Abstract
This paper is to illuminate the influence of yarn ingredient, fabric sturucture by the condition of pile, soiling method and kinds of soiling particles on the soiling degree of carpet. Twelve testing patches were prepared, using three kinds of yarn; Wool, Acrylics, Nylon yarn; and choosing four kinds of weaving methods; loop-pile fabric, 1 cm cut pile fabric, 2 cm cut pile fabric, 4 cm cut pile fabric. In soiling experiments, the methods used are: 1) Service Method, in which Wearing Test is used 2) Abrasing Method, in which clay soil and greasy soil are used 3) Tumbling Method, in which chopped fiber siol is used 4) Steeping Method, in which acqueous perspiration-soil is used. The results of the experiments are expressed by the soiling degree that can be calculated through the following formula, using the surface reflection rate of original fabric and that of soiled fabric as variables. Soiling Degree(%) = (Ro - Rs)/(Ro) × 100 Ro : Surface reflection rate of original fabric Rs : Surface reflection rate of soiled fabric The following conclusions are made from this research. 1. The orders of soiling degrees were shown as: Nylon>Acrylics>Wool in Wearing Test, No order in Abrasing Method, Nylon, Acrylics>Wool in Tumbling Method, Wool> Nylon, Acrylics in Steeping Method. 2. The order of soiling degrees by fabric woven states was shown as loop-pile fabric>1 cm cut pile fabric>2 cm cut pile fabric>4 cm cut pile fabric in soiling experiments by Wearing Test, Abrasing Method, and Tumbling Method with the exception of Steeping Method which has shown no difference in soiling, degrees. 3. The order of soiling degree by the methods of the experiments was shown as Steeping Method>Abrasing Method>Tumbling Method>Wearing Test. 4. Though there is no mutual comparability between the two soiling elements of Abrasing Method and those two of the Steeping Method, soiling particles of the hydrophobic yarn have shown a greater soiling degrees than those of the hydrophilic yarn in two chopped fiber soils of Tumbling Method.
