비혼 귀농 여성에 대한 여성주의적 연구

Abstract

This paper focuses on the reality where due to capitalism, individuals are evaluated by the types of occupation they hold and the amount of capital they possess. Because they conform to fixed standards and their personal or collective desires turn towards material possession, it is difficult to free themselves from the central value of society and see themselves from a different perspective. Therefore, this study examines the way they turn away from the mainstream value to lead a different life and the significance such life gives to us. Of various alternative movements, this paper explores experiences of single women who chose to return to the farm for an alternative living. Its findings are as follows: First, as they experience work different from their previous ones, they gain new awareness of their own work. As they realize how to enjoy their work, rather than feel painful about it, they can adjust the boundary of their ability to work. Second, change take place about relationships. As they better know themselves and form natural relationships with others in the rural areas, their relationships gradually change because their decision to return to the farm and practice of such decision is a process of searching for what they really want to. They draw unnecessary attention because of their position as unmarried women who returned to the farm, but they cope with changes in their own way in their own place. Third, they come to feel safe about a new environment. Because they are single, they feel unsafe at first. But as they come to know villagers and adjust themselves to the new environment, they get free from such concern about safety. Fourth, change takes place about possession. As they realize more possession does not mean more happiness, they come to value even small things. They take a positive attitude toward uncertainties of the future by accepting them without fear. Though they cannot but face difficult situations in reality, they become content about small and simple things without seeing the difficulties from a negative viewpoint. Those single women who returned to the farm are positive people who have thought over direction for their lives and have chosen changes without fear. For this reason, they make effort to take a positive view of changes in life in a new space. This paper explored the realistic possibility of alternative life through experiences of these women and found the value they hold significant in many ways: Such value will further expand the scope of feminism if connected with the feminist value.;자본주의로 인해 개인을 평가하는데 있어 어떤 직업을 가지고 있고 얼마나 자본을 가지고 있는지를 통해 평가되는 현실에 주목하게 된다. 이러한 고정된 기준에 자신을 맞추게 되고 개인과 집단의 욕망들은 물질적인 것으로 변하게 되어 여기서 벗어나 다르게 보는 것은 더 어려워지는 것이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 중심에서 벗어나 다르게 살아가는 삶에 대한 대안적 방식이 어떻게 가능하고 이것은 우리에게 어떤 의미를 줄 수 있을지 알아보고자 한다. 여러 대안적인 움직임 중에서 비혼 귀농 여성의 경험을 통해 알아보고자 하는데 그것은 이 여성들이 모습이 여러 지점에서 대안적인 가치를 보여주기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 심층면접을 주된 방법으로 하고 때에 따라 참여관찰을 병행하면서 여성들의 구체적인 생활을 통해 어떤 변화의 과정들을 경험하게 되었고 그것이 이들에게 어떤 지점에서 영향을 주게 되었는지를 알아보았다. 이들이 인식하고 실천하고 있는 가치들을 알아 본 것으로 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 기존과는 다른 노동을 경험하게 되면서 자신의 노동에 대한 새로운 인식을 하게 된 것이다. 당위로써 인식되던 것에서 벗어나 노동의 즐거움을 알게 되고 어떻게 하면 고통이 아닌 즐길 수 있는 노동이 가능한지에 대해 알아가게 된다. 각자의 위치에서 자신의 노동 능력의 한계지점을 알아가게 되면서 노동 정도를 조절하면서 자신이 통제할 수 있는 환경을 만들어 가는 것이다. 둘째, 관계성에 대한 부분으로 자신에 대해 더 알아가게 되고 타인과도 전과는 다른 관계를 설정하게 되는 것이다. 귀농을 결정하고 생활을 하는 과정 자체가 자신이 무엇을 하고자 하는 지를 찾아가는 과정이기 때문에 자신에 대해 깊게 알아가게 된다. 타인에 대해서도 사람들과 관계를 자연스럽게 맺게 되면서 점점 변하게 되는 것이다. 비혼 귀농 여성이라는 위치성 때문에 불필요한 관심을 받기도 하지만 각자의 위치에서 그것을 자신만의 방법으로 대응하고 있는 모습을 보이고 있다. 셋째, 안전에 대한 인식의 전환으로 자신의 주변 환경에 대해 안전함을 느끼게 되는 것이다. 처음에는 혼자이기 때문에 불안감을 느낄 수밖에 없는데 그것은 여성이 혼자 지낸다는 것이 현실적으로 많은 위험을 안고 있기 때문이다. 하지만 귀농 생활을 통해 마을 사람들과 적응하게 되면서 문이라는 개념이 약해지게 되고 안전에 대해 전보다는 자유로워지게 된 것이다. 넷째, 소유에 대한 변화가 일어난 것이다. 많이 가지고 있을수록 행복한 것이 아니라는 것을 생활 속에서 알게 되면서 작은 것에도 소중함을 느끼고 행복할 수 있다는 것을 보여주고 있다. 많은 것을 소유하고자 했다면 귀농 자체를 선택하지 않았을 것이기 때문에 어느 정도의 현실적 어려움이 있을 수밖에 없지만 비혼 귀농 여성들은 이것을 부정적으로 보지 않고 소박한 것에 만족하는 마음을 알게 된 것이다. 이것은 미래의 불확실성과도 연결되어 미래에 대해 불안해하지 않고 적극적으로 받아들이는 태도를 가지게 된다. 자신을 잘 알고 현실에 대해 긍정적으로 보기 때문에 이런 모습을 가지게 된 것이다. 불안감을 더 불안을 낳기 때문에 이러한 생각에서 벗어나 자신의 현재의 모습에 만족하면서 살아가고자 하고 있다. 자신이 어떤 삶을 살아가고자 하는지를 고민하고 귀농을 선택하게 되면서 전과는 다른 환경에서 생활을 시작한다는 것은 많은 용기가 필요하다. 직접 생활을 해 나가면서 자신이 예상하지 못하게 여러 지점에서 변화를 경험하게 되고 때로는 어려움도 있지만 변화를 긍정적으로 받아드리게 되면서 자신의 삶에 만족하는 모습을 보이고 있었다. 이들의 삶의 모습은 여성주의에게도 많은 의미를 줄 수 있는데 그것은 이들이 가지고 있는 가치들이 여성주의 가치와 연결되고 여성주의를 좀 더 확대해줄 수 있는 지점도 있다고 보기 때문이다. 비혼 귀농 여성들이 삶의 모습이 대안적인 것으로 상징화되기에는 현실적인 한계점들이 분명 존재하지만 이들이 실천하고 있는 모습들은 지금 우리에게 여러 지점에서 의의가 있는 것이다.
