The wedding ceremony has been esteemed to such a high extent that it is often regarded as the most important event of one's life. It is thought that the princes' wedding pagent and customs in the palace of Yi-dynasty will be conducive for the studying of costumes and customs of those days. This thesis deals with the prince's wedding pagent and costume as described in "Ka-rye-do-gam-eui-kue" with emphasis on Queen Heon-kyong's wedding to Prince Jang-jo, Although the procedures of ceremony stages employed in royal wedding differed from those of common people, it is worth studying as it will represent the typical aspects of rituals, 1. Nap-chei (納采 : the proposal) The stage can be divided into two procedures; the palace authority sent an emissary to the house of bride who is chosen already in order to propose marriage formally and then the bride's family accepted the proposal. Through the procedure of proposal, king wore Myon-bok (冕服 : royal vestment), royal family, officials over the 4th class and the emissaries Jo-bok (朝服 : full court dress), and the officials under 5th class Heuk=dal-ryong (黑團領 : black robe with round neckline) In the procedure of acceptance, the emissaries, host and guests wore Kong-bok (公服 : official robe). 2. Nap-jing (納徵 : the engagement gift) Nap-jing is the stage in which the palace authority sent an engagement gift as a symbol of the coming wedding and the bride's family received the symbol. All the costumes worn in Nap-jing stage were the same as those in Nap-chai stage except that Won-ryu-gwan (遠遊冠 : crown) and Kang-sa-po (降紗袍 : red robe) were worn by king. 3. Go-gi (告期 : announcement of the wedding date) Go-gi consists of the two procedures in which the royal family sellected and announced the wedding date and the bride's family received the announcement. The costumes in this stage were the same as those in the previous stage. 4. Chaik-bin (冊嬪 : approval of the future queen) Chaik-bin is the stage in which the palace sent emissary to the bride's house to dub the bride as a future aueen and then the brides family received the approval. Through the above stage, the costumes of king, royal family, civil and military officials and emissary were the same as those in Nap-jing stage, but the host and guests wore Jo-bok and the bride Myong-bok(命服). 5. Chin-young (親迎 : the wedding) Chin-young stage consists of Ym-heon-cho-kei-eui (臨軒醮戒儀), Chin-young-eui (親迎儀), Dong-roi-yeon-eui (同牢宴儀) and Bin-jo-hyeol-rye-eui (嬪朝見禮儀) as follows : o Ym-heon-cho-kei-eui : This is the ceremony in which the prince payed his respects to the king before going to the bride's house. In this ceremony, king and prince wore Myon-bok, royal family as well as civil and military officials over the 4th class Jo-bok, and the official under 5th class Heuk-dal-ryung. The civil servants in prince's court wore Jo-bok and the military servants Yung-bok(我服 : military uniform). o Chin-young-eui : This is the ceremony in which the prince met the bride in her house and escort her to the palace.
