- Abstract
Image zooming to higher resolution is a very important technique in im-age processing. Many geometric transformation requires interpolation to be performed on an image. In this paper, we present a novel directional inter-polation scheme. The kernel is implemented based on moving least-squares method using shifts of a Gaussian radial function. To remove the undesired artifacts like checkerboard e ects or blurred images, this method is imple-mented in a way of non-linear methods. First, we develop an algorithm which detects local edge directions. This method is outdoing the known Sobel method theoretically and numerically. Second, the given image is re-sampled by using the Gaussian interpolation. The algorithm is compared with some well-known linear schemes. The resulting images demonstrate the new algorithm's ability to magnify an image while preserving edge features.
