타이포그래피의 시각표현에 있어서 언어표현력에 관한 연구

Abstract

인간은 언어를 통해 인간만이 가지고 있는 특수한 능력을 획득할 수 있으며, 인간의 사고는 문명이 발달함에 따라 더욱 진전하게 된다. 인간이 사고를 위해 사용하는 도구에는 여러 가지가 있을 수 있겠지만, 언어는 이 중 가장 강력하고도 기초적인 것이라고 할 수 있다. 언어란 인간과 동물을 구분 짓는 가장 큰 특징으로 인간 발달의 중요한 특징이다. 인간은 언어를 통하여 알고 있는 지식이나 발견, 어떤 신념 같은 문화적 유산들을 다음 세대로 전달한다. 인간은 누구나 본능적으로 자기표현(seif-expression)의 욕구를 지니고 있으며, 자기표현을 통해서 자신의 생각이나 감정을 타인에게 전달하고 싶어 한다. 그러나 자신의 느낌과 생각을 설득력 있게 타인에게 전달한다는 것은 성인에게도 어려운 과정이며, 아직 언어 발달이 미숙한 초등학생에게 있어서는 더욱 어려운 일이다. 또한 현대사회에서는 개인에 대한 존중, 가치의 다원화와 다양화, 지식과 정보의 창조와 활동 등과 같은 특질로 인해 언어를 통한 의사소통은 어느 때보다 중요한 사회적 접촉수단이 되고 있다. 이에 따라 언어로 자신의 생각과 느낌을 창의적으로 표현하고 남의 생각과 느낌을 잘 이해할 수 있는 능력이 필요하고, 미래사회를 주도해 나가고 다양한 정보를 서로 교환하며, 개인의 창의적 사고나 아이디어를 효과적으로 의사소통하는 언어표현력이 중요한 요인이 된다. 본 연구에서는 타이포그래피와 아동의 언어표현력에 관한 이론을 고찰함으로써 타이포그래피의 시각표현에 있어서 기본적으로 언어 습관이 완성되는 초등학교 입문기인 만 6. 7세 아동에 대한 언어표현능력의 중요성을 고려하여, 타이포그래피의 다양한 시각 표현이 아동의 의사소통과 언어표현의 교육수단에 있어서 효율적인 매체로 제안하는데 의의가 있다. 모든 면에서 발달이 두드러지는 이시기는 언어 발달과 개념형성이 급속도로 이루어진다. 아동의 언어표현력이란 대화하는 상대나 상황에 따라서 적절하게 이야기 하고, 자신의 생각이나 느낌을 다양하게 표현할 수 있는 능력으로 사고력과 의사소통능력 뿐 아니라 학교 교육의 성취를 위해서도 필수적이다. 풍부한 어휘를 이해하고 표현할 수 있는 능력을 다진 아동들에게 안정감과 자신감을 갖고 이야기 할 수 있는 언어 환경을 조성하여, 자연스럽게 이야기 하고 자신의 의사를 올바르게 표현할 수 있도록 지도해주는 것은 매우 중요하다. 일반적으로 아동의 언어 표현의 시각교육은 그림책을 통해 이루어지고 있다. 감각에 의지하여 학습하는 아동의 특성상 아동의 교육에서 시각교육이 차지하는 비중은 매우 크다. 그러나 아동의 언어교육을 위한 그림책에서 문자는 단어위주로 구성되어 있고, 그림은 단지 단어의 설명적 제시로만 기능하고 있어, 아동에게 효과적이고 쉽게 인지할 수 있는 교육매체가 요구된다. 작품 제작에서는 일상생활 속에서 쓰이는 의성어·의태어를 재료로 사용하여 타이포그래피의 시각 표현으로 아동의 언어표현능력의 향상에 대한 기대효과를 제시하고자 한다. 아동기 때의 학습은 놀이를 통해 쉽게 이루어지는데 놀이를 통해 아이는 상상력을 키우고 창의력을 기르기도 하며, 정서와 운동기능의 발달을 가져올 수도 있다. 따라서 아동에게 학습에 대한 교재 또한 다양한 놀이의 연장선으로 이루어진다면 아이들의 지적 호기심을 충분히 자극할 수 있기 때문에 놀이의 형태인 의성어·의태어의 다양한 타이포그래피의 시각표현을 제작해보고자 한다. 타이포그래피는 조형적 기능의 다양한 표현으로 단순히 정보 전달의 수단을 넘어선 무한한 가능성을 지닌 시각언어라고 할 수 있다. 한글은 문자가 아닌 시각언어로 표현될 수 있는 가능성이 충분하며, 다양한 제작 방법과 새로운 의미와 새로운 표현 공간이다. 문자가 시각언어로 되어가는 과정에서 아동의 상상력 발달과 효과적인 언어 학습에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다. 본 연구는 타이포그래피의 시각표현을 통한 아동의 언어표현력에 관하여 고찰해 보고, 작품제작으로 타이포그래피의 다양한 시각 표현이 아동 언어학습의 교육수단으로서, 효율적인 의사소통과 언어능력 향상의 기대를 제안해 보는데 의의가 있다. 아동의 발달수준에 맞는 다양한 제작방법과 새로운 표현 공간으로서, 효과적인 아동의 교육현장에 접목시킬 수 있는 타이포그래피의 조형적 기능을 제시하는 것이다. 이론 고찰을 통한 자료를 근거로 아동 언어표현 교육에 있어서, 타이포그래피 조형요소인 문자이미지 활용은 아동의 언어시각자료의 한 매체로 효과적이라는 것을 기대하며 제안하고자 하는 데 연구 목적이 있다.;Human can attain special abilities which only human has through language and our thoughts become more advanced as society develops. Many tools can be used for thinking but language is the most powerful and basic one of them Language is the clearest feature to distinguish human with animals and it is the most important characteristic of human development. We hand down cultural heritage such as knowledge, discovery and beliefs to next generations through language. We all have our desires to express ourselves, our thoughts and emotion to others. Expressing our feeling and thoughts successfully to others is very hard even to adults and harder to elementary students whose language has not fully developed. In addition to that, verbal communication is becoming a more important social method nowadays as modern society respects for individuals, diversifies value, creates and uses information and knowledge. Due to the situation it is needed to have the