服飾에 表現된 美意識에 관한 硏究

Abstract

春香傳에 나타난 服飾表現을 通하여 朝鮮後期의 美意識을 考察해 보았다. 服飾表現에는 당시인들의 意識構造가 포함되어 있으므로, 作品속에서 묘사된 服飾의 形態, 織物, 色彩를 살펴 봄으로서 당시 사람들의 意志를 파악할 수 있었다. 春香은 丹脣皓齒에 細柳같은 날씬한 姿態의 「고운」여인으로 표현되어 있으며 知性을 갖추고 분수를 지킬줄 아는 「맵시」있는 여인으로 나타나 있다. 게다가 여유있는 태도와 파격적인 행위가 조화를 이룰 때 「態」가 나는 理想的인 女人으로 그려져 있다. 이와 같이 「고움」「맵시」「태」는 외국어로 번역될 수 없는 고유의 美的感情을 표현한 용어들이었으며, 단순한 아름다움 외에 知性美, 여유있는 태도, 破格的인 행위등이 더 요구되는 美的槪念이다. 그 시대 사람들은 의복의 형태에서 여유있고 풍성함을 유연한 曲線美로 강조하여 단아한 맵시를 추구하였으며, 色彩는 밝고 담백하며 정갈한 분위기를 자아내는 깊은 색을, 직물에 있어서는 얇고 하늘거리는 부드러운 감으로 그들의 美意識을 나타냈다. 곡선의 아름다움이나 색채의 옅고 깊은맛 직물의 부드럽고 비쳐 보이는 상태는 繪畵의 여백과 마찬가지로 생각할 여지를 남기고, 들여다 보면 무엇인가 더 있을 것 같은 가능성과, 상상을 자아내는 「여유」와 「융통성」을 함축하고 있다. 이러한 성격들은 모두 당시 사람들의 美的감정을 충족시켜 주었던 요소들이었음을 알 수 있었다. 따라서 당시 사람들은 일상생활과 일반조형예술에서 여유와 융통성을 추구함으로서, 한없는 가능성과 思考를 유발하는 「想念의 美」를 실현시키며 정신적 만족을 얻었던 것이다. 이 상상을 자아내는 「想念의 美」는 당시대 美議識의 바탕이 되었던 精神美이며 더 나아가 우리 고유의 美的感情이라 하겠다.;The theme of this thesis is to explore the aesthetic consciousness of the late CHOSUN period through the materials and colors of costumes and the costumes themselves which were described in the legend of CHOONHYANGJEON(춘향전). CHOONHYANG (춘향) who had skin as fair as snow, lips as red as ruby and teeth as white as pearls glistening in the sun light, is thought of as a GOUN (고운) beauty having a graceful willowy movement. She is considered as a stylish MEPSI (맵시) lady who is intelligent and self confident. Futhermore, she is pictured as an ideal beauty who had a TAE (태) when her composed attitude was in harmony with her irregular behavier. These "GOUN" "MEPSI" "TAE" are an expression which represent a basic esthetic feelings and cannot be translated into a foreign language. These aesthetic consciousness required some feelings beyond the pure beauty. The people who had been in that period emphasised their affluence by the shape of their costumes through flowing lines. They pursued elegant MEPSI (맵시). They sought the depth in colors which evoked endless contemplation by the light and simple colors. In the case of materials, they showed their aesthetic consciousness through thin, soft, silky and exquisite fabrics. They expressed their beauty feelings by using the words "GOUN(고운)" "MEPSI(맵시)" "TAE(태)" as their aesthetic consciousness through the ideal Beauty CHOONHYANG (춘향). All these characteristics which had something in common with the unfilled space in Korean paintings leave ample space to think about it and suggest a capability-reserve and adaptability which encourage contemplation. These were the factors which satisfied their desire for a feeling of the esthetic. Therefore, they acheived the ideal beauty which evoked capability and endless speculation, when they search for the reserve and adaptability in their everyday life and in art. Therefore, they had a feeling of well being. The "beauty of contemplation" which induce imagination was the spiritual beauty and is an original notion of ethnic esthetic consciousness.
