생성운율론에 의한 Shakespeare희곡의 운율 분석

Abstract

운율음운론의 목적은 시와 산문의 구별 및 시행의 복잡도를 판단하는 기준, 곧 운율능력(metrical competence)을 제공하는 것이다. 본 논문은 운율조직이 언어학의 체계적인 방법에 의하여 훌륭하게 설명될 수 있음을 보이는데 목적이 있다. 특히 시행의 통사구조(syntactic structure)를 고려하면서, M. Liberman(1975)의 새로운 강세이론-강세를 강약으로 양분하고 종적인 나무구조(tree structure)에 의한 강세의 상대적 파악에 의한 운율이론이, 종래의 운율이론이 갖지 못했던 설명력을 가짐을 제시하게 된다. 한편 특정한 시인의 운율체계는 운율전통과 함께 시인의 운율변경(metrical variation)을 포괄하여 체계화되어야 한다. 시인은 각자의 독특한 작시법을 가지고 있기 때문이다. 그리하여 한 시인의 시행의 운율성을 판단하는 운율이론은, 언어학의 체계적인 방법에 의하고, 시인의 고유한 운율변경을 포괄하는 운율규칙으로 체계화 될 때 가장 정확한 운율능력이 된다. 본 논문에서는 Shakespeare희곡의 운율을 분석하는 준거로서 위해 제시된 형태의 운율이론이 설정되며, 이 운율이론이 Shakespeare희곡의 운율을 정확하게 판단하는 것을 보인다. 그리고 Shakespeare의 약강5보격(iambic pentameter)의 운율사용이 그의 초기 극작에서 말기에 이를수록 엄격성이 완화되는 경향으로 특징지으며, 이때 그의 언어변화의 반영이 크게 나타나지 않는 것으로 결론짓는다.;The purpose of metrical phonology is to distinguish verse from prose and to characterize of metrical complexity of lines, that is, to give us metrical competence. The purpose of this paper is to show that metrical organization is well explained by depending on the systematic way of Linguistics. I will suggest that metrical theory which adopts M. Liberman (1975)'s stress representation, analyses the syntactic structure of the verse has the greatest explanatory power. On the other hand, the metrical system of a given poet has to be systematized including his metrical vaviation as well as metrical tradition. Because he has his own characteristic versification. Thus metrical theory will be the correct metrical competence when it rests on the systematic way of Linguistics and combines the poet's metrical variation to metrical rule. In this paper I establish above type of metrical theory for the metre of Shakespeare's plays, then show its correctness. And Shakespeare's iambic pentameter is characterized as losing strictness of it from his early plays till the last plays. At this time it can be also concluded that the reflection of linguistic change in Shakespeare's plays is not appeared remarkable.
