Erik Satie의 「잠수인형(Ludions)」분석 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 에릭 사티(Erik Alfred Leslie Satie, 1866-1925)의 연가곡「잠수인형(Ludions)」에 관한 분석 연구이다. 사티는 프랑스 예술가곡사에서 중요한 위치를 차지하고 있는 작곡가로서 가곡이외에도 종교음악, 기악곡, 피아노 독주곡, 발레곡, 극음악에 이르는 영역에 걸쳐 독창적인 작품을 많이 남겼다. 그가 남긴 10여 작품의 연가곡 중「잠수인형(Ludions)」은 1923년에 발표된 곡으로 레옹 폴 파르그(Leon-Paul Fargue, 1876- 1947)의 시에 의해 탄생되었다. 이 곡은 시와 음악의 성공적 결합과 프랑스적인 색채를 감각적으로 이끌어 내었다는 점에서 높이 평가되어지는 작품이다. 본 논문에서는 「잠수인형(Ludions)」의 분석에 앞서 사티가 작곡가로 활동하던 시기의 시대적 양상과 문화적 배경, 예술사조들을 알아보고 그것이 사티에게 미친 영향과 사티가 프랑스 음악사에 끼친 영향은 어떠한지 알아보았다. 또한 사티의 시기별 작품들을 통해 낭만주의 기법을 탈피한 사티만의 고유한 음악적 특징을 살펴보고 그의 주요작품에 있어 기존의 예술 사조를 뒤엎은 혁신적인 음악요소를 성악곡을 중심으로 찾아 연구해보았다. 사티만큼이나 독창성이 뛰어나 당대에 많은 영향을 끼친 「잠수인형(Ludions)」의 작시가 파르그는 그 특유의 익살스러움과 유희적 표현들로 우리 삶에서 느낀 것을 가장 단순하며 세밀하게 표현해내는 특징을 가지며 사티가 추구하는 예술사조인 다다이즘과 초현실주의의 성향을 띄는 시인이다. 그의 전반적인 문학적 특징과 그의 작품 성향을 알아봄으로서 그가 추구하고자 하는 예술관이 「Ludions」의 시와 음악을 이해하는데 큰 역할이 됨을 알 수 있다. 전체 다섯 곡으로 구성된 연가곡「잠수인형(Ludions)」은 유머와 위트, 아이러니, 기지, 동심들을 담고 있으며 심한 말장난들과 비논리적인 구절들로 풀리지 않을 수수께끼 같은 시와 함께 그에 상응하는 음악이 절묘한 조화를 이루어 낸 곡이다. 제 1곡인 “Air de Rat (쥐의 노래)”는 쥐의 노는 모습을 표현하였고, 제2곡 “Spleen (우울)”은 냉소적이고 빈정거리는 말투로 우울한 감정을, 제3곡 “La Grenouille Americaine (미국 개구리)” 는 장난스러운 행진곡풍으로 개구리의 모습을 묘사하였다. 제4곡 “Air de Poete (시인의 노래)” 는 단조에 실은 블랙코메디적인 곡으로 시인의 고충을 노래하고 있다. 마지막 제5곡 “Chanson de Chat (고양이의 노래)”는 미숙한 어린이들의 말투로 담아낸 귀여운 고양이의 모습을 묘사하고 있다. 마치 한편의 동화를 보는 듯한 느낌을 주는 이 작품은 사티의 성악작품의 특징을 설명하고 이해하는데에 있어 중요성을 갖는다.;This study analyzed Erik Satie's song cycle Ludions. Satie (1866-1925), a composer considered important in the history of French art song, left lots of creative works ranging from vocal music to religious music, instrumental music, solo piano works, ballet music and drama music. He also composed around 10 song cycles including「Ludions」released in 1923 whose words come from a poem by Leon-Paul Fargue's (1876- 1947). The work is highly evaluated because it is considered to successfully combine poetry and music and sophisticatedly express French styles. Before analyzing 「Ludions」, the study explored social conditions, cultural background, and art movements of the times when Satie worked as a composer, and then examined how they affected Satie, and also how Satie affected the history of French music. In addition, through his works by period, the study looked into his unique musical features that escaped from romantic techniques, and examined, on the basis of vocal music pieces, innovative musical factors in his major works that revolutionized art movements of his time. Poet Fargue who was as creative as Satie had lots of effects on his society. His poems including the one used as the words of「Ludions」express what are felt in daily life in the most simple and elaborate way using his own humorous and witty expressions. He was sympathetic to Dadaism and surrealism, the two art movements sought by Satie. The examination of overall features of his literature and view of art sought by him is expected to be greatly helpful in understanding the poem and music of「Ludions」. The song cycle 「Ludions」, composed of five songs, contains humor, wit, irony and childlike innocence. In 「Ludions」, the riddle-like poem containing playful puns and irrational phrases makes exquisite harmony with music. The first song “Air de Rat” expresses rats at play and the second “Spleen” presents gloomy feelings in a cynical and sarcastic way. The third “La Grenouille Americaine" describes frogs with playful march-style music. The fourth song “Air de Poete," a black comedy like tune in a minor key, expresses a poet's agony. The last song “Chanson de Chat" describes a cute cat in children's unsophisticated way of talking. 「Ludions」, the work that makes the audience feel as if they are reading a fairy tale, is important in explaining and understanding Satie's vocal works.
