Maurice Ravel의 “Miroirs"에 관한 연구

Abstract

수 백년 동안 지배해 해오던 독일 중심의 낭만 음악은 쇠퇴기를 거치면서 19세기 말에 러시아의 민족주의와 프랑스의 인상주의에 의해 도전을 받게 된다. 이 같은 경향은 19세기말에서 20세기 현대음악으로 이행하는 과도기적 단계로서 서양음악사상 중요한 전환점을 이루고 있다고 할 수 있다. 회화의 인상주의와 문학의 상징주의에서 영향을 받은 인상주의 음악은 다양한 화성을 사용하여 새로운 음색과 음향을 형성함으로서 독일음악의 장·단조의 조성체계를 파괴시켰으며 조성과 박자를 의도적으로 회피하여 자연스러움과 유연함을 추구하였다. 대표적인 작곡가로 클로드 드뷔시(Claude Debussy, 1862-1918)와 모리스 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937)이 있는데 이들은 서로 영향을 주고 받으며 프랑스 음악의 발전에 영향을 미쳤으나 작곡기법에 있어서는 서로 다른 관점을 가지고 있었다. 본 논문에서 연구한 라벨은 인상주의 기법에 충실한 드뷔시와는 달리 고전주의적인 형식과 인상주의 기법, 뿐만 아니라 당대의 여러 음악양식을 받아 들여 융화시킴으로서 독자적인 스타일을 확립하였다. 본 논문의 대상인 「Miroirs(거울)」는 1905년에 작곡되었으며 Noctuelles(나방), Oiseaux tristes(슬픈 새들), Une barque sur l'Ocean(대양의 조각배), Alborada del gracioso(어릿광대의 아침노래), La vallee des cloches(종의 골짜기)의 소제목을 갖는 5개의 모음곡으로 인상주의적 특징이 두드러진 작품이다. 제목에서 알 수 있듯이 대상을 있는 그대로 묘사하는 것이 아니라 거울을 통해 반영되는 대상을 단지 암시적으로 표현하려는 의도로 쓰여진 작품이다. 또한 「Miroirs(거울)」는 고전 Sonata 형식과 같은 형태로 되어있으며 짧은 단편적인 동기들로 이루어진 선율, 다양한 리듬과 박자, 9, 11화음 등의 화성 사용, 반음계, 온음음계, 5음음계, 선법 등의 사용으로 고전주의와 새로운 음향을 추구하는 인상주의 음악을 잘 융합시키며 라벨만의 특징을 보여준 작품으로 인상주의적 작품에 있어서 중요한 위치에 있다고 할 수 있다. 연구의 가치가 높은 피아노 곡 「Miroirs」를 선정하여 연구함으로서 라벨의 독특한 음악세계와 피아노 어법을 보다 깊이 이해하는데 도움이 되고자 한다.;As the Germany-centered Romanticism dominated the European music for centuries began to decline in late 19th century, it was challenged by Russian Nationalism and French Impressionism music. Such a tendency may have been an important turning-point as a transient stage moving from the 19th-century music to the 20th-century modern music in the history of the Western music. The Impressionism music influenced by Impressionism of painting and Symbolism in literature destroyed the major/minor tonal system of the German music by forming new tone quality and sounds with diverse harmonies, while avoiding tonality and meter intentionally to pursue a natural and flexible music. It's model composers were C. Debussy(1862-1918) and M. Ravel(1875-1937), who influenced each other to conduce greatly to development of the French music, but differed in their views of composing techniques. Unlike Debussy, M. Ravel or the focus of this study accepted and fused various music modes of the his contemporary age beyond Classical forms and Impressionism techniques to establish his own unique style. The subject of this study 「Miroirs(mirror)」 composed in 1905 consists of 5 pieces: Noctuelles (moth), Oiseaux tristes (sad birds), Une barque sur l'Ocean (small vessel of the ocean), Alborada del gracioso (morning song of a clown) and La vallee des cloches (valley of bell). This work features Impressionism well. As known from its themes, the work does not depict the objects intact but expresses them implicitly as if they were reflected on the mirror. It has the same form as the Classical sonata, and uses melodies of short and fragmental motifs, diversified rhythms and times, such harmonies as 9 and 11 ones, chromatic scales, diatonic scales, pentatonic scales, modes, etc., to fuse the Classical music and the Impressionism music pursuing a new sound. In a nutshell, this work is an important Impressionism music featuring the composer's own unique characteristics. This study focuses on his valuable piano piece Miroirs to have a better and deeper understanding of his unique world of music and piano grammar.
