Cadence의 역사적 고찰

Abstract

Cadence refers to melodic or harmonic formula of repose that happens at the end of phrase and it is one method of musical expression that creats momentary or eternal impression of conclusion. Generally speaking, books on music theory treat a few standard cadence formula of tonal music without refering to concrete source of cadence. Therefore the writer has made a research on this particular area and this research has been made to trace out the root of cadence comprehensively, covering from the period before the tonal music prevailed to 20th century. The writer, therefore, has tried to identify in this research much used cadence formula, the source of musical style from which the cadence formula started and inter-relationship between cadence of each period. In this research, the writer has made a comprehensive study by comparison of various facts of cadence in each period and in addition to this, he has made this study by referring to the musical examples. Upon concluding this research, The writer was able to identify that the concept of cadence changes having a direct connection with changes of harmony and tonality.;종지(Cadence)란 藥句(phrase)의 끝에서 생기는 선율적이거나 화성적인 쉽의 형태로 순간적이거나 최종적인 結論의 인상을 가져다 주는 음악적 표현의 한 방법이다. 일반적으로 음악이론 서적에는 조성음악의 몇 가지 표준적인 종지형태(cadence formula)만 취급될 뿐 구체적으로 종지의 내용적인 근원에 대해서는 언급이 되어 있지 않았다. 이 점을 착안하여 필자는 본 연구를 시작했으며 조성음악은 물론 그 이전 시대와 20세기까지도 포함시켜 포괄적으로 종지에 대한 연구를 하였다. 따라서 본 論文의 연구 목적은 시대별로 어떤 종지형태가 많이 쓰였으며, 어떠한 음악양식(musical style)에서 이런 종지형태가 비롯되었는지, 그리고 각 시대별로 종지간의 상호관계는 어떠한지 알고자 하는데 있다. 일차적으로 문헌에 나타난 시대별 종지에 관한 사실들을 발췌하여 비교·종합하고 덧붙여 악보의 실례를 참고하여 연구한 결과, 종지 개념이 화성(harmony)과 조성(tonality)의 변화에 직접적으로 관계하여 변화한다는 사실을 확인 할 수 있었다.
