불임여성에 대한 목회상담적 이해

Abstract

본 논문은 불임여성에 대한 목회상담을 여성주의적 시각으로 고찰해 보는 것을 목표로 한다. 한국사회에서 불임은 중대한 사회문제로 대두될 만큼 심각한 수준에 이르렀지만, 한국사회와 교회는 불임에 대한 진지한 고민과 이해 없이 기존의 갖고 있던 종교적 편견, 사회적 관습으로 돌봄의 대상이 되어야 할 불임여성에게 오히려 보이지 않는 폭력을 가하고 있다. 불임여성은 불임을 인지한 후, 신체적·정서적 고통에 빠지게 되고 부부와 가족, 나아가 사회적 관계에서까지 변화를 겪게 된다. 불임은 그 자체로서의 병리적 심각성 보다 불임으로 인해 생기는 2차적 문제-사회적 고립감, 자신의 정체성에 대한 회의 등-로 인해 더 큰 고통을 야기한다. 또한 불임은 영적 위기에 빠지게 하기도 한다. 많은 불임여성들이 하나님의 존재를 의심함으로서 심리적인 또 하나의 지지원천을 잃어버린다. 한국 불임여성의 심리적 고통은 불임당사자가 아닌 사람들이 일반적으로 막연히 생각하는 고통 그 이상이며, 불임여성 혼자서는 감당할 수 없는 차원의 문제이다. 따라서 불임여성의 심리적 고통에 대한 연구와 실질적인 도움이 제공되어야 한다. 이러한 점에서 본 연구자는 불임여성의 심리적 고통을 종교, 사회·문화적 시각에서 접근하여 불임에 대한 통전적 이해를 시도하였다. 1장에서는 본 논문의 목적과 연구방법을 밝히고 2장에서는 여성과 불임이해를 돕기 위해 세 가지 영역-성서적 이해, 한국종교·문화적 이해, 의학적 이해-의 불임이해를 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 한국사회와 교회의 가부장적 문화가 불임여성의 자아상과 삶을 어떻게 왜곡시키고 있는지 파악하고 개선을 촉구하였다. 불임여성은 하나님의 저주의 대상이 아니며 사회적 약자로서 지지와 돌봄의 대상이다. 또한 불임여성은 여성으로서의 의무를 다하지 못한 무가치한 존재가 아니며, 임신여부를 떠나 인격체로서 존중받으며 자신의 삶을 영위해 나갈 수 있도록 배려 받아야 한다. 3장에서는 본 연구자가 2006년 한 해 동안 참여한 불임상담의 사례 205건을 면밀히 분석하였다. 분석결과, 한국인의 의식 속에 만연해 있는 가부장적 사고와 인습으로 인해 불임여성은 가정에서조차 심리적 안정을 누리지 못함이 드러났다. 사회적인 측면에서 볼 때, 불임여성들의 현실에 맞는 실질적인 제도가 시행되어야 하며, 이와 병행해서 불임에 대한 인식 전환이 함께 이루어져야 한다는 결론이 도출되었다. 결론적으로, 4장에서는 심각한 정신적 스트레스에 노출되어 있는 불임여성을 위한 전문상담의 필요성을 확인하였고, 본 연구자는 불임여성의 경험과 가치가 존중되어 질 수 있는 여성주의 목회상담적 접근이 적합하다고 생각하였다. 여성주의적 불임상담의 신학적 자원은 여성에 대해 가해지는 인습을 거부하고, 여성을 ‘아이 낳는 도구’가 아닌 인격체로서 존중한 예수의 언행에서 찾았다. 한국교회는 가부장적 교리의 잣대로 불임여성을 판단하기 보다는 불임여성을 위한 지지공동체로서 불임여성의 아픔을 공유할 수 있는 장이 되어야 한다. 교회를 통해 불임여성들이 힘든 시기를 견디며 아픔을 돌아보고 미래를 향해 나아갈 수 있도록 한국교회는 용기를 북돋워 주어야 할 것이다.;The purpose of this study is to examine pastoral counseling for women with infertility from a perspective of women. Although the issue of infertility in Korea has emerged as serious social issue, it becomes deteriorated as the society and the church community inflict invisible violence to women with infertility without any serious discussions and understanding related to the issue. Women with infertility are suffered by the existing religious prejudices and social customs. After a woman recognizes her infertility, she is subject to suffer not only emotional and physical pains but also changes of all kinds of social relationships including matrimonial and family relationships. Infertility, not just being pathological, follows more pains such as social isolation and identity confusion as so-called the second additional issue. Women with infertility also face with a spiritual crisis for christians. Psychological suffering among the women with infertility in Korea is more than pain itself, and cannot be dealt with individually. Therefore, substantial studies on psychological pains and practical assistance and support toward the issue of women with infertility should be needed. The purpose and methods of this study are presented in the chapter one. To provide understandings on women and infertility, the perspectives of the three areas in the Bible, religious and cultual aspects in Korean society, and medicine are presented in the chapter two. In this, this study supports that infertility is not a punishment from God and women with infertility as underdog are a subject of support and care in the society and church community. In the chapter three, analysis of 205 cases of pastoral counseling for women with infertility in the year 2006 are presented. The findings show that women with infertility cannot live in comfort even with their family due to traditional patriarchal thinking and customs prevailing in the society. Practical as well as protective measures for women with infertility should be carefully planned and implemented from a social perspective, and understanding and thinking changes toward the issue on women with infertility should be needed to resolve the problem. In the chapter four as conclusion, the results show the necessity of professional counseling for women with infertility who are suffering from serious depression and psychological stress. Based on the aforementioned findings, the author of this study recommends pastoral counseling or consultation to women with infertility from a woman’s perspective. And pastoral counselor take advantage of spiritual resource such as Jesus Christ’ biblical story. Women with infertility may take advantage through the process gaining confidence and self-respect. Meantime, the church community in Korea should be a venue for sharing pain and suffering of women with infertility as support community abandoning its patriarchal doctrine, and encouraging them with support. The church community in Korea should also be a place for providing the courage for women with infertility who look back on their hard time and head toward the future.
