with those of mode plates of the time. Meanwhile, in aesthetic expressions of the novel, joli was worded to depict Marguerite's girlish looks and beauty at costumes and appearances, while elegant was used to depict her gracefulness in costumes, appearances and her noble mind. And a ideal woman in this time was young pretty girl like a chasted maiden.
