내현적·외현적 자기애의 접근-회피 동기와 대인관계양식

Abstract

The purpose of present study is to investigate the similarities and differences of two narcissistic subtypes, covert and overt narcissism in relationship patterns, and also to look for the mediating variable between covert narcissism and relationship patterns. Data were collected through surveys undertaken by 583 college and graduate students. The questionnaire was composed of Covert Narcissism Scale(CNS), BAS/BIS Sensitivity Scale, Narcissistic Personality Disorder Scale(NPDS) and Relational Self Scale(RSS). ANOVA and MANOVA were used to examine the similarity and differences between covert narcissists, overt narcissists and control group in relationship patterns and approach-avoidance motivation. The analysis of multiple regression was used to examine the mediating effect of approach-avoidance motivation between covert narcissism and relationship patterns. The result of present study are as follows; First, the result of ANOVA is that the similarities of two narcissistic subtypes are consciousness of others, over-dependency to relation and instrumental relation, and covert narcissists show more tendencies of avoidance of relation and overt narcissists are more agency. Second, the result of MANOVA is similar to AVOVA result, but this analysis more empathized the relationship pattern of consciousness of others in covert narcissism. Third, approach motivation partially mediates between covert narcissism and instrumental relation, over-dependency to relation. Avoidance motivation partially mediates between covert narcissism and avoidance of relation, consciousness of others. The results of this study provide several implications applied to the counselling setting in understanding relational difficulties of two different narcissistic subtypes and building rapport with narcissistic clients. And also, present study verified approach-avoidant motivation as meditator and it could make a therapeutic intervention easier.;본 연구는 외현적 자기애와 내현적 자기애의 대인관계양식을 비교 분석하고, 좀 더 부적응적인 특성을 갖는 것으로 알려진 내현적 자기애가 대인관계양식에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 접근-회피 동기가 매개변인 역할을 하는지 검증하였다. 자료 수집을 위해 내현적 자기애 척도(Covert Narcissism Scale: CNS), 한국판 행동활성화 및 행동억제 체계(BAS/BIS) 민감성 척도, 자기애성 성격장애 척도(Narcissistic Personality Disorder Scale: NPDS), 관계적 자기 척도(Relational Self Scale: RSS), 인구통계학적 질문의 순서로 구성된 질문지를 서울과 부산 지역 583명의 대학(원)생에게 배부, 수거하였다. 분석의 첫 번째 단계로 박세란(2004)이 제시한 절차에 따라 NPDS와 CNS점수를 기준으로 외현적 자기애집단, 내현적 자기애집단, 통제집단을 구분하였다. 그 결과 내현적 자기애집단은 82명, 외현적 자기애집단은 55명, 통제집단은 172명이 분류되었다. 외현적 자기애와 내현적 자기애의 대인관계양식을 비교하기 위해, 위에서 분류된 집단을 대상으로 일원분산분석과 다변량분석을 실시하였다. 일원분산분석 결과, 외현적 자기애집단은 주도성이 내현적 자기애집단은 관계회피가 다른 집단들과 두드러진 차이를 보이는 관계양식으로 나타났다. 그리고 두 집단 모두 통제집단보다 관계 의존적이고 도구적인 관계를 맺으면서 타인의식을 많이 하는 것을 나타났다. 다변량분석에서는 일원분산분석과 유사한 결과를 나타냈으나, 내현적 자기애의 타인의식적 관계양식이 더욱 강조되었다. 다음으로 내현적 자기애가 대인관계양식에 영향을 미치는 과정에서 접근-회피동기의 매개효과를 검증하기 위해 전체자료를 대상으로 위계적 중다회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 내현적 자기애가 타인의식과 관계회피에 영향을 미치는데 있어 회피동기가 유의미한 매개변인 역할을 하는 것이 검증되었다. 또한 접근동기는 내현적 자기애가 도구적 관계, 관계의존에 영향을 미치는데 매개효과를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 접근-회피동기를 통제하였음에도 내현적 자기애가 4가지 대인관계양식에 미치는 직접효과가 여전히 유의해 부분매개를 한다는 결과를 얻었다. 본 연구는 자기애를 하위유형으로 나누어 대인관계양식을 비교 분석해봄으로써 자기애의 특성을 좀 더 다각화해 보는데 도움을 주었고 매개변인으로 접근-회피 동기의 역할을 살펴봄으로써 특정 대인관계양식이 활성화되는데 있어서의 역동을 구체적으로 알아볼 수 있었다는 점에서 의의가 있었다.