ability to express their own thoughts and feeling creatively and understand feeling and thoughts of others. Additionally language skills to lead future society, exchange wide range of information and express creative thoughts and idea successfully is essential. In the study, we will take a look at theories on typography and children’s language ability. As six to seven-year ?old children who enter elementary school accomplish their basic language habits according to visual expression of typography, it is very important to understand their language expressions. And it is aim to suggest various visual expressions of typography as effective methods to teach children how to communicate and express ideas. Children experience overall development in the period including fast language advancement and conceptual formation. Children’s verbal expression ability is the skills to communicate properly according to people and situations and express their thoughts and feeling differently. They are essential to develop capability to think, communicate and advance in school curriculum. It is very important to provide language environment for children who are able to understand and express wide range of vocabulary to help them exchange their ideas naturally with confident and teach them to express themselves in a proper way. Generally, children’s visual education for language expression is progressed with picture books. As children rely mainly on their senses, visual education is give a lot of weight among other child education. However, picture books for children’s language education are mainly based on words and pictures merely work to explain words. Educational methods that can be recognized easily and effectively by children are needed. We will show expected effects on child’s language skill advancement created by typographic visual expression using imitative and mimetic words that are used in everyday conversation. Learning can also take place easily while children play; they can develop their imagination, creativity, emotion and physical ability through play. If textbooks are treated as play to children, they can stimulate children’s intellectual curiosity. And this is the reason why I am making a typographic media with imitative and mimetic words Typography is a visual language with infinite possibilities to express figurative functions in addition to basic communication. Korean has great possibilities to be expressed as visual language and is open to various ways of production, new meaning and expression. As letters are transformed into visual languages, children are expected to advance their imagination and language skills The study aim to take a look at children’s language skills through typographic expression , how various visual expression of typography works as an educational method and help children communicate effectively and develop their skills. Study was intended to suggest figurative functions of typography which can be successfully applied to children’s education with various methods fitted to child’s development. Based on theory studies, I am sure that images of letters which are figurative elements of typography can work efficiently as a method for visual learning method.
