境界와 音韻規則

Abstract

본 논문에서는 境界설정의 타당성 및 境界와 음운규칙과의 관계를 살피었다. 이를 위하여 Chcmsky and Halle(1968), Kisseberth and Kenstowics(1977) 그리고 Stanley(1973) 등을 개괄하였고 국어와 영어를 자료로 境界와 관계가 있는 음운현상들을 다루었다. 영어에서는 Chomslty and Halle(1968)에 다루어진 境界의 문제들을 살펴보았으며, 다양한 강세패턴은 境界現象을 살피는데 좋은 자료들을 제공하였다. 국어에서 음운적으로 유사한 환경에서 된소리 현상이 ++의 자립형태소 境界가 있을때 규칙성있게 일어남을 보이고자 하였다. 국어의 변이형은 두경우를 다를 수 있었다. 즉, 하나는 말의 빠르기가 달라지는 경우이고 다른 하나는 # -제거와 음운규칙 사이의 순서를 달리하는 경우이다. 앞으로의 형태론의 연구와 言語能力과 言語運用의 관계에 대한 이론의 발전은 再調整部의 좀 더 명확한 제시와 境界문제해결에 많은 도움을 주리라 본다.;The purpose of this study is to present a justification of boundary assignment and its relation to phonological rules. There has been several studies on the boundary phenomena including Chomsky and Halle(1968), Kisseberth and Kenstowics(1977) and Stanley(1973). The Stress Rule in English is very sensitive to the boundaries. In Korean, tensing phenomena and several other variants can be explained with boundary. The tensing phenomena occur when there is ++ boundary which seems to be lexically motivated. Phonological variations of Korean are treated in two cases : one is the different rate of speech, and the other is the different ordering between the #-deletion and the Nasal Drop Rule. Further studies on morphology which has been little studied and understood in generative grammar, and on the relation between linguistic competence and performance will be of help to establishing less ad hoc readjustment component and solving the boundary problems.
