'제인 에어'의 독자들

Abstract

본고의 목표는『제인 에어』의 독자들을 분석하여 여성의 주체적 읽기에 대하여 고찰하는 것이다.『제인 에어』에는 두 가지 종류의 독자가 있는데, 이야기 속의 독자와 화자가 부르는 텍스트의 독자가 그것이다. 이 독자들의 독서 방식을 분석하는 것은 제인의 독립과 성장을 이해하는데 도움이 될 새로운 접근 방식이 될 것이다. 본론 1에서는 이야기 속의 독자들에 대해서 분석하고자 한다. 독자의 자아와 의식과 그의 독서 방식은 서로 영향을 주기 때문에 제인의 독서 방식은 그녀의 성장 과정을 나타내는 지표가 된다. 제인의 궁극적인 성장은 외부에서 강요하는 전형적인 해석을 거부하고 주체적인 해석을 완성하는 것과 독서 경험을 공유하는 평등하고 자유로운 인간관계를 형성하는 것이다. 작품에서 독서 경험을 나누는 것은 관계를 형성하는 계기를 마련한다. 그런데 여성간에는 이런 유대감이 쉽게 형성되는 반면에 남성은 그의 해석을 강요하기 때문에 해석의 싸움이 불가피하다. 본론 2에서는 화자가 부르는 텍스트의 독자에 대해서 분석하고자 한다. 화자와 독자의 유대감이 강조되는 것을 보아 제인이 이상적으로 생각하는 독서 경험에 기초한 자유롭고 평등한 관계의 연장선에 텍스트의 화자를 두고 있음을 알 수 있다. 즉 화자와 독자의 관계는 작품 속의 여성 독자들의 그것과 같다. 제인이 주체적 읽기를 완성하여 자신의 목소리로 자신의 정체성을 규명하고 이를 표현하는 것처럼, 화자는 그녀의 독자가 여성의 삶에 대해 새롭게 읽는 주체적인 독서 능력을 가지도록 유도한다. 문학을 여성 문제를 다루는 장으로 활용하며, 전통적인 문학에서 전형화 된 여성의 모습이 아닌 입체적인 여성을 제시하여 주체적인 여성의 모습을 적극적으로 찾게 만든다.;This thesis explores the process of women's independent reading by analyzing readers in Jane Eyre. There are two kinds of readers in the work; readers in the story and those reading the text. This approach will help to understand Jane's subjectivity as a woman. Chapter Ⅰ examines readers in the story. Jane's reading strategies reflect her growth because reading and reader's consciousness affect each other. Jane's reading ability enables her to get friends and family. The final object in her growth is to acquire her own independent reading strategy and to have equal and free relationship on the basis of one's reading experience. Jane can have this relation with women more easily than men because men insist on their interpretation to her. Chapter Ⅱ discusses readers reading the text to whom the narrater speakers. The relation of these readers and the narrator is similar to the ideal relation between Jane and other women in the work. The narrator leads readers to have a new view woman's life. She tells her story which differs from the story of a typical woman in traditional literature for readers to analyze this independent woman closely and creatively.
