dc.description.abstractFrom the primitive age to the present day, many kinds of ear-rings and other personal ornaments have been used to satisfy human wants for personal refinement which may be the most fundamental instinct of human being. Ear-rings which originated_ in Europe, had been brought to China where European culture influenced greatly. We can easily see the Buddha wearing ear-rings which show us how widely ear-rings were popular. In our country, ear-rings were widely favored in Three Kingdoms Period after the establishment of the Four Han Provinces which were directly controlled by China. Koguryo, mostly influenced by Nangnang (one of the Four Han Provinces) had their ear-rings of "delicate link type" and "thick link type" using "triangle plumb type" ring as a penchant through which we can find out the sticky and simple feature similar to their local characteristics. The ear-rings, changed into real Korean. type during the Koguryo period, were transmitted to Paskche, but we can hardly observe them because of its few remains. However, we can find graceful "celicate link type" ear-rings with the heart type" pendant nicely worked. These were transmitted to Silla period. In the Silla period, the development of ear-rings was at the summit after various changes during Koguryo and Paekche periods. As to "delicate link type" ear-rings, they had various changes in their middle decoration while "thick link type" ones became bigger than ever before. Most of them had "heart type" middle decorations. Ear-rings which were brought to Japan from Kaya couldn't have any development due to the 'Lack of materials and workmanship. After the Three kingdoms period, the use of ear-rings was suddenly reduced and I should like to have a chance to study why this occurred.-
