李箱小說의 空間性 硏究

Abstract

The purpose of this thesis is, through analysing spatiality, to make a new and systematic understanding on Lee Sang's novels, which stand on the turning point in Korean modern literary history. In this thesis, I investigate the spatiality in Lee Sang's novels in the following two respects : (1) analysing the spatiality in respect of content to make clear the meaning structure of Lee Sang's novels, (2) analysing the narrative techniques of spatialization which create a new narrative style different from the traditional one depending on temporal sequence. These analyses are made in chapter Ⅱ and Ⅲ respectively, and the results are as follows. In chapter Ⅱ, observing that Lee Sang's novels are developed through repetition of two notions of 'sleep' and 'walk', I investigate the meaning structure and the space structure derived from the change of these actions. The meaning structure of Lee Sang's novels can be summarized as an noting system of 'sleep - walk - fly up/fall down', which shows that the escape from the reality is attempted on the premise of vortical spatiality. And also, it is inferred that the reality of loss of self-reliance is closely connected with the spatial circumstance of absence of 'light' and 'house', and that the heroes keep on trying to fly up to the world of 'light' from the reality of darkness and confinement. Chapter Ⅲ studies on the narrative techniques of spatialization in Lee Sang's novels in the following respects : literal or physical spatiality of texts, spatiality of structure, and the techniques of spatialization of time. While the traditional narrative shows the linear and chronological structure based on time sequence, these techniques of spatialization, reflecting the spatialized inner time of heroes, make a function to deconstruct the linear chronology and to reconstruct events into spatial constructs, so as to evoke the illusion of spatial entity. These techniques, as a new attempt to surmount limitation of the traditional narrative style based upon chronological ordering of events, produce the effect of totality and simultaneity. Through the above analyses, the modernity of Lee Sang's novels are reconfirmed in that they construct, in respect of content, the inner world of heroes into a spatial system and show, in respect of form, the spatialized narrative structure reflecting the flow of their consciousness.;李 箱은 내용적으로나 기법적으로나 우리의 현대문학사에서 하나의 혁명적 분기점을 이루고 있는 작가이다. 본 연구는 이러한 李箱의 소설세계를 공간성 분석을 통해 새롭게 이해하고 그 기법적 특성을 재조명해 보고자 하는 시도에서 비롯되었다. 본 공간성의 분석은 두 가지 면에서 이루어졌다. 첫 째는, 李箱小設의 전체 의미구조를 밝힐 수 있는 내용적인 면에서의 공간성 분석이며, 둘째는, 시간적 繼超性에 의한 서사구조를 지양하고 새로운 서술양식을 창출하고 있는 형식적인 면에서의 공간성 분석이다. 이의 구체적 분석은 각각 Ⅱ장과 Ⅲ장에서 이루어졌으며, 그 분석내용은 다음과 같다. Ⅱ장에서는, 李箱小設이 '자다' '걷다'의 두 행위의 반복을 통해 전개되고 있음에 주시하여 이 행위변화에 따른 의미구조 및 공간구조를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 李箱小說의 전체 의미구조는 '자다-걷다-날다/떨어지다 '의 행위체계로 요약될 수 있으며, 이는 현실공간에서의 탈출시도가 수직적 공간성을 전제로 이루어지고 있음을 나타내고 있다. 또한 주체적 자아의 상실이라는 주인공의 현실은 '집'과 '빛'의 부재라는 공간적 상황으로 이해될 수 있으며, 이들은 이러한 어둠과 구속의 현실공간에서 벗어나 빛의 세계로 나아가려는 부단한 지향의지를 보여주고 있음도 밝혀졌다. Ⅲ장에서는 하나의 서술기법으로 작용하고 있는 공간성의 검증을 위해 李箱小說에 나타난 공간화 기법을 크게 記述의 공간성, 구조의 공간성, 시간의 공간화 기법으로 구분해서 살펴보았다. 이러한 공간화 기법을 종래의 서술이 시간적 계기성에 입각해서 線的, 연대기적으로 진행되던 것과는 달리 공간화된 內的 시간을 반영함으로써 작품을 입체화, 다면화된 공간적 구성체로 만들고 있다. 이는 사건의 연대기적 나열이라는 기존의 서술방식상의 한계점을 극복하여 의미의 총체성과 동시성을 꾀하고자 하는 새로운 시도인 것이다. 이상의 분석을 토대로 할 때, 李箱小說은 내용적인 면에서 주인공의 내면세계를 하나의 공간체계로 형상화 하고 있을 뿐 아니라 형식적인 면에서 그의 의식의 흐름을 그대로 반영하는 공간화된 서술구조를 보여주고 있다는 점에서 그 현대성을 재확인 할 수 있다.
