車凡錫 戱曲硏究

Abstract

By examining closely the general characteristics of his plays, this thesis finds the meaning in estimating a Korean orthodox realist, Cha Bum-Suk's position in drams's literary history. The following is the summary of how this thesis is developed. In chapter Ⅱ, the process of how realism is transplanted and grafted to the Korean plays is examined, as realism can be an important clue in studying Cha Bum-Suk's works. Then, how he perceived realism under these Korean circumstances is examined in relation to a theatre company, "Sanha". In chapter Ⅲ, as the thesis develops into the main part, Cha Bum-suk's works which ale grouped in six trends according to the subject-matter of his works are studied. First, after examining the following works which show a trend of indictment on social absurdity, namely, Without the Pain of Braking a Shell, A Flock of Sea-gulls, The Occupation of Professor Wang, it can be seen that based on negative view about the politics, society, and men of modern times, he brings indictment and criticism or absurdity. Second, the works that show a trend concerning the challenge and frustration against the convention are examined, mainly the following works, The Barren Land, The house with Blue Roof, A tropical Fish, The Substitute. In these works, by sharply drawing a picture of the conflict between the old and new generations resulting from the differences in traditional relics, convention, and values, no reflect the confused values of fifties and sixties in his works. Third, after studying the works that show a trend in love and passion, Fantasy, The Castle of Roses, The Imaginary City, it is seen that he criticizes modern man's selfish and immoral view of love and emphasized the candle-light-like ideal image of woman. Fourth, mainly in the work, Mountain Fire which shows a trend concerning the problem of humanism in the civil war, he describes in realism the terrible scene of Korean war and suffering people as the result of the war. Fifth, in the work, Bird, Bird, Blue Bird, a historical play, which shows the writer's approach toward the modern history, his attitude as a writer and his historic consciousness toward the trubulent modern history is examined. In the last part of this chapter, variety of Cha Bum-Suk's works is examined through other trends such as the works belonging to localism, or derived from folklore, works following the experience of existential character, or concerning the problem of human alienation and loss of humanism. In chapter Ⅳ, the nature of Cha Bum-Suk's idea which can be derived based on the previous examination of his works is devided into critical consciousness of reality, consciousness of traditional value, view on women, and historic consciousness. It is illustrated that he worked as a writer with distinct writer's consciousness. As a conclusion of the above discussion, it can be said that by being interested in all aspects of society, and carrying out faithfully writer's function as a critic of reality through realistic technique, Cha Bum-Suk contributed greatly to the development of Korean modern drama, and he occupies an important position in the history of Korean drama not only in quantity but also in quality of his works. But it can be also evaluated that in spite of these achievements Cha Sum-Suk's drama, at the same itme, contains a limitation that tis plays still cannot escape completely from the outline of modern realism.;本 論文은 우리나라 정통리일리스트 車凡錫의 戱曲에 대한 전반적 특질을 규명해 봄으로써 그의 戱曲文學史的 位置를 가늠해보는데 그 意義를 두고 있다. 論議의 전개에 대해 槪括해 보면 다음과 같다. Ⅱ章에서는 車凡錫의 作品世界를 규명해 가는데 있어서 중요한 하나의 端緖가 될 수 있는 寫實主義가 韓國演劇에 移植·接木되는 과정을 살펴보고, 그러한 한국적 상황에서 車凡錫이 認識한 寫實主義는 어떠한 것이었는지에 대해 劇團＜山河＞와의 관련하에 살펴보았다. Ⅲ章에서는 本論으로 들어가서 車凡錫의 작품을 題材에 따라 여섯가지 傾向으로 分類하여 그의 作品世界를 살펴보았다. 첫째, 人間不在의 不條理한 社會를 그린 傾向의 作品으로, 「껍질이 째지는 아픔없이는」,「갈매기떼」,「王敎授의 職業」을 중심으로 살펴본 결과 현대의 정치, 사회, 인간에 대해 부정적인 입장에서 不條理性을 告發·批判하고 있음을 볼 수 있었다 둘째, 前近代와 近代의 乘離에서 오는 因習에 對한 挑戰과 挫折을 다룬 傾向의 작품으로, 「不毛地」,「靑기와집」,「熱帶魚」,「代理人」을 중심으로 살펴본 결과 전통적 유물과 인습, 가치관의 차이에서 오는 신·구세대간의 갈등을 첨예하게 그림으로써 5, 60년대의 혼란된 가치관을 작품속에 반영하고 있음을 보았다. 세째, 車凡錫의 作品중 일관되게 계속되어온 寫貿主義가 점차 軟化되어 心理的, 觀念的인 현상을 보이는, 사랑과 愛慾의 葛藤을 그린 傾向의 작품으로, 「幻想旅行」,「薔薇의 城」,「空想都市」를 중심으로 살펴본 결과 현대인의 이기적이고, 비윤리적인 애정관을 매도하고 있으며 이상적인 여성상을 부각시키고 있음을 보았다. 네째, 同族戰爭속에서의 휴머니즘의 문제를 다룬 경향의 작품으로 「山불」을 중심으로하여 6.25의 참상과 그로인해 피해받는 민중들의 삶을 리얼하게 묘사하고 있음을 보았다. 다섯째, 역사에 대한 作家的 接近을 시도함으로씨 近代史를 照應해 보이고있는 작품으로, 격동의 近代史를 다룬 歷史劇중 「새야새야 파랑새야」를 중심으로 역사에 접근해 가는 작가적 태도와 접근방법에 대해 살펴보았다. 마지막으로는 기타에 해당되는, 로컬리즘계열의 작품, 說話에서 素材를 취한것, 實存人物의 體驗談을 추적한것, 人間疏外와 人間性 喪失의 문제를 다룬 작품들을 槪括하여 살펴본 결과, 車凡錫 作品世界의 多樣性을 알 수 있었다. Ⅳ章에서는 위에서 살펴본 작품세계를 토대로 하여 추출할 수 있었던 車凡錫의 戱曲史的 位相을 알아보기 위하여, 우리의 특수한 新劇史的 배경과 결부시켜 살펴보고, 그가 커다란 영향을 받은 것으로 보이는 柳致眞과의 작품비교를 통하여 車凡錫의 戱曲史的 位相을 밝혀보았다. 이상의 論議를 통해 볼때 車凡錫은 뚜렷한 작가의식을 가지고 寫實主義的 技法을 통하여 現實批判者로서의 작가적 기능을 성실히 수행함으로써 우리의 新劇 발전에 지대한 공헌을 하였으며, 그의 작품은 質과 量的인 면에 있어서도 韓國戱曲史에서 중요한 자리를 占하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그러나 이러한 공적에도 불구하고 車凡錫의 戱曲은 아직도 近代的 寫實主義의 테두리에서 완전히 벗어나지 못한 한계점을 동시에 지니고 있는 것으로 평가할 수 있다.
