현대사회에서의 관념과 행동의 획일화에 대한 시각적 표현연구

Abstract

In the boring routine life that repeats everyday, we're moving along the same way and the same place. If we look beside, heading for the same direction at the same time, we realize that the others are also going for the same goals with the same purpose of capitalism. We definitely have dreams and purposes. But we ask ourselves whether those dreams and purposes are really for self-actualization or just following the flow of the modern life. This study started from the question that "Wouldn't all the modern people living in the contemporary world think about the current surroundings and look back the innocence of our childhood during the process in which they rethink their ego and identity in modern world." This study first surveyed the characteristics of the industrial structure, consumption pattern, communication structure of the modern world. consumption as the best thing, the modern society has become a mammonish age. The modern people find their identities and communicate through consumption. "Mass communication structure "a structure which enormous volume of information can be transmitted through- flows out the standardized and intended information through mass media and internet. Moreover the general public culture is also getting standardized. Under that circumstance, not only is the thought of the modern people getting standardized, but also is the behavior getting standardized. The standardization of the thoughts and behavior made the standardized structure, affecting all over the society such as culture, institution, custom and also caused soci l issues like dehumanization, immorality, anti-creativity, depreciation of humanism, human alienation and so on. In this study, a standardization of thoughts and behavior can be defined as what we unconsciously think an act according to the frame by the influence the environment that a gigantic system ,what is called a society, have organized. We can also find out problems related to the modern society's consciousness through philosophies. J.P sartre of "Existentialism" and Adorno of "Frankfurt school" are the representatives who studied the change of human thoughts according to social problems. "Modern Times" of Charles spencer Chaplin and "1984" of George Orwell are the examples that pointed out standardized modern society and problems of human thoughts. I figured out that the root cause of a spiritual destitution in an affluent society, a thirst in surroundings is the standardization of modern people's thoughts, values, and behavior patterns. And I tried to share my idea emotionally by visualization. For my methods of expression, I used symbols that assimilate people to animals and repetitions and through those methods, I showed the standardized pictures of modern people. Looking my works in which animals that should be in a pure nature are in materialism society, We can feel ill-matched actions of the animals. And their repeated actions show modern people's standardized appearances as metaphor. I tried to make those appearances interesting and simple. In contrast to their actions, unconcerned faces of the animals be presented ironically. Their appearances look like clowns of a circus but in some point of view, those may be our self-portraits. By using modeling paste, I tried to present cold feelings of pitiless modern society. And through analysis of the works, I explained specific charters of the animals with regards to modern people, and tried to produce visual pleasure and ironical meaning by applying animals to ill-matched place. This study is to make people reconsider their identity and look back their courses of self-actualization through the procedure of studying the characteristics of the modern world, the modern people and expressing them visually. And I hope that as the role of art, this works quench your thirst from the reality and helps share my idea with you.;현대인들은 매일 반복되는 일상 속에서, 늘 같은 공간과 정해진 길을 따라 움직인다. 똑같은 시간에 늘 같은 곳으로 향하고 옆을 돌아보면 다른 사람들 역시 자본주의 속에서 같은 목적을 향해 같은 방향으로 가고 있다. 그들은 분명히 꿈이 있고 목적이 있을 것이다. 하지만 그것이 진정으로 자아실현을 위한 것인지, 아니면 현대사회 속 정해진 흐름에 따라 흘러가는 것인지 의문을 품기도 한다. 또 자신이 알고 있는 것이 정말 진실일까라는 물음에 자신을 되돌아보기도 한다. 본 연구는 현대사회 속에서 본인의 자아와 정체성에 대해 다시 한 번 고민해보는 과정에서 ‘동시대를 살아가는 현대인이라면 누구나 한번 쯤 자신을 둘러싼 환경에 대해 생각하고 어릴 적 순수함을 되짚어보지 않을까.’라는 의문으로 시작되었다. 본 연구에서는 먼저 현대사회 산업구조, 소비구조, 전달구조의 특징을 연구하고, 이러한 구조에 따른 환경 속에서 현대인들의 관념과 행동이 획일화되어가고 있음을 정의하였다. 본 연구에서 ‘관념과 행동의 획일화’란, ‘사회’라는 커다란 체제가 만들어 놓은 환경에 영향을 받아 무의식적으로 그 틀에 따라 똑같이 생각하고 행동하는 것을 의미한다. 현대 사회의 의식과 관련하여 철학, 문학, 그 밖의 여러 미술작가들의 시각적 예시로 그 문제점을 지적하고 있다. 연구고찰을 통해 현대사회의 풍요 속의 정신적 빈곤, 환경 속의 갈증에는 현대인의 관념, 가치의식, 행동의 획일화가 그 근본적 원인임을 알 수 있었고, 이를 시각적으로 표현하여 정서적 공감을 찾고자 하였다. 표현방법으로 사람을 동물의 특성에 비유한 상징과 반복을 사용하여 현대인의 획일화된 모습을 나타내었다. 순수함을 상징하고 자연 속에만 있어야하는 동물들이 물질세계에 있는 것에서 어울리지 않는 그들의 몸짓을 느낄 수 있다. 또 그들의 반복된 행동은 현대인의 획일화된 모습을 비유적으로 보여준다. 그리고 이를 지루하지 않게 담백한 표현을 하려고 노력하였다. 하지만 그림 속의 무관심적인 표정들은 그들의 행동과 대립되어 반어적인 설명을 하고 있다. 그들의 모습은 마치 서커스의 한 장면 같기도 하지만 다른 시각에서 보는 우리의 모습일지도 모른다. 그리고 질감 및 소재사용에 있어서 모델링 페이스트(modeling paste)를 사용하여 정서가 없는 현대의 메마르고 삭막하며 차가운 느낌을 나타내려 하였다. 또 작품 분석을 통해 현대인과 관련하여 동물의 특성을 중점으로 설명하고, 그들과 어울리지 않는 장소에 대입시킴으로써 조형적 재미를 보여주고 반어법적 의미를 보이고자 하였다. 현대사회의 특징과 현대인의 모습을 연구하고 이를 시각적으로 표현하는 과정은, 본인의 정체성에 대해 다시 한 번 고민해보고 진정한 자아실현의 과정을 되새겨보는 의의를 가진다. 또 예술의 역할에 따라, 보는 사람으로 하여금 정서적 유대감을 형성하게하고 그림을 감상함으로써 현실에서 느끼는 갈증을 해소하게 하는데 목적을 둔다.
