한국 개신교 찬송가에 관한 연구

Abstract

The history of Korean hymn began with Korean Christianity in the early age of Korean missionary work. Nevertheless Korean hymns has gone through the disruption and combination again and again under the disruption and combination in the Christian circle, they have been studied and made up constantly. Hymn plays an important role for Christian people to confess their faith and associate with God. Therefore, the culture and sentiments should be reflected in hymns, and the hymns should need musically high standards. 『21C New Hymn』 was published in 2006 after ten years of hard work. The contents of this thesis are the general history of Korean Christian hymns and changes in 『21C New Hymn』. According to the research, the new book has changed and amended in many ways comparing with 『Tong-il Hymn』. First of all, it has been more classified variously ; increasing the number of the songs and more classified index. Secondly, 'Praise and Worship', one of the main subjects in the index, has been added as many popular songs had been classified into hymns. Additionally, the words and titles of many hymns has been amended to solve the problem with translation and conveys their intended message more effectively. Also, the songs which reflect Korean sentiments and culture have a large share, and that's why the number of songs composed by Korean has increased. With analyzing Newly added Korean composer-songs, they are classified into two groups: Korean-styled song and Western-styled song. The former shows it used Korean traditional rhythms and scale, and the chords used were very colorful. It shows great efforts to make the Korean-styled songs which are not inferior to modern feelings and reflect Korean sentiments. On the other hand, the latter was faithful to counterpoint and theory of harmony and showed its own distinction. It is expected to be continuously developed and esteemated that is base on developing and changing of 『21C New Hymn』.;한국에 기독교가 들어온 지 120년 정도가 지난 오늘날까지 기독교의 발전과 함께 찬송가도 계속해서 발전되어왔다. 찬송가가 사회 · 문화와 기독교인들의 신앙고취에 큰 영향을 미치는 만큼 많은 사람들의 관심 대상이었고 꾸준히 연구 · 편찬되어 왔다. 개신교는 최근까지 1983년에 발행된 『통일 찬송가』를 사용해 오다가 10여년의 노력 끝에 2006년 『21C 새찬송가』를 출간하였다. 본 논문에서는 한국 개신교 찬송가에 대한 배경적 지식을 개괄적으로 알아본 후, 『21C 새찬송가』에 어떠한 변화와 발전이 있는지 조사하고 한국인 자작곡 중 몇 곡을 분석하였다. 『21C 새찬송가』에서는 보다 많은 변화와 발전을 엿볼 수 있었다. 먼저 찬송가 곡수와 교독문의 개수가 늘어나고 제목분류와 색인이 세부적으로 나눠지는 등 세분화 및 다양화 되었고, 대중적인 성격의 성가곡이나 찬양곡이 추가되기도 했으며, 제목/가사/음정 등이 한국 정서에 맞고 이해하기 쉽도록 수정되었다. 무엇보다도 가장 큰 특징은 한국인 자작곡이 6배 정도 늘어났다는 것인데, 그 속에서 한국의 기독교와 음악계의 발전을 엿볼 수 있었다. 한국인 자작곡을 한국적 특징이 두드러진 곡과 서양적 특징이 두드러진 곡으로 분류하여 그 중 몇 곡을 분석해 보았다. 그 결과, 한국적인 특징과 서양적 특징을 모두 수반하여 음악적으로 높은 수준의 현대적 감각을 가진 곡을 만들어내기 위해 노력하였음을 알 수 있었다. 또한, 그동안 한국 찬송가에 대해 낮게 평가되었던 부분들이 보완 · 확충되었음을 알 수 있었다. 본 논문을 통해서 본 『21C 새찬송가』의 이러한 변화 · 발전된 모습을 기반으로 한국 찬송가가 바로 평가받고, 계속해서 발전을 거듭할 수 있을 것이라 기대된다.
